Poop Question/distended Belly

Hi there! I'm sorry... I have to ask this question...

I keep hearing about this "typical celiac poop"...what is a "typical celiac poop like?" I think my daughter might have celiac or a gluten intolerance. We have been back and forth, on and off the Gluten and I'm starting to see patterns in her bowel movements as far as consistency and color. Any insight will be greatly appreciated...thanks!! : )

Also, can anyone share their experiences with belly distention. I swear I think my toddlers belly distends shortly after eating something with gluten. Is it possible to happen that fast? Thanks!

I can't answer the question about the belly distention but I can tell you my experiences with my son's poo. His could not be deemed as "typical" since it varied so much. He's had all colors: white, tan, green, bright grassy green, dark brown, and black. The consistency has also varied: mucousy, soft and grainy, formed, and small pellets. One thing that was constant was that is smelled really bad and it was usually several times daily. I believe the "typical" is the light/tan soft and grainy. His variation was also caused by his low thyroid and iron deficiency...both of which are likely to have been caused by the celiac. Low thyroid has a tendency to constipate (thus the hard pellets). The bright green is likely from iron deficiency.

To sum everything up...you can't look at the poo alone because there could be secondary factors (such as allergies, deficiencies, and thyroid issues) that can effect it.

Agreed. Dairy is just as bad as gluten for me.

Many probiotics start with growing the bacteria on a dairy substrate leaving traces of dairy in the probiotics.   Many Celiacs react to dairy in the same way as they react to gluten because certain protein chains in dairy resemble gluten protein chains.   @Wheatwacked ferments his own pickles.  Perhaps he can chime in.

The AIP diet does have a vegetarian version.   Dr. Sarah Ballantyne developed the AIP diet for herself and her children, all Celiacs.  The AIP diet has been shown in scientific studies to promote intestinal healing.  You might visit her website.  https://www.thepaleomom.com/
