Hi all ;) hope this finds you well ;)

I've been reading the forum for the past few days --- I need help!!!

I've been to my doctor and asked him to help me figure out whats wrong. They tested for celiac/gluten and i'm negative.

I still manage to get sick after eating foods, simple foods even, a plain bagel just sits in my stomach for hoursssss .. I feel bloated,

indigestion, heartburn and just feeling of ick - then after a few hours, it feels like i've gotten ran over by a truck!

I've experienced GERD and indigestion for 1/2 of my life, I'm 42. I can recall being in my 20's and the doctors saying, "here take this pill everyday", well

that everyday is almost 20 years later. I've been on and off PPI's for 1/2 my life and I'm sick of them. I've taken myself off my PPI last week, been 6 days now.

I have been on Nexium for almost 4 years and it's time! I'm taking digestive enzymes and probiotics religiously now for these 6 days. I've also been taking

DGL with my meals, Apple cider vinegar too! I've tried it all, been on it all.. I'm FRUSTRATED!!

My gastro, cardiologist and PCP don't find anything wrong. Only thing Gastro found was GERD and hiatal hernia about 10 years aog.

I truly feel that they are wrong about the celiac ... What else can I do?? Where do I turn?

Find another doctor - one that will listen, most don't listen. They think it's in my mind -- the pain is sometimes soooo bad

that I feel like i'm having a panic attack or heart attack. I have gotten myself so worked up at times from the pain.

Even on an empty stomach ... something is always churning inside.

I'm thinking of just sticking to a gluten free diet on my own and see how I feel.

Welcome!

Since you haven't gotten any satisfaction from your doctors, why not consider the gluten free diet.

You can give it a go for several weeks and see how you feel. It's not an overnight fix and it will take some dedication and time, but you may find your answer.

I was on prilosec for YEARS and no longer have that need.

If you would like some guidance, we are here to help.

I say try gluten free. My blood test was negative as was my 9 yr old. I wanted to do gluten-free with him so he wasn't going it alone and to see if I could feel better. I feel so much better. I don't sleep all day any more and was able to stop anti-depressants. I had horrible foot and joint pain that nothing would help. My Dr. told me I should see a mental healthcare specialist for my anxiety. I don't have anxiety anymore. I take B complex, fish oil, D and E. I am so thankful for my sons Dr. for telling us about celiac. Ask as many questions as you need to on here, someone will be able to help you find answers.

You may not have celiac disease with the villi /intestinal damage but you could easily be gluten sensitive to wheat/gluten & even dairy. I also suggest avoiding these foods strictly for at least three months & see how you feel. After that time if you see no change then do as you please but my experience is you will feel mcuh better & wish to continue being gluten-free. But don't cheat or your elmination progress will not be true.

As far as my thinking goes I feel only cows with more then 1 stomach can digest wheat!!!

I also never heard of anyone dying from lack of wheat.......no matter what mainstream doctors tell you.....

Oh no, cows should eat grass, not wheat. Birds should eat wheat.

Yes, do stick to the diet for a while. If that doesn't help, you can do an elimination diet with food challenges to see if there are more or a broader category of foods that are bothering you. I wish someone had had me do an elimination diet earlier in the whole process. Annoying to do, but the clearest results you can get.

I agree. If the doc aren't helping then why not try it and find out for yourself? There is also the problem that some people just don't show positive celiac results for whatever reason. And some people have gluten sensitivity which is no fun either. The tests for celiac are not 100% accurate, and are known to give false results sometimes.

It may take a while for you to get used to the diet. Gluten can hide in lots of places you would never expect. A good way to start is to go with a whole foods diet, nothing processed and keep on that for a couple months. Uo also need to verify everything else is gluten free, including vitamins, medicines, drinks etc... A good test is to eliminate things you aren't sure of and try adding them in again after a few weeks.

Plenty of us have problems with soy and dairy also, so eliminating those would be good as well. You can always add them back in after month or so and see how your body reacts. Remember many chips are fried in soy oil also. Salad dressings are also a soy and gluten hiding place.

Oklahoma/Texas neurologists have only offered me the “eat gluten free” advice and then when I ask about the hands or muscle twitching they said they just don’t know. While celiac disease is primarily known for gastrointestinal issues, it’s important to recognize that it can also manifest in non-GI ways, including neurological symptoms. Research has shown that celiac disease can sometimes be linked to conditions like gluten ataxia, peripheral neuropathy, or even myoclonus (involuntary muscle twitching), which might explain what you’re experiencing. The fact that your symptoms have fluctuated with dietary changes suggests a possible connection, even if it’s not yet fully understood by your local neurologists. It might be worth seeking out a specialist who has experience with celiac-related neurological issues or consulting with a celiac-focused research center. In the meantime, staying strict with your gluten-free diet is a good step, as even small amounts of gluten can trigger immune responses that may contribute to these symptoms. You’re not alone in this—many with celiac report similar struggles, and connecting with online communities or support groups could provide additional insights and reassurance. The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.

      I was initially diagnosed with celiac in June 2024. I had no G.I. issues but got chest and pelvic pain. I changed my diet – although I was not great at watching cross-contamination – and had no problems until the end of October 2024 when I started getting headaches. At the end of December 2024 the headaches ended but I started having twitching throughout my body. Not long-term twitching just a fast burst twitch. In addition, I had tremors start in both of my hands. Sometimes it is stronger in one hand than the other and sometimes it seems to die off and then comes back. This has gone on for two months and the twitching has gradually lessened although sometimes it comes back with a vengeance. I have been really strict about  my diet and cross contamination so I feel these symptoms are related to my celiac disease although I’m not certain and I’m unsure that the strict diet is what has helped. I’ve been tested for everything -  MS, lupus, ALS and a variety of other things which were all negative. I can only relate these symptoms to my celiac but no neurologist in my area seems to know anything about celiac causing anything other than gastric issues. I’m so frustrated and just looking for others that have had similar symptoms and doctors that are more knowledgeable about celiac and neuro issues. Thank you!
