Doctor Sent Results

Hello again, My PCP sent a copy of my blood test results. Trying to figure it out, but as best as I can tell they didn't test the IGG. Can they test for the gene by a blood test or is that another test? Sorry for so many questions but I'm just trying to figure everything out. I don't have a scanner at home, so here is what it says:

TEST NAME IN RANGE OUT OF RANGE REFERENCE RANGE

CELIAC DISEASE PANEL

TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE

ANTIBODY, IGA <3

Value Exaplanation of Test Results

<5 Negative

5-8 Equivocal

>8 Positive

IMMUNOGLOBULIN A 253 81-463 mg/dL

GLIADIN ANTIBODY (IGA) <3 U/ml

VALUE EXPLANATION OF TEST RESULTS

<11 NEGATIVE

11-17 EQUIVOCAL

>17 POSITIVE

From there it goes on to Comprehensive Metablolic which all seem to be fine. So am I right that they didn't do the IGG? Thanks :)

There are many on here better suited to answer your questions, but until they come along, I can tell you they didn't test you for your IGG because you are not IGA deficient. If you're not IGA deficient (your total is at 253)and your IGA comes back negative, then they won't do the IGG test, as it is less specific and will assist in diagnosis when someone if IGA deficient. My gene test was done by taking a cell from inside my cheek.

Thank you for the response. That makes sense, I wasn't sure what all of the numbers meant. Like I said I'm trying to figure everything out. I hate having to wait to see a doctor for answers....and it's so hard to know whether being gluten free is making a difference yet. I think it is, but it's only been a week. Part of me feels like I am feeling better because I want to find a solution, but my stomach really does feel better.

I don't know what your symptoms are, but I highly recommend good probiotics and digestive enzymes to help you along. They did wonders for me. I take Jarrow probiotics (80 million) and Digest Gold. However, my GI recommended the cheap acidolphilis from Trader Joes (it's like $3) and that's what I used years ago when first going gluten-free and that worked very well. I would recommend triple dosing on probiotics for a week or so to help you get rid of any bad bacteria that may have taken over your stomach due to your digestive issues.

If all this doesn't work, consider giving dairy a boot for a while as well to see if that helps.

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
