I'll try to, but I'm not good at behaving myself. Long history of not doing so.

P.S. We had pizza tonight.

I think Kathryn Hepburn said "If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun."

But I'm bad at quotes.

And I think the only reason I thought of that is that it's on the box of the gluten-free pizza I like.

Yes! and on the opposite side of the box is one of my favorite all-time quotes :) :

"When the gods want to punish us, they answer our prayers."--Oscar Wilde

and I always add: I prayed for patience. I got Celiac.

The 10 y/o cooked tonight. We have green beans and new potatoes, raw broccoli and cauliflower salad, and strawberries with grapes and blueberries.

I prayed for patience. Now I babysit my 14 month old cousin. <_< I love my kids more than life, but honestly other than the two of them I don't really like kids.

Adalaide, you are delightfully honest.

How are those arepas?

Made some hashed browns and bacon, breakfast for dinner seemed like an easy and fun way to jump into cooking for myself.

Lobstah! From BAH-Stun! ;) good stuff! I've got a great online friend from there and we go back and forth about our different accents all the time.

I asked my oldest sister (I'm the youngest of five) if she appreciated the fact that I took ALL of the bad genes in my gene pool She has a masters in Nursing. She laughed, then said she was sorry. I have very good eyesite out of it, though, I'm still 20/20 at 52 years old. The eye doc said I have a perfect genetic line up. Glad something worked.

My second sister feels the same way about kids that aren't her's or her grandkids. btw Adalaide. She say's they're not even cute! (I didn't have any kids but I can usually find sonething cute about a little kid.)

We had ground sirloin with chopped portabella mushrooms and some cheese, grilled. He had potato chips, I had sweet potato. I made a salad of arugula and hearts or romaine with nothing else but dressing. (He wouldn't notice anyway, or would think it was icky.)

Glad you like ATG Pizza Irish.

I do, I do, hon!

(and the CHEBE makes a good pizza crust, too. Thanks again for that suggestion! )

It's a good quickie dinner with a salad when I "take the day off" from cooking(Friday night) and hubs is gone golfing all afternoon.

It was good ole Maine Lobstah as I'm a Mainer, but a transplant. Kids are natives though!

Tonight will be breakfast for dinner. Blueberry pancakes and bacon. Need to ask my daughter what she wants the next two nights before she goes away for 5 weeks to a summer ballet program.

Is there any other kind? :)

P.S. (I know there are, but they don't count)

I'm a lobstah snob.

Our lamb shoulder will be reincarnated as a meat pie with a gluten free pastry crust.

I think kids are perfectly adorable. When they're not my responsibility and stay a safe enough distance from me that I'm not expected to interact with them. Frankly though the whole rows and rows in front of me of toddlers eating pretzels and touching EVERYTHING at church kind of freaks me out. I won't touch anything there for fear that some kid put their pretzel residue all over it.

Tonight I'm working, tomorrow night too. So, I am leaving my husband in charge of having ribs ready for me when I get home and I'll just throw some spinach and dressing next to it and call it supper. Lets all cross our fingers and hope I get something edible!

Had a pretty bad chemical reaction today while out so simple scrambled eggs, bacon and fried potatoes.

:( sorry, hon--hope you feel better soon.

We had grilled chicken.

I marinated it in pomegranate vinaigrette.

Some grilled asparagus and cole slaw with pineapple chunks and cranberries on the side.

Watching my bikini figure.

Feeling better today, thanks.

Quartered a chicken and it's in the oven, some Parmesan 'nests' and probably asparagus and sliced tomatoes.

I'm having a pitcher of strawberry daquiris. Since I just went dairy free, I can't find anything to eat except a head of lettuce

Call it celebrating summer and have an extra daiquiri!

I think I'm just going to have a spinach salad, I had meat for lunch since I'll be working tonight and have a really late supper.

I know you are just joking, but you can eat very well dairy and gluten free. Jules Shepherd makes a living out of it. I did it for 10 months.

But as a long as you're pouring, c'mon girl, hand me a daiquiri. :)

Sorry to say, not joking, there's one glass full left in the pitcher, it's all yours :D Udi's has this monocalcium phosphate, is that a kind of dairy thing, if it's not I'll go for Udi's and skippy. Thanks for the link, already bookmarked it.

And I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow so I'll be good to go :D

Sweetie, if something has dairy it it, it has to be labeled: CONTAINS MILK. That's the beauty and blessing of food labeling laws.

Okay, now--you can't find yourself left with just a pitcher of yummy drinks and a head of lettuce. Time to get some supplies. Did you read the NEWBIE 101 thread I put together? I humbly submit, it may just help you get started.

Last I knew, you felt lousy after the crouton "incident"....you need some nourishment!! :)

Thanks IH, granted, I need to do better in the eating dept. I sometimes think that because I'm not absorbing so much, why eat? Now I'm off, hanging my head, heading back to the NEWBIE link. Maybe ill remember some of it this time around.

That's what printers are for. Print that puppy off.

Make a shopping list. EAT!

No head hanging necessary, kiddo.

You are absorbing SOMETHING from the minute you go gluten-free.

And as much as I like daiquiris, too....BOOZE is not the best idea

in a gut that is still raw. You need nourishment, kiddo.

EAT!! Said with all the love in the world. :)

I am lovin' my new indoor grill. I made steak kabobs with a Ribeye that was on sale. It took 3 minutes for MR, 5 for Medium. DP usually gets GERD from steak, so I've avoided it for quite awhile. You know that funny thing about absence makin' the heart grow fonder? Those kabobs were the best

Did your symptoms improve after going on a gluten-free diet?
    • Scott Adams
Thank you for sharing your genetic test results and background. Your results indicate you carry one half of the DQ2 heterodimer (DQA1*05), which is associated with a very low celiac disease risk (0.05%). While most celiac patients have either DQ2 or DQ8, these genes are also present in people without celiac disease, so the test alone doesn’t confirm a diagnosis. Since you’ve been gluten-free for 10 years, traditional diagnostic methods (like endoscopy or blood tests) would not be reliable now. If an official diagnosis is important to you, consider discussing a gluten challenge with your doctor, where you reintroduce gluten for a period before testing. Alternatively, you could focus on symptom management and dietary adherence, as your gluten-free diet seems to be helping. Consulting a gastroenterologist or celiac specialist could provide further clarity.  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

@cvz Thank you for sharing your daughter’s story. It sounds like she is managing multiple complex conditions with great care and diligence. It’s encouraging to hear that she is compliant with her gluten-free diet and that her Addison’s disease symptoms are under control. The addition of electrolytes seems like a thoughtful suggestion, especially given her fluid intake. It’s also reassuring that she hasn’t shown noticeable symptoms from accidental gluten exposure, though it’s understandable how challenging it can be to monitor for such incidents. The unexplained high lipase levels are intriguing—perhaps further investigation or consultation with a specialist could provide more clarity. Wishing you both continued strength and success in managing her health. Please keep us updated on her progress!

Hello I received this in a genetic lab test I requested from my provider.    The patient is positive for DQA1*05, one half of the DQ2 heterodimer. The celiac disease risk from the HLA DQA/DQB genotype is approximately 1:1842 (0.05%). This is less than the 1% risk in the general population. Allele interpretation for all loci based on IMGT/HLA database version 3.55 HLA Lab CLIA ID Number 34D0954530 Greater than 95% of celiac patients are positive for either DQ2 or DQ8 (Sollid and Thorsby, (1993) Gastroenterology 105:910-922). However these antigens may also be present in patients who do not have Celiac disease.   Some background, I have been eating gluten free for about 10 years now. I have never had an official celiac diagnosis due to endoscopy and labs tested after I had already been eating gluten free for over 1 year. I was constantly sick and told you slowly remove foods and see what effects my symptoms. I have also come to realize that I have other symptoms of celiacs and recently requested the genetic testing shown above.    I am looking to see if anyone has other recommendations for testing or just to clarify the results for me as I feel the official diagnosis could be helpful but I am not positive that it is even true for me.

My daughter, age 48, has Down syndrome, hypothyroidism, Addison's disease, and Celiac disease, which was diagnosed based on blood tests last July.  After a small intestine biopsy last fall, we were told that she has severe celiac disease.  She is taking both levothyroxine and leothyronine for her hypothyroidism and both hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone for Addison's disease.  She also takes Folic acid, magnesium, vitamin B-12, DHEA (DAGA), and a multivitamin.  In July, she started on a gluten-free diet and is very compliant.  She has had constipation and diarrhea issues all her life and now controls the constipation with Miralax, prunes, and apricots.  Shel has only very occasional syncopes or vasovagal events and muscle aches in her upper back and neck.  She drinks 4-6 or more 12 oz bottles or of liquid per day.  Her doctor has just suggested adding electrolytes to one of those bottles daily.   We are sorry to learn about the issues you are having and would like to stay in touch.  We do not know anyone else with both Addison's disease and celiac disease.  So far, she has no recognizable symptoms.  We are doing our best to keep her gluten-free, but have no way of knowing if she has had an exposure to it unless we catch it ourselves.  For example, a few weeks ago, a restaurant mistakenly breaded her fish, and I did not notice it until she had eaten most of it.  She had no identifiable symptoms of the exposure then or days later. By the way, the reason she was screened for Celiac disease was that her blood lipase levels were unexplainably high.  They still are.  We have no idea why.
