found turkey necks and wings at the market this morning so a huge pot of turkey soup -- doesn't feel much like soup whether -- but it is my Mom's favorite so I'll pack some up for her lunch tomorrow

 oh and still have a very long honey-do list for this weekend so a peach upside down cake

 continues my campaign of bribes

Clever girl. Bribery works. ;) I'm bribing mine too, Right now, he's cleaning out the basement as I have just made his fav

Giant Oatmeal Granola Cookies. They are a powerhouse of goodness.  I should really post that recipe on here. I pilfered liberally from various recipes out there and changed a few things in it, so I figure it makes it mine. Sort of.

Last night, we had Split Pea and Ham soup ( but I cannot take the credit for it. My friend Sherry Lynn made it at her gluten-free cafe and bakery and it was Deeeee-lishus! as my dear old Dad used to say.

Tonight, I'm thinking chicken surprise (cuz I'll be surprised if I work up the enthusiasm to cook it)

Back at the gym this week and resuming my efforts to get my muscles in better shape.

I had to refrain from being a tad irked when I hear these young thin chickies at the gym declare "oh, I went gluten-free during the last week to try it and I lost weight and I feel great!"  <_<  good for you.

Someday, I figure I'll say "I went gluten-free during the last decade and I feel great"

I found this hysterical.  My husband may think I'm crazy because I'm always off in my corner laughing.

I managed today to roll myself out of bed, get dressed and ready and get dinner in a crock pot all before 1 so I can take off to the doctor. I even managed to apply a blow dryer to my head so I don't look like a mangy animal when I leave the house.

Dinner tonight will just be some carrots and onions and celery I threw in the crock pot with a pork roast. Apparently I found out my best friend got tickets to a concert for her birthday next week which is a surprise and she doesn't know  yet, but I'll have to work for her on Thursday. So I'll take a little of that roast and veggies and some of my mac & cheese and freeze them so I don't have to figure out a work lunch at the last minute. I hate figuring out work lunches, and hate taking salads when it isn't summer.

 those little girls always piss me off -- but I :D and carry on -- here is a hint -- watch out for Lisa with a big-assed smile -- it means something devious is in the works!

Normal :) -- that is generally me and "usually" sincere.

One of my kids had a "vegetarian" over last weekend -- I have nothing about vegies or folks that choose to eat only vegies -- but understand what you are trying to accomplish -- this little b%$@#y one bugs the $#!t out of me on a regular basis - so I make meat that smells mouthwatering on purpose and watch all the other teens at the table make "I'm in heaven sounds" while she eats the lovely colorful salad I always provide - oh ya --- I am evil

Darn tootin' you will and it will not take a decade -- but sure does feel like it some days

Tonight I'm throwing a meatloaf in the oven just to be simple.

I went to the grocery store for the first time in over a year today and didn't have a panic attack!!! :)

Tonight I am going to try to go with my husband to take my daughter to dance, fingers crossed...it's a bit further and haven't been there in over 2 years.

I've been known to get the quizzical look when I guffaw out loud. Karen's one-liners on emails, for example often prompt those.

By the time I explain it,  he's not interested anymore.  I think our humor on here is more of a "you had to be there" kinda thing.

SkiLIsa and I share a common issue of histamine intolerance.

Strawberries are a main culprit as are tomatoes and they can "bug my insides" too.

Maybe that's all it is? Hope so! I know you enjoy your venison (poor Bambi. :(

Thank you so much Irish!

I did it! Plus I will be doing it again tomorrow since both girls have dance and hubby won't be home. Then it will be home to cook all the food for my neighbor's first birthday party and encores from tonight for dinner.

LFitts Apprentice

Haven't been on in a while -- accidental glutening (evil creamed corn!) & return of horrible dh rash have had me feeling pretty like a bad parent. Hopefully we are on the rebound. Tonight was chicken parmesan with just a little dab of sauce. Crusted the chicken with Glutino garlic & parmesan bagel chip crumbs -- each box has a huge amount of crumbs in the bottom and they make a good 'crust'. It was delish!

GottaSki Mentor

Welcome Back to you and I think I forgot to welcome my Nascar Pal back!!!  Glad to see you both :)

LFitts -- don't be too hard on yourself -- I think we have all come up lacking a bit when gluten jumps in our path.  Dinner sounded yummy - glad you are feeling better.

Life got in the way of the upside down peach cake today -- so men will have left over choco-mint buttercream frosting on vanilla ice cream -- I'll get the cake in the oven tomorrow -- dessert 5 days straight should get things done around here :P

I simply cannot express how happy I am for you, hon!! I know what it means to take back your life and feel better..

Hooray for healing! Big hugs to you.

It's Friday, so chances are pizza is in store for the hubs after his golf outing. I may have encores of last night's "chicken surprise" which

turned out to be chicken satay with thai peanut sauce and rice noodles.( And Addy, that really surprised me as I had no idea until 5:30 pm what the Sam Hill I was doing with those breasts)

In the early days of this recovery, there was no such thing as culinary spontaneity any more (and that killed me)  but I could not think straight enough (or stand up long enough)  to be so bold. Plus, I could only eat about 5 foods at the time.

Man, it's so good to get so many things back. Even if it's not perfect, life is good.  :)

Have a great weekend, peeps!

hmmm...I've lost my little cheeleader -- will go look for her and edit her it -- this is fantastic news Alex!

Here she is -- and I realized when I went looking for her by searching this thread for "cheerleader" -- I originally borrowed her from Irish -- so technically this is Irish

Well, I guess it is fitting for that to be Irish. Probably playing with her bike streamers. It is good to see more people around here, liven the place up a bit on our down days. :D

I have no idea what I am cooking today, I am up earlier than normal because in my brilliance last night I forgot to take my flonase and I woke up stuffy, sore throat and coughing. Tis the season. <_<

So, I know I was just here, but I found this cause someone posted it on facebook. I was thinking this looked good for supper. I may have paraphrased some of the directions, and I also clearly remember that a "box" of macaroni comes in either 8 or 16 ounces and have figured out that works out to 2 or 4 cups of my pasta uncooked. Not sure what size box they want but I can work with this and see what happens. Worst case scenario I have to cook more and waste 15 minutes. I'm having a hard time though convincing my husband that since the recipe said Beef Macaroni, it is clearly not a casserole. Otherwise it would have been called Beef Macaroni Casserole of course.

1 box elbow macaroni
1 big can pureed tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
1 small can tomato paste
4 cups low fat cheese (2 cheddar/2 mozz, but w/e)
1 pound meat
spices to taste

Brown meat
Boil pasta
Heat sauces and paste with spices
Mix everything but cheese
Mix half cheese, stir well

put in large pan
sprinkle rest of cheese
bake 375 for 30-40

I hope i'm not catching a cold. My nose is stuffed, i go from hot to cold, my ears feel icky, and my head hurts some.

Probably going to make a soup if i get the energy.

GottaSki Mentor

I've got soup for you both -- it was great and I ate it WITH rice pasta in it -- usually I pull mine outta the pot before I add the pasta group -- and usually I use corn based pasta for soups as it holds up better -- but gotta say it was really great having a serving with pasta -- and had no reactions what so ever -- now just have to take my own advice and not overdo the rice -- man that is tough.

Anyway - dropped some off for Mom this morning and will be dropping some off for Dad around noon PST -- head on over for a bowl ;)

notme Experienced

hope you all feel better soon!!!  i am making ham & potato soup for sunday's youth luncheon at church, so i will save you some out :)

i have no idea what's for dinner - i am in Jersey Girl Heaven stuffing my face with a taylor ham, egg & cheese (WITH S,P,K!!)  - it's on scharr bread, (authentically, it should be on a hard roll) and sliced myself up some orange slices.  going out to shoot pool tonight, so dinner will probably be redbridge hahaha - and i know what everybody thinks of redbridge but here's my favorite part of redbridge beer:  I CAN *GET* IT!  :D  my actual favorite tastiest beer of all time i will never get to drink again:  'knoxville blonde'  brewed in (guess where) a microbrewery.......

oh, and i forgot to say:  last week i actually went to:

1.  the mall

2.  out to eat

3. a. a show

    b. at a bar

all on the same night and i didn't feel like i was hit by a bus the next day.  this just keeps getting better and better.  six months ago i would have been not only exhausted and maybe skip the rest of the evening, but probably laid up in the bed the next day.  (except for strawberries.  i am sworn off them!  i have to notice if the smuckers seedless strawberry jam gives me trouble...)

anyhoo:  W00T!  :)

Hmm, sounds just like my Mom's "goulash" recipe. Plain, no cheese though...

I've questioned things similar to this with my kids. One of them doesn't like mint at all, no kind of mint, not mint teas, not mint chocolate brownies, nothing minty. I asked her if she was maybe switched at birth. The response of course was "mooooooooooooom!!!!" The other one who found out she is lactose intolerant thought she would die until she discovered cheese doesn't make her lay in bed feeling like she is actually dying. We're a family of cheese-aholics.

There’s a Cosco in Auckland in New Zealand. It’s a bit away from where I live but it’s worth the travel for me. Very appreciative of your advice.

It seems you have proven that you cannot eat gluten.  You've done what your doctors have not been able to do in 40 years. That's your low vitamin D, a common symptom with Celiac Disease.  Zinc is also a common defiency.  Its an antiviral.  that's why zinc gluconate lozenges work against airborne viruses.  Vitamin D and the Immune System+ Toe cramps, I find 250 mg of Thiamine helps.   When I started GFD I counted 19 symptoms going back to childhood that improved with Gluten Free Diet and vitamin D. I still take 10,000 IU a day to maintain 80 ng/ml and get it tested 4 times a year. Highest was 93 ng/ml and that was at end of summer.  Any excess is stored in fat or excreted through bile.   The western diet is deficient in many nutrients including choline and iodine.  Thats why processed foods are fortified.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of vitamins and minerals from the small intestine damage.  GFD stops the damage, but you will still have symptoms of deficiency until you get your vitamins repleted to normal.  Try to reduce your omega 6:3 ratio.  The Standard American Diet is 14:1 or greater.  Healthy is 3:1.  Wheat flour is 22:1.  Potatoes are 3:1 while sweet potatoes are 14:1.  So those sweet potatos that everyone says is better than Russet: they are increasing your inflammation levels.

My mother also has celiac disease, and one of her symptoms for many years before her diagnosis was TMJ. I believe it took her many years on a gluten-free diet before this issue went away.
    • Jeff Platt
Ear pain and ringing your entire life may or may not be TMJ related but could be something else. A good TMJ exam would be helpful to rule that out as a potential cause from a dentist who treats that. I have teens as well as adults of all ages who suffer from TMJ issues so it’s not a certain age when it shows up.
    • cristiana
Not sure if related to coeliac disease but my ear ringing  has stepped up a notch since diagnosis.  Even since a child silence really hurts my ears - there is always a really loud noise if there is no other noise in a quiet room - but my brain has learned to filter it out.  Since diagnosis in my forties I also get a metallic ringing in my ears, sometimes just one, sometimes both.  But it comes and goes.   My sister also suffers now, we are both in our fifties, but she is not a coeliac, so for all I know it could just be an age thing.  I do get occasional stabbing pain in my ears but that has been all my life, and I do appear to be vulnerable to outer ear infections too.  So not a particularly helpful reply here, but I suppose what I am trying to say is it might be related but then again it could just be one of those things.   I think in the UK where I live doctors like you to report if you get tinnitus in just the one ear.  I reported mine but no cause was found.  Most of the time it is nothing but sometimes it can have a cause that can be treated, so perhaps worth reporting to your GP.
