Worked on the pool deck...re-sunk screws...replaced nasty "temporary" (five years ago) balustrades and started re-staining.  Hubs made another stellar SeaBass and Vegie dinner for me.

Loved this so thought I'd share:

Well, on reflection, maybe it wasn't so smart to try thai green curry on the same day I started a whole30 elimination diet. Tum not fantastically happy, but no other symptoms. Oh well, at least I don't feel like this all the time anymore.

Dinner was chicken stir fry, carrots, zucchini, bell peppers and a sauce made of anchovies and coconut milk, with some roasted sweet potatoes which collapsed into the sauce.

Catching up here..okay, I .LOVE lemons, LOVE sea bass, LOVE coconut anything, LOVE waffles, and if you want a giant salt water pool, I will be living near an ocean soon. Come. Visit. Me.

Ski, the cover story on the Conservationist Mag hubs gets every month--wild mushrooms. I swear, Shroomie keeps sending us signs.

Sunday night the power was off for hours (another storm) and it was BBQ chicken and cole slaw and a rousing game of trivial pursuit by candelight.

Monday night was Thai chicken and peanut satay. (peanuts, okay!!. more foods to add back to the "yeah baby" list whoohoo!)

Tonight will be an herbed meatloaf, roasted baby red potatoes and sauteed garlicky chard

notme Experienced

tonight, i think i made the best freaking lasagna i have ever made.  gluten or not.  tink noodles, make your sauce thin (or add a little water to jar sauce but i make my own 'gravy' lolz) layer your ingredients (except for the cheese for the top), cover TIGHTLY and no peeking for 50 minutes.  after that, uncover and add cheese, another 10 minutes uncovered on the TOP RACK LOLZ  ^_^ and the 'im-pasta' was divine....

last round of friends/family coming tomorrow:  youngest daughter, my bff, (LONG LIVE THE OXFORD COMMA!!!) and her daughter.   i am putting sheets on beds constantly; i feel like a wench at the tavern!   i need a wench-maid....  and maybe a cabana boy ;)

Adalaide Mentor

I could stand to have the sheets on my beds changed wench.

Yesterday I was incredibly stupid. I goofed off in the morning just long enough to be out in the sun when I went out to weed. It didn't end well. <_< It also did not get me off the hook from needing to pick up my peppers, cantaloupe and watermelon from the garden store. I at least had the sense to make my husband more or less to most of the work getting those in dirt last night which happened after sunset, before dark.

We did steak and corn on the cob for dinner. I can't believe it is that time of year already! Corn corn corn corn corn! I had a little pasta with a ricotta sauce with my dinner. My husband thinks that ricotta is gritty so I only made enough for one.

Tonight is pork loin, more corn on the cob and potato salad. I'm not sure how well the mayo will go over with me, but it is full on summer here and I am not ready to spend it tater/pasta salad free until I have it bite me in the butt.

And I discovered noosa yogurt today. It is bogo so I was like meh, I can finally justify $2.50 for a container of it. My husband keeps asking why I want to try it and what can be so special about it. Um... OMG! Everything is so special about it! Is foodgasm a word? I think I'm in love.

IrishHeart Veteran

 Is foodgasm a word?

If it ain't,  it is now.  ;) Love it.

I forced myself to go to the mall (ARGH! I hate shopping) to buy a  (GASP!) dress for a wedding Saturday in Massachusetts.. I am not a frilly girlie girl and I LOATHE pantyhose(who invented those blasted gawd-awful things?? (ARGH!) and to get over my distaste for shopping, I ate lunch at a place (ironically) called Wheatfield's. and because they take gluten-free seriously, (never got sick there ever) I had a fantastic pasta dish which will also be dinner because the dress  is all curvy and hugs tightly on the right places and I do not want to gain 5 lbs. before Saturday and I am very excited as this is my first family reunion /fancy affair with cousins I adore  (and they have not seen me since my Dad died and I got sick in 2008).

That was a bad-ass run-on sentence, eh? :D

anyway...They've been cheering for me and now, I get to go party with them, whooohoo!!

I am a girly girl. Like, super girly girl. I still agree that pantyhose are one of the most gawd-awful creations ever to grace the earth. I would not feel a shred of sympathy if the person who invented them was strangled with a pair by some deranged woman mad as hell about them.

Sounds like you have an absolutely splendid Saturday coming up. I'm sure it made the trip to the mall worth it. (I could spend a whole day at the mall!) And of course as we all know, when in doubt of all else, the champagne is gluten free! :D

IrishHeart Veteran

I should clarify... I'm not a "frilly" girly girl.  I'm like Katherine Hepburn. I feel I can wear pants and big earrings and still be sexy.

I don't like to shop for clothes, but I can browse in other kinds of shops happily. Sur La Table? Williams Sonoma? oh yeah baby.

I know there will be more than champagne for me, or so I hear. My cousin has 10 guests coming who are gluten-free and the same caterer did not kill any of the 5 women who also went to the shower, so I am anticipating that fiilet  mignon will be safe for moi. I will have a stash of food with me and some gluten-free cupcakes for those of us who can't have the wedding cake. If I get hit,  so be it. I have not been to a wedding since 1999 and I had to miss my Goddaughter's back in 2010 because I was too sick...and by God in heaven,  I'm not missing anything else. ;)  I like to dance....

Adalaide Mentor

Oh, I totally get the not a frilly girly girl thing. I thought for a long time I could be one of those. I'm just... not, or rather I am... or, well you get it. I like dresses and bows and lace and (gasp!) corsets. At this point I am counting pounds until I can reasonably justify spending the several hundred dollars on one. I have never in my life been so comfortable as I have been in a corset. If that isn't a frilly girly girl I don't know what is! When I left my ex I filled a box the size a dishwasher or oven comes in with shoes, nearly all were high heels, and I had to fill another smaller box with the shoes that didn't fit. Yes, I did wear them all... frequently.

I'm sure your family will take good care of you. I just couldn't help myself, I'm in a mood. ;)

IrishHeart Veteran

oh great, now I have a vision of you in a corset and heels...petting a giraffe...having a foodgasm.

The hubs just asked if we could have

BLT's in roll ups (I use tortillas wraps) for dinner

because we had a long day out and I deserve to relax..because I also had my blood drawn for my checkup at the GI doc next week ....(yes, I am sitting on a recliner outside in the sunshine

and he has brought me a drink) .and I said "You bet and who loves you madly??"

Guys, he waited patiently that whole time I was looking and getting a "make up demo" at Macy's. (okay, now maybe that's frilly girlie? but honestly, I do not wear much makeup and I thought maybe I should get some)

and yes, the lady told me she checked the lip gloss for gluten on the database for Clinique. She knew what celiac was.  :)

And he let me buy him a Sean John tie that has pink in it with a pink shirt for his suit. And he did not say "I am not wearing that" but instead. he said"Thanks babe, that looks great!".

Men. They can often surprise us in very good ways. .Gawd, I'm babbling and using too many emoticons....because I must be in a mood too.

Adalaide Mentor

My husband wouldn't wear a pink shirt if it would stop the apocalypse. I have tried all sorts of bribery to get him in a pink shirt, and it just is not going to happen. Which is tragic because he would look incredible in a deep, bright pink. You are so incredibly lucky! I am lucky though that mine will wait for interminably long times while I drag him to the mall clothes shopping. We're talking hours of looking, trying on and store hopping.

Dinner. Was. Amazing. Whoever thought up the idea of selling pork loins you can cook in the bag you buy them in is brilliant and I could just kiss them right now. I'm not sure if my potato salad was awesome, or simply it was "forbidden fruit" awesome. But I enjoyed it just the same. ^_^

Good to see you back in with the dinner peeps!

I've got one of those ocean dealios here too....liking my little pool very much as I jump in about 5 times a day to cool off quick -- plus it is surrounded by market umbrellas -- cuz some wacko here can't tolerate the sun  :P

I was building and painting a bit more and taking care of family s$#& and talking to an old boss so I am toast -- hubs in the kitchen making something for which I am eternally grateful

edited to add....where I meant to start before I toddled off to check something -- Shroomie is all powerful -- here or up there -- no doubt her messages are popping up all over this here rock we all occupy!

Have to go traipsing around to find shoes today, while more people come gawk at my house and land (ugh--I hate this stranger parade !)

and then go to The Gym (cuz my hip is better and I need to get all flexible again so I can dance at the wedding ) so dinner

tonight will be

Encore meatloaf sandwiches and tossed salad and probably some fruit salad of some sort.

What can I say? I can't be in the kitchen creating things...I'm a busy girl lately.... and it feels good. :)

Hmmm.

So, I made dinner, and got it out of the pan. Using the spoon I just used to serve the kids wheat pasta. It's in the trash.

Dinner is whatever Mr Mindwarp kindly prepares while I get over my strop. Maybe.

(I also have views about the quality of driving where I live).

Now, this is a perfect example of the beauty of the English language,

(but first...a hug for your boo-boo and your ensuing "strop")

Darling girl, please tell the dinner peeps what "getting over your strop" means. (I know, but they may not)

It's a fabulous word!!

Hopefully, you have dodged the bullet. And for the love of mike, have them eat corn pasta. It's delicious!!!!.

If you can't find it, I promise you, I will ship you some. I mean it. Stop doing "double duty" with wheat crap

for God's sake woman, I just drooled copiously on my laptop....oh my, that sounds fabulous.

rhubarb crisp....waaaa, i want that!!!  :D

No one says "oozing and unctuous" and gets away with it...except you. love it! xx

Adalaide Mentor

Ok, so I'm a little messed up to want to do this and I'm sure someone needs to slap me but I can't help myself. I was at the store yesterday and they had fresh blueberry vanilla goat cheese on sale for an incredible price. So I bought it, having no clue what the heck to do with it. Now I am thinking it would make a killer grilled cheese. I don't know anything about goat cheese or fancy goat cheese, but in my head it sounds brilliant!

If my plan fails horribly, I will have leftover pork loin with mashed taters and... something veggie like for dinner. I am not eating the remaining half of my potato salad. Apparently it doesn't want to be friends with me. Jerk. And I'll just dig out some crackers for the remainder of my cheese so I can keep myself from doing more crazy things.

I do not understand the rhubarb thing. My Grammy told me the last time I visited home that maybe it was just a childhood aversion and to try a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. I did not grow into rhubarb apparently. I guess that leaves more for everyone else.

Strop = bad mood, hissy fit, throwing a wobbly, sulking like a big girl, throwing my toys out of the pram. What do you guys call that?

Mr M told me what you guys might mean, and it's nothing like that. Even if was, I wouldn't have the energy for that after the day I have had...

Mr M made chicken, butternut squash, zucchini, mushroom. I think he must have seen what went in the trash.

I am in a marginally better mood now, and attempting to pack into a small car everything we used to have in a large van for a camping trip.

See y'all after the weekend, have a good one.

Throwing a wobbly ...why that's just A fantastic expression, MW

In New England, we call it "having a s$#& fit" or "throwing a nutty", "popping a cork or popping a gasket"...or

just plain "I'm friggan pissed"..(not to be confused with pissed as in drunk, but pissed as in really super mad)

....although I did hear this new one today on Gdude...she said....."I wanna throat punch someone".,Yikes!

now, that is angry.  LOL

and "strop" does not mean THAT over here,...but I do love Mr. MW's humor  and now, we all have a new rod we can use.  haha

HAVE A FABULOUS WEEKEND, SWEETS!! XX

I'd chunk it over field greens, sprinkle with candied nuts and maybe some vinaigrette.

Eat it with pears.

I'd also make a  mini "cheesecake" muffin with it (sub gluten-free flour, obviously).

I'd eat it by the tablespoon  or on a cracker

or try this compote

Way ahead of you. I headed to the store for a salad, grabbed an asian pear and settled in with those and some walnuts. (not candied but life can't be perfect) Drizzled it with the SMALLEST reasonable amount of balsamic vinaigrette and a little extra olive oil. I seriously think vinegar hates me but not putting any on would have been a crime.

I still have half my pear left, and seriously if I don't sneak up there and eat the whole log of cheese in one sitting I will slip those pears into a grilled cheese with it. It would be like heaven.

Hello! I want to share my situation. I had symptoms like some food intolerance, diarrhea, bloating, belching one year ago. I thought I could have celiac disease so I did the blood tests. The results were ambiguous for me so I saw the doctor and he said I needed to do tests to check whether I had any parasites as well. It turned out I had giardiasis. After treating it my symptoms didn't disappear immediately. And I decided to start a gluten free diet despite my doctor said I didn't have it. After some time symptoms disappeared but that time it wasn't unclear whether I'd had them because of eliminating gluten or that parasite. The symptoms for both are very similar. Giardiasis also damages the small intestine. The only way to check this was to start eating bread again as I thought. Now about my results.   These are my first test results (almost a year ago) when I had symptoms: The Tissue Transglutaminase IgA antibody - 0.5 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests 0.0 - 3.0 is normal) The Tissue Transglutaminase IgG antibody - 6.6 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests 0.0 - 3.0 is normal) Immunoglobulin A - 1.91 g/l (for the lab I did the tests 0.7 to 4 g/l is normal) IgA Endomysial antibody (EMA) - < 1:10 titer (for the lab I did the tests < 1:10 titer is normal) IgG Endomysial antibody (EMA) - < 1:10 titer (for the lab I did the tests < 1:10 titer is normal) Deamidated gliadin peptide IgA - 0.3 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests 0.0 - 6.0 is normal) Deamidated gliadin peptide IgG - 46.1 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests 0.0 - 6.0 is normal)   Then I didn't eat gluten for six months. Symptoms disappeared. And I started a gluten challenge. Before the challenge I did some tests. My results: The Tissue Transglutaminase IgG antibody - 0.5 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal)) Deamidated gliadin peptide IgG - 28 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal)   During the challenge I ate 6 slices of wheat bread. After the challenge my results are: The Tissue Transglutaminase IgA antibody - 2.0 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal) The Tissue Transglutaminase IgG antibody - 2.0 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal) Immunoglobulin A - 1.31 g/l (for the lab I did the tests 0.7 to 4 g/l is normal) Deamidated gliadin peptide IgA - 2.0 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal) Deamidated gliadin peptide IgG - 2.13 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal)   To be sure I continued consuming gluten. I ate a lot each day. Two months after I did the tests again. My results I got today are: The Tissue Transglutaminase IgA antibody - 0.7 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal) Immunoglobulin A - 1.62 g/l (for the lab I did the tests 0.7 to 4 g/l is normal) Deamidated gliadin peptide IgG - 25.6 U/ml (for the lab I did the tests < 20 U/ml is normal)   Nowadays I didn't have any symptoms except tiredness but I think it's just work. I think it was this parasite because two years ago, for example, and before I didn't have these symptoms and I always ate gluten food. But I'm still not sure especially because the Deamidated gliadin peptide IgG results are sometimes high. What do you think? @Scott Adams

I'm not IgA deficient as you can see so I don't need to do this Deamidated gliadin peptide IgG test. But I do because it's sometimes not in the normal range. What do you think this time? I think I don't have celiac disease. But this test...

@plumbago, I found a good PDF on cholesterol:  Unlocking the mysteries of VLDL: exploring its production, intracellular trafficking, and metabolism as therapeutic targets I just started it, but it may have answers for us, with whacky cholesterol.  The pharmaceuticals don't seem to be interested in anything but statins.   "The nicotine in tobacco causes a decrease in the HDL cholesterol level. " Maybe you should start smoking? 🤪 I have high LDL and low HDL.  It is genetic mutations in the LDLR, APOB, PCSK9, or LDLRAP1 genes. My whole family is on statins for Familial Hyperliperdemia except me.  December I had ultrasound and cat scan for Carotid Artery blockage and both sides are above 85% blockage.  I started on Atorvastatin and that made me weaker than ever, even with CoQ10.  I asked for and got prescription for 2000 mg/day Nicotinic Acid B3 and in the 3 weeks my numbers changed. I am feeling realy good lately.  Stronger and more flexible.  Sleeping better.  Getting roto router (TCar) as soon as I get clearance from a cardiologist.  I expect that by my next blood panels in April to be even better. I am beginning to believe that like vitamin D where the RDA only accounts for preventing Rickets, the RDA for B3 is way underestimated.   From Oct 22 to Jan 17: A1c from 13.5 to 10.2 eGFR from 55 to 79 Triglyeride from 458 to 362 Total cholesterol from 245 to 264 HDL from 27 to 44 VLDL from 84 to 68 LDL from 134 to 154
    • plumbago
I have taken thiamine on and off (just not at this exact moment), and I’m not sure it's made any difference. Yes, I almost always “fast” (12 hours NPO) for blood tests, as do a great many other Americans, so I tend to think that’s not it. All I can say is that the mystery continues. I could do some speculating here…well, heck, let me go ahead and speculate now: The lab ranges we all see on our reports are more or less the averages of Americans who have had those blood tests. Now, it’s up to you and me whether or not to think of the average American as healthy. I can make arguments both ways, more often than not, on the negative. My point here is that maybe the current range of HDL is somewhat skewed (ie, low), and maybe just maybe my super high (plus 100s) HDL results are not something to worry about; the range just needs updating. Why do I say this? Because pre-celiac disease diagnosis, my HDL values were in the normal range, but post celiac disease diagnosis, my HDL levels are way above average. See where I’m going? My trusty guidebook on celiac disease, Recognizing Celiac Disease by Cleo Libonati, RN, BSN, says that HDL increases after being on the gluten free diet. Or can increase, I guess. Then again, it could be something else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ In thinking of going to a cardiologist, I sort of fear that he/she will be dismissive of a link to celiac disease, treated celiac disease, and would not therefore be considering all possibilities. @trents I'm sorry you've been diligently working on your numbers to no effect. That must be frustrating. LDL is a world that is far better understood than HDL, so for you there's maybe less "mystery." Familial hypercholesterolemia is for sure something that can be tested. Outside of that, you're right, genetics can determine a general pattern.
    • trents
Well, I have the opposite problem. My LDL has been moderately high for years. I eat healthy and exercise regularly but can't seem to move that meter. I used to be on a statin (and my doctors want me to go back on one) and it brought both HDL and LDL down but the ratios never changed. I think a lot of that cholesterol stuff is just baked into the genes.
