OMG I have this great image of you loading the cart, sunglasses on ,...music from a spy movie....lobster tails hanging out of every trench coat pocket, sticking out of your shirt where you have shoved them down there face first.......and speedily checking them out at the self-check register before the frozen food dept. manager realizes his magnificent blunder........and running to the parking lot..

yes, BECAUSE I'M SO NON-CHALANT LOLOLZ!!!  (i felt like lucy ricardo - quick, honey, create a diversion!!)

my hubs is convinced that the 'fish boy' has a thing for me - remember the $2.99 lobsters?  ;) same guy...

non-chalant and graceful, I am sure!!

Addy...we've got another Lucy Ricardo here! :D

yes, I remember fish boy. I have "meat counter guy" myself.

He actually looks past others and asks me what I would like today? (even when I am not first in line)...he told me 15 years ago that he likes me best because the first time I came in,  I asked "May I have...." instead of

"GIMME a".. and he was so grateful someone asked him politely for once. Made me sad he felt so mistreated.

I was stunned back then by that comment and I still am today. Why wouldn't anyone say "may I have..."??

Lisa, that photo is breathtaking.  You are both GORGEOUS!!  I am so very happy for you.

Thanks Everyone!

Just for kicks my silly body decided to flare two evenings in a row....no more experimenting for me for a while -- lol...I mean no more experimenting with foods.....  :P (need a little blushing dude).

Anyhoo....another rain check for dinner date...thinking it may be tomorrow afternoon if my evenings keep us guessing.

I'm a "Lucy" too -- must be another one of those unpublished Silly Symptoms ;)

Dinner tonight is....hmmm...wtf is dinner tonight....oh I know:

Baked Chicken

Sweet Potato Fries -- three colors :)

Carrots

and the good old Chocolate Mousse for dessert

thinking a trip to the Farmer's Market to make things a bit more colorful for the next few days will help.

Happy Friday to all!!!  That looked much cheerier than I am...will work on it!

IrishHeart Veteran

((hugs)) and sorry you had to postpone for now, Ski but I know you will come out of this and be back riding your bike very soon, honey!!

Dinner on Fridays is always golf day, so that means pizza, but not today .....as I too, have had a few bumps lately  so

I am KISSing myself  (keeping it simple stupid) so I can also feel as good as I was feeling pre-glutening, pre-tick bite, pre -inflammation.

Looks like:

baked chicken

sweet potato fries

carrots

Oddly, that is what I have in my fridge/pantry, too!.

:D

yeah, irish, that sounds nice :)  i am stuck with whatever the husband chooses because it's his b-day today.  he probably wants (blech) steak.  i know, i know, people are supposed to like steak...........   <_<

Here's one for you....I go outside to rescue a chipmunk who has caught himself up in the netting around the blueberry bushes

that is there to keep the birds away.  He has gotten the netting wrapped around his neck and his legs--like he is hogtied.

And he is squealing like mad.

I go back inside, grab scissors & run  (I know, I know ) and get him partly undone, but it is a terrible mess of tangled webbing and it's choking the poor thing. Okay. I can do this.

I have to cut the ones that are wrapped around his neck somehow. Not easy. there are several plus his feet are bound...and he's wriggling like mad.

I work as quickly as I can, but he keeps doubling his body over into a ball. Just as I almost get the feet done, the little s$#& bites me

on the left index finger!

Breaks the skin, too . He hobbles towards the back --the forest area...me, chasing like a dope because I want to help this little thing.

I grab him again...NOW I put the stupid glove on (duh!) and I get the legs almost undone...it was an epic struggle to get this thing to hold still, but I can't get the one around his neck cut before he bolts into the woods.

.....where I am forbidden to go because I just got the tick bite and the rash.

I could never catch him anyway..he's gone in a flash. I start to cry because I am sure he will not live with that around his neck. I almost had it... damn.

Hubs is headed for the golf course and his phone is off ( an hour away) so I relay a message to his pal to have him call me.

I am an hour away from the urgent care center and my doc is on vacation....so, I wash and clean the wound (this is not my first time cleaning a wound, lets just say)...Okay, think....tetanus booster was 2004. good --under 10 years --- but I'm probably gonna need another one....good news is, the urgent care doc calls me back to say "no worries, tomorrow is soon enough". Oh boy, that shot will freeze up my deltoid muscle for a few days. arrgh.

The fun never ends in Lucy Ricardo land. <_<

I am laughing my ass off....sure wish you hadn't got bit....but you running with scissors after this poor little dude is a visual I will not soon forget!

Thank you for sharing!!!

Sure hope the shot doesn't lock you up too much -- darn that wild life is keeping you hopping - literally -- just imagine how quiet your life will be in Florida -- you may need to be thinking about joining the Marine Rescue Unit -- only partially kidding...you'd be great at it :D

Adalaide Mentor

Look on the bright side, at least chipmunks aren't a rabies risk. So, it could be worse I guess.

And yes, the visual of you running across your yard with scissors is quite hilarious. I needed a laugh today. (Not just because it is a bad day, but because I'm at the end of a book I've read before and I know what happens and I'm about to lose a very dear friend... it doesn't become any less heart wrenching no matter how many times I read it. I'll cry like a baby and I'm putting it off as if that will save him.)

My husband brought home some cheddar bacon bratwurst last night that he wants tonight. So, that is for him. I have no idea what I'm having. With the kind of day I'm having I may just grill a burger and some lettuce. Just... one of those. <_<:wacko: I shoulda stayed in bed.

wish I had a video of me trying to wrestle that chipmunk and saying "come on little dude, I am trying to help you... fah cryin out loud!

my Bostonian comes out when I am all agitated.

of course, I wish I had video of me rescuing the chiipmunk my Maeve (previous cat) had in her mouth in OUR LIVING ROOM (that chipmunk's eyes were the size of saucers)LOL  ..or the many birds that flew inside or the bat I caught in the fly swatter and brought outside while 2 men stood there quaking in their boots...or when I yelled at the bear on my front porch who had my bird feeder in his paws (but first, I got the camera and snapped his pic!)...or the neighbor's herd of cows who came to graze on my lawn...or the neighbor's horses we drove home by whipping the dog's leashes in the air like a cowboy...all the way up the road..or the time I held up a snake to show my Mom and she almost fainted....lots of adventures here in paradise. Gonna miss it.

But, they have a sea turtle rescue and a marine wildlife center down there that needs volunteers ..... :)

I was typing when you were typing, sorry Addy...and  ((hugs))

When my oldest daughter was 6 she chased me around my mother's yard with a snake. I was probably shrieking like a little girl, all I actually remember was the panic. I ran in the house and my mother forbid her to bring the snake in the house. What is up with little girls and snakes? EWWW!!!!

Since there isn't, we are grilling:

Baked then Mashed Mango Whisky Sweet Potatoes

Apple Cider Vinegar et. al. Slaw

Blueberries (aren't grilling those tiny suckers!)

We had chicken parm and steamed green beans with almonds.

I love chicken parn, I don't know if I want to make my own breadcrumbs or what. Feel free to give me any suggestions if you have anybody

Too hot to do any cooking in or outside, I might make a chicken, pizza with some bacon. Or do a beef taco with refriened beans.

I am four months into living gluten free. When the doctor first told me I have celiac he said it takes time for the small intestine to heal. Can anybody elaborate on this?

Thanks guys! You all are amazing

Hub said he would be home and grill. Asked 17 yr old....." I don't care. It s all good". 20 yr old " burgers!". So we had burgers - we mix the very lean hamburger with BBQ sauce. Then really good corn on the cob - peel, butter and wrap in foil & grill. Ore Ida crinkle fries in the oven! Forgot I was going to put carrot sticks on everyone's plate!

HOLY KRAP!  lolz you are killin' me!  (ya know, those chipmunk things are at the bottom of the food chain.  hawks and owls are high-fiving....)  what a funny story, irish - but don't be too heartbroken - there's probably 30 more waiting for their shot at the blueberry bush ;)

breadcrumbs are easy (but not cheap loolz - i must be celebrating hubs' b-day too much tonight with crappy redbridge lolz i keep chickening out of the wine spritzer idea!

i use the bread ends from udi's or rudi's or even bread i didn't like because of the texture or whatever, i will save and just dry out in the oven a little, then zip them around in the mini-choppa.  if i want panko-ish breadcrumbs, i don't dry out the bread very much, get them to the choppa!  <see what i did there, a little arnie humor yuk yuk  ^_^ )  they will chop a little bigger because they're still a little moist then i put them back in the oven on a sheet pan for a few minutes till they're dried.  i am the queen of improvise lolz if i can't make it, i can fake it   ;)

ps - i have also bought gluten-free breadcrumbs but they were 'wierd' - like one kind was all ground up seeds and whatnot, one kind was very obviously 'corny', etc, but depending on what you're making, some of these might work for different recipes.  i like plain jane from gluten-free bread - then i can add whatever i want (italian seasoning, garlic, whatever) depending on what i'm shooting for :)

don't ya love that?  what do y'all want for dinner????????  no matter how many warm bodies were in the house, the answer was always:

FOOD.

what kind of food???????????

THE KIND YOU EAT.

at least you got a pretty good idea lolz - maybe i should ask your 20 what he wants then make it here hahahahaaa!!   :)

edited to add:  did you ever grill the corn right in the husks?  we trim them (pull off dry outer husks, cut off top silk)  soak them (sometimes) in water or salt water, (sometimes not) and put them right on the grill.  so sweet, delicious and juicy you don't need any butter or salt.  just peel and eat  :)

Irish, you'll have plenty of critters in Florida, but you won't need to rescue chipmunks!!  (You can grow blueberries though!)

I made red beans and rice with lots of veggies in the pressure cooker.  Served that over rice with grilled bratwurst and salad.

Well, the next step would logically be to commit in a serious way to the gluten-free diet and see if you have significant improvement in your symptoms. You should see improvement very soon with regard to GI issues and within weeks if there are other symptoms if gluten is indeed the issue. If there is significant improvement after going gluten free, that would tell you that you must avoid gluten and given the test results you already have, the logical conclusion is NCGS. As I said, an NCGS diagnosis is arrived at by first ruling out celiac disease, which seems to have been done. Then you could go back to that doctor with the other evidence component (improvement of symptoms with gluten-free eating) and ask if he/she would now be willing to declare an official dx of NCGS and give you a note. Or, you could book an appointment with another doctor who could look at your test results online, together with symptom improvement after going gluten-free, who might be more cooperative. I would seek out a younger practitioner as they are more likely to not be operating on outdated info about gluten disorders. By the way, NCGS is about 10x more common than celiac disease.
    • Jason Hi
Thank you for clarifying the terminology. Based on what my doctor told me, I understand that I do not have celiac disease, but that I’m “likely gluten sensitive.” From what I’ve researched, that places me in the category of Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS)—as you mentioned, the key difference is that with NCGS there are no damaged villi and no positive celiac-specific antibodies. Either way, my treatment is the same: follow a gluten-free diet to avoid feeling sick. My understanding is that there are three main issues related to gluten: 1. Celiac Disease (produces specific antibodies and damages the small bowel) 2. Wheat Allergy (an immune response to wheat proteins) 3. Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (negative celiac tests but still symptomatic from gluten) Regarding tax breaks or workplace accommodations, I came across a statement from celiac.org (https://celiac.org/gluten-free-living/federal-benefits/tax-deductions/) indicating that having any formal diagnosis—celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity—plus a prescription from a physician is typically required to qualify. In my case, my goal is to avoid feeling sick and secure documentation for both work and potential tax benefits. If I do pursue further tests or get more detailed lab results, I’ll share those here to confirm whether the doctor is suggesting celiac disease or truly NCGS. But as of now, the doctor’s comments lead me to believe I fall under NCGS.
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Jason Hi! First, we need to deal with some squishy terminology. There are two terms which are, unfortunately, used interchangeably and indiscriminately to refer to two different gluten-related disorders. The two terms are "gluten sensitive" and "gluten intolerant". Because these terms are used carelessly we are not certain what you mean when you say your doctor told you that your are likely "gluten sensitive". The actual medical terms for these two gluten disorders are: "celiac disease" and "Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity" or NCGS for short. The test you had run by the GI doc are intended to check for celiac disease. There is no test for NCGS. To arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS, celiac disease must first be ruled out.  Because these terms are used by many people interchangeably I'm not sure that your doctor, after running the tests, was intending for you to understand that he believes you have celiac disease or NCGS. So, to clear up the confusion, can you post the results of your blood test, not just the test scores but the reference ranges used by the lab analyzing the blood sample to determine negative/positive or normal/high? The difference between celiac disease and NCGS is that celiac disease damages the lining of the small bowel over time whereas NCGS does not. However, they may share many of the same gastro intestinal symptoms. Both need to be addressed with a gluten free diet but the tax breaks and work place accommodations you speak of would likely only accrue from an official celiac disease diagnosis. So, can you post the blood test results along with the reference ranges and also the endoscopy report. We can help you decipher whether or not the doc was suggesting you may have celiac disease or NCGS if you will do that.
    • Jason Hi
I recently had an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and blood tests, and my gastroenterologist concluded that I’m “likely gluten sensitive.” However, they wouldn’t provide a prescription or a formal doctor’s note—just a test result saying I’m likely gluten sensitive, along with the advice to avoid gluten. I’m frustrated because I know that proper documentation could help with tax breaks for gluten-free foods and even workplace accommodations. I’m also not willing to go through another gluten challenge—it was rough! Does anyone have recommendations for a doctor (U.S. based preferably Texas) who is more understanding and willing to provide the necessary documentation for gluten sensitivity? I’d really appreciate any suggestions!
    • ALBANICKAP
Hi, I'm very frustrated with my problems related to the above.  I find Gluten to be easier than fructose, at times even lactose b/c I love cheese.  I do buy lactose free dairy products but still have problems.  Have recently been adding more bread to bulk up my stools.  Any suggestions for products that might help? Thx. AP
