Be good to yourselves while recovering. No rush to "be all better". Your body needs extra time after anesthesia. Got it?  ;) good. Big hugs!

Dinner last night was meatball pizza. Really daring for me. So far, so good. And our table and chairs finally arrived, so we were thrilled

to be able to sit and eat....all that standing was getting old. (j/k we borrowed a neighbor's card table --and they are getting a flourless chocolate cake with ganache as a"thank you". )

I'll be good. I have nothing to hurry for. I figure I can be better when I'm better, and until then I'm happy to be a lump with my netflix and my books. :D

Do I have anything you need to borrow so I can get a cake? Um... I mean gratz on the table finally showing up! :P Did two guys personally carry it from Zimbabwe or something? Sheesh, it took long enough.

Made another chicken stir fry. For the sauce I used Worcestershire, San-j gluten-free soy sauce, some sriracha and 1 cup of light balsalmic vinaigrette. To thicken it I used guar gum--but it didn't need much if at all.  I used 2 bags of frozen stir fry veggies and 3 lb of chicken (a bit much .. but I was not willing to leave behind 1 breast and cook that differently.. haha - just really high in protein). Pretty satisfying and it made about 6 portions (and these are good sized portions). Served it over brown rice.

It was only coming from Georgia for pete's sake..man, J could have built the table and chairs and you could have upholstered them for me  a whole lot faster.... :D  ah well, borrowing a table from the new neighbors worked out. I have some new pals and their dogs are adorbs. And she already said "If you ever need anyone to check on your kitty...."  Good to know.

See, all things work out.

I'm up way, way too late tonight. This is what happens when a much anticipated new video game is released. I think I'll just have a little of the meatloaf I'm already going to be making before i pack it away for dinner tonight. Probably have to call in an early dinner and starve all night. <_<

HAHAHAHA my husband was up past dawn playing the new Diablo expansion.  We are big wow players, I play Diablo casually but he is a serious gamer.  Like, sometimes I think I need to take him to gaming rehab, LOL!

Jamie, that chicken stir fry sounds good, pretty similar to what I do.  I am all for making delicious things with leftovers, I eat them at lunchtime.

Irish, I am glad I put off the gallbladder surgery a couple of years, because now they can use the Da Vinci surgical robot system and remove the gallbladder with one incision through the bellybutton.  With my immunodeficiency they very much like to do fewer and smaller incisions if possible so that is nice.  I did my preop appointment yesterday, got the freezer stocked with frozen dinners and a good amount of make ahead freezer meals for me.  Lots of soup, pudding, stuff like that to eat while I'm not feeling too hot.

Honestly, I am nervous.  My career is in healthcare and I am much more comfortable giving people their pills than being the patient myself.  Something about the total loss of control.  I am well aware of all the risks involved and it scares me a lot.  I know this sounds silly, but I really fear suffering and being in terrible pain, but I know me waking up at night screaming in pain and scaring the crap out of my husband is not something I like to do... so I am going to get it done, lol.  I had two hand surgeries in 2012 (carpal tunnel release on both hands) and before the first one I basically had a panic attack when they called me back to go get changed and stuff.  Hopefully I won't do that this time, I am not that nervous, am more accepting that this A-hole gallbladder is finally getting the boot.

But yes, tonight, it will be an early dinner for me and I too shall starve until my early morning procedure.  I get grumpy when I don't eat, haha.  So I probably won't be on here, at least coherently, for a few days.  And after I eat all my freezer meals I made and hopefully they are good, I will have to post recipes for ya'll.  Thanks for all the positive thoughts, all!  And Addy I will be thinking about you!!

I know what you mean about working in the health care field and having procedures done... My first sugery (fractured radius/ulna- horse riding trauma) I had a terrible recovery... it made me nervous for each and every surgical procedure I have had since. Thankfully my 3 knee surgery recoveries were smoother.. I was very twitchy with my anesthesiologist. I basically said I take way too long to recover and I will wake up vomiting so hit me with your strongest antinausea. It works. ;) I am sure things will be fine. Just breathe breathe breathe. Don't let all the 'what if' possibilities drive you crazy. What is going to happen will happen regardless if you worry or not! Easier said than done.. ((Hugs))

We're Diablo people too, and very seriously. We used to be WoW players but gave it up. I've spent half of my day today while I'm supposed to be getting ready playing the new Diablo expansion instead of getting ready. But we beat it, so hah! B) But I can't eat dead, corrupted angels so I better get back to getting ready.

I got 4 little scars from my gallbladder, nothing cool like being operated on by a robot! I'm kind of jealous that you're getting something so super high tech and awesome. You're so organized getting ready before today. My biggest fear is I'll doze off and find some moron with a pressure cuff on my left arm and I'll strangle them. Or it'll end up a fight over me eating my food, even though they said it won't. I'm just scared of being able to manage my CRPS and celiac while I'm there for 23 hours, once I'm home I know I'll be in good hands with my husband.

Good luck!!! And feel better fast. ^_^

I was a post-op barfer too -- really didn't work out great for the inner ear surgery...but I did learn to ask for the best antinausea meds too -- haven't had trouble since - well with vomit.  All morphine derivatives make me itch terribly -- love when i was doped up after hysterectomy and my family thought it was funny that i couldn't explain how bad I was itching -- grrrr.  Other than that I just feel like crap for about a week after anesthesia.  I agree with Jamie ask for the good anti-nausea meds -- I really should find out what those are -- so far I've been ok with "really good, rolls royce of anti-nausea" description.

hmmm...all this surgery talk reminds me I need a new protocol for my silly mast cells -- hopefully we won't need to use it any time soon.

Best of luck tomorrow -- Addie and Laura -- we'll all be waiting to hear you are on the mend :)

Dinner Tonight:

I can't do most drugs (codeine makes my heart  thud out of my chest and causes nausea and the whirlies, sedatives make me hyper and anxious(I live in opposite world, apparently), anesthesia?--barf-o-rama later... and you should see me if you give the control button on the morphine drip. It's not pretty.  I hit that thing so many times I had a migraine for a week. Don't do that! lol

Our celiac bodies are not designed to do drugs, methinks....

Listen to me, both of you!! It will be over before you realize it and you are going to be fine. Getting yourselves worked up over it beforehand is not a good idea. Just makes all those muscles extra ouchy and tense. Just think this way: I am going to be better off when all is said and done.

I'm down about 6 organs at this point and apparently, I don't need them.  lol

okay, pretend this is me cheering you both on tomorrow!!

and if I were having surgery tomorrow, I'd be stockpiling the gelato....just sayin.

Irish made me snort   -- it wasn't pretty :P -- was shacking on baby cucs with cilantro garlic (heavy garlic) sauce -- ouch!!!

It's almost 6 in the morning. I slept like hell. The morphine makes me itch like hell but the percocet isn't quite enough alone yet so we added benadryl. I've been outta bed a few times and am surprised at how much easier it is to get around than I thought it would be. No issues at all with my CRPS protocol or food. We have a simple ask before you touch policy and the nurses have been awesome. They've heated my broth for me, and my lavender heating pad. I was even allowed regular food last night so my husband brought me meatloaf and mac & cheese. I'm even feeling good enough the if I talk to someone from the kitchen maybe they can feed me chex for breakfast. Applesauce is awesome, but just not cutting it. I'm STARVING!

Anyway. I guess my point is I'm doing awesome. Sometime today I'll get to go home and can chill with non-stupid tv, classic Dr. Who and my collection of new movies I picked up at pawn shops for $1-2 each.

Has anybody heard from Laura? Laura..... hulloooooooo........????????

I'm home and feeling about as awesome as can be expected. Which is generally like I got my guts ripped out. Hahaha. I was up taking 10 minute walks at the hospital often enough to have made a deal with them to get those stoopid things off my legs. I'm getting my short walks now out front of the house and the change of scenery and fresh air is great. Of course, I didn't tell all the neighbors I was having surgery so they probably all think I'm a crazy person shambling like a zombie out front every few hours in my jammies. I'm down 3 organs now and I have to say that I'm pretty happy without them. B) (I should have told them to take my appendix for the lols just in case it ever decides to betray me.)

It's been 2 days and I can't take another bite of meatloaf or casserole or any other such thing. So I'm making my husband cook me a frozen pizza tonight. He can find my rainbow carrots in the bottom of the freezer for me also and get a few bags out to easy reach for me so I can just steam the in the microwave tomorrow while I'm home alone.

This is fantastic news Addie .... keep up the walks!  I am so very happy it went well.

I'm not worried about Laura...I am certain she is fine...but likely having a bit harder time in the hospital than you.  She'll be back online very soon -- right, Laura?

Love and hugs to you both : )

I know she has her own challenges that make things difficult. I'm sure she is fine too. I just wanted to hear how her cool robot surgery went and hopefully see her pop her head in and just say hi, and that she generally feels like hell, or whatever, because I'm sure we both do, and she can go back to whatever. At least if she reads this she knows we're thinking of her.

Im alive!!!!! One of the worst experiences of my adult life, they ended up keeping me over night to control my pain as I had a hard time and was basically a 10/10 pain level in delirium all Thursday. They were able to feed me half decently but I hadn't prepared for that so I was all like... Ugh. Lol. Went home the next day, much more comfortable at home with hubby taking care of me, setting alarms so i don't miss a pain med dose but am already getting a teeny bit better.

There was some gluten-free bread they fed me in the hospital called like celebration bakery or something I made my husband write it down, SO GOOD OMG! Will need to hunt that down. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to sit at the computer and not have to use the internet on my phone. So I will hop on next when I can do that. Just thought I better post on here before they think i died lol. Thanks for the kind thoughts guys!!!!! :)

Awww, I'm so sorry it didn't go well for you. But at least you got awesome bread out of it! I hope it wasn't just awesome because you were drugged. LOL! Feel better soon!

I'm sure my MIL who is always worried about appearances is thrilled with this, but I've been getting short walks out front all day yesterday. Today I should be good to walk to the other corner about a block away. In my jammies. Oh yeah, bringin sexy back! B)

You're so brave letting the hospital feed you at all. I was too scared for that. Other than milk from a carton, and at some point I ate a popsicle that came in it's package (I was pretty drugged, but I did read the ingredients) I was way to afraid they were morons who would poison me out of incompetence. Also, three cheers for awesome husbands who take care of us when we're all sorts of messed up.

wait, this girl is not the same cheerleader we used to use. This girl is too freakin bouncy.  She's making me nauseous...lol

anyhoo....

I am glad you are both okay and I trust you will both do what you are supposed to do to get back on your feet and back in the ballgame.

Not taking away from your experiences one single bit, and I know how icky it all is, but the procedures are a whole different than they used to be in the "olden days" and recovery took weeks and weeks.Incisions into deep muscle and tissues = not so good. Just take it easy and hydrate and get those drugs out of your systems as soon as you can. (okay, enough mother hen stuff)

Dinner tonight is  meatloaf, whipped potatoes and English peas. Just feel like an old school dinner. lol

Tomorrow may be grilled game hens with risotto and asparagus. This is very exciting to me because we have not been able to grill all this time (we left ours for the new home owners) ...and we are getting a new one Tuesday.  whoohoo.

What can I say ? I am easily amused and delighted by small things.

 Is it possible our new cheerleader crashed the site?

She is awfully peppy ;)

Dinner tonight:

Baked Chicken Thighs with Honey Lemon Sauce

Pad Thai Noodles with Honey Lemon Chili Sauce

Broccoli

Encore Strawberry Pie for the Men -- Hey...guess who finally made an awesome flaky, rolled out pie crust -- yep, that's right -- never had issue with gluten-free cake baking, but previous regular pie crust left a lot to be desired.

For me and only me --- I found these little dark belgian choc cups that I used to make Almond Butter Cups -- OH MY GOODNESS how I missed Resee's (for the peanuts, soy and other crap, I know they are gluten-free).

LauraTX Rising Star

I'm sitting at my computer desk right now for the first time :D  Harder to move arms and type and stuff will mostly browse but yay for entertainment not on a cell phone! I think I should be able to start cutting down on the pain med tomorrow.  My hubby is going back to work so he will leave mid afternoon and have me set up with things in easy to reach places, and my stepmom (who is like my mom) will stop by after she is off work to heat up something for me and get me settled again for my lunch.  Then my hubby gets home after midnight, of course we are usually up pretty late with that schedule so ill eat something again for dinner when he gets home. I am going to have my stepmom put on one of the freezer crockpot meals I made to be ready when hubby gets home, and I am glad I did make them up because I am tired of frozen dinners I just want real food, haha.  I will post more about the experience in maybe a few days, specifically trying to ask the nutrition lady gluten-free eating questions after I had had every drug under the sun... haha, she was so patient!  At least I now have a hospital I can say I want to go to if I have to go to a hospital again.

Lisa do you have a recipe/directions for those Baked Chicken Thighs with Honey Lemon Sauce? sounds good:) I like chicken thighs and leg quarters

I'm glad you're doing well.  I have to ask - what are rainbow carrots???

Adalaide Mentor

Rainbow carrots are carrots that aren't orange. They're purple, red, yellow and white. Every color tastes a little different, but they all still taste like carrots. I got a huge bag of them really cheap a while ago and blanched and froze them. Now I have a freezer full of beautiful carrots. :D

I think tomorrow I'll probably start to have time that I'm actually off of my drugs, which means I may be able to start to cook again. Which is nice because this frozen food thing is old. It's been less than a week and I can't stand my "leftover" cooking. I want fresh cooked meals.

LauraTX Rising Star

I want rainbow carrots!!!   I, too am sick of frozen dinners... its funny how much you spoil yourself when you home cook most everything.  Had my stepmom put on a freezer crock pot meal... honey garlic chicken.  Will have that tonight so hopefully it is good. Was a recipe I made untested off the internet.  I think by tomorrow I will be pretty much independent, able to cut down on loopy laura pain meds today, but will wait to do things like shower until my hubby is home. Lunch today is a annies gluten-free mac and cheese cup and a big dollop of fat free refried beans to keep things moving.  Haha.

-- too much time dealing with insurance companies, doctors and more for my Mom -- good thing a wonderful friend sent me the new America's Test Kitchen Cookbook   and I received a free ticket from Living Without for their San Diego gluten-free Fair in May -- the mail carrier may have saved someone in my family from my wrath ;)

Son without job on Spring Break has been instructed to cook tonight -- steak, baked mac and cheese along with peas is his go-to menu.  I'll throw a paleo pizza in the oven for me :)

Adalaide Mentor

Apparently it has been decided that I'm allowed to use the oven. So I'm baking some chicken tonight. Yay!!! Not frozen meals. Carrots and maybe rice or something with it.

Insurance companies and everything about them are designed to just piss people off. I had to spend hours on the phone between my PT and insurance, then spend a weekend waiting for a callback, just to find out my PT is out of network but that I can get an exception. <_< Tomorrow I get to try to make sure it's all sorted out and make an appointment. Joy.

There’s a Cosco in Auckland in New Zealand. It’s a bit away from where I live but it’s worth the travel for me. Very appreciative of your advice.

It seems you have proven that you cannot eat gluten.  You've done what your doctors have not been able to do in 40 years. That's your low vitamin D, a common symptom with Celiac Disease.  Zinc is also a common defiency.  Its an antiviral.  that's why zinc gluconate lozenges work against airborne viruses.  Vitamin D and the Immune System+ Toe cramps, I find 250 mg of Thiamine helps.   When I started GFD I counted 19 symptoms going back to childhood that improved with Gluten Free Diet and vitamin D. I still take 10,000 IU a day to maintain 80 ng/ml and get it tested 4 times a year. Highest was 93 ng/ml and that was at end of summer.  Any excess is stored in fat or excreted through bile.   The western diet is deficient in many nutrients including choline and iodine.  Thats why processed foods are fortified.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of vitamins and minerals from the small intestine damage.  GFD stops the damage, but you will still have symptoms of deficiency until you get your vitamins repleted to normal.  Try to reduce your omega 6:3 ratio.  The Standard American Diet is 14:1 or greater.  Healthy is 3:1.  Wheat flour is 22:1.  Potatoes are 3:1 while sweet potatoes are 14:1.  So those sweet potatos that everyone says is better than Russet: they are increasing your inflammation levels.

My mother also has celiac disease, and one of her symptoms for many years before her diagnosis was TMJ. I believe it took her many years on a gluten-free diet before this issue went away.
    • Jeff Platt
Ear pain and ringing your entire life may or may not be TMJ related but could be something else. A good TMJ exam would be helpful to rule that out as a potential cause from a dentist who treats that. I have teens as well as adults of all ages who suffer from TMJ issues so it’s not a certain age when it shows up.
    • cristiana
Not sure if related to coeliac disease but my ear ringing  has stepped up a notch since diagnosis.  Even since a child silence really hurts my ears - there is always a really loud noise if there is no other noise in a quiet room - but my brain has learned to filter it out.  Since diagnosis in my forties I also get a metallic ringing in my ears, sometimes just one, sometimes both.  But it comes and goes.   My sister also suffers now, we are both in our fifties, but she is not a coeliac, so for all I know it could just be an age thing.  I do get occasional stabbing pain in my ears but that has been all my life, and I do appear to be vulnerable to outer ear infections too.  So not a particularly helpful reply here, but I suppose what I am trying to say is it might be related but then again it could just be one of those things.   I think in the UK where I live doctors like you to report if you get tinnitus in just the one ear.  I reported mine but no cause was found.  Most of the time it is nothing but sometimes it can have a cause that can be treated, so perhaps worth reporting to your GP.
