New here and just wondering:

Does blood glucose go up with celiac?

If you are intolerant or sensitive will the blood tests show that too?

Does celiac lead to other autoimmune disorders?

Do I need to load myself up with gluten for a blood test or is just a little enough to show after being gluten free for 2/3 weeks?

How long does it take to get blood results back?

I get my blood test tomorrow if dr will do it for me then. Thanks so much for your advice in advance!!! ;)

Not that i know of. Mine went down. Nothing like malabsorption to prevent diabetes!

If you are intolerant or sensitive will the blood tests show that too?

Varies. The definitions of intolerant and sensitive are not uniform. Blood tests may show an autoimmune reaction to gluten but not signs of an autoimmune reaction towards the intestines.

Does celiac lead to other autoimmune disorders?

Yes, and the longer it goes untreated, the greater the risk of developing additional AI disorders.

Do I need to load myself up with gluten for a blood test or is just a little enough to show after being gluten free for 2/3 weeks?

The recommendations are 3-4 slices of bread per day for 6 weeks minimum. 2-3 weeks would probably be enough to skew low positive numbers, but not high positive numbers.

How long does it take to get blood results back?

Varies. A week is typical but could be as long as three. Labs and such, plus doc processing time...

Mine does. I was falsely diagnosed with diabetes when I went to my doctor for help getting over a glutening. After many months of multiple daily finger pricks and consistently normal A1C levels it was decided that it was the glutening that raised it that one time. It is not unusual for blood glucose to be higher than normal when someone is sick. Do not just assume it is gluten related though. Do your daily testing and get the A1C's done.

That I can't answer. Some doctors would consider me to be intolerant rather than celiac because I don't show up positive in blood tests. My doctors, GI and Internist have me as a firmly diagnosed celiac though.

Yes it can. I had multiple autoimmune disorders prediagnosis. Fortunately for me they resolved gluten free but that isn't the case for all

I wish you had gotten the tests done before you went gluten free. If your going to have an endo done do get back on gluten. I don't know if 2/3 weeks gluten free will make a difference in your blood tests. False negatives are not uncommon even on a full gluten diet. What is more important is if the diet helps your problems.

Mine were repeatedly a false negative, and they tested over and over and over. The results were usually back within 2 weeks.

Just make sure to keep on gluten until your testing is finished. After your done testing do try the diet strictly for a couple of months at least as false negatives are not uncommon. Good luck.

Thank you all so much - yes I am keeping open to other possibilities, but I had an endo done about 10 years ago and my tummy was pardon the expression hamburger meat, (dx gastritis, no test for gluten) so if my blood tests are postive, I'm calling it a day and going gluten free. I'm eating a little gluten yesterday and today ate pizza last night woke up all jittery and palpitational... yea. ;( Daily chores are making me tired/out of breath too. joy.

Do your symptoms increase with lifes stresses?

Also does gluten vary your hormones as well.

So do I need to always be on the lookout for other AI issues even if I do go gluten free?

      Have you considered the possibility that you might have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) rather than celiac disease? They share many of the same symptoms, the difference being that NCGS does not damage the lining of the small bowel. It is 10x more common than celiac disease. There is no test yet available for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. In view of your genetic profile, I would give it consideration.

      Hi, 25f who recently had a endoscopy procedure to diagnose celiac disease. Mum and uncle are both diagnosed celiacs. I've had symptoms over the past year - headaches that have become debilitating and frequent, feeling faint and nauseous with high heart rate, diarrhea and constipation, anemia, and recently my periods have become almost non existent. My doctor sent me a letter yesterday saying this " biopsies from the duodenum show some very mild features that could be in keeping with celiac disease but also could be due to other causes". I am waiting on an appointment to see him in the clinic to discuss this but in the meantime I wanted to check if anyone else has experienced this? I was eating plenty of gluten before my camera test and for the past 2 weeks have completely cut it out of my diet and I'm seeing changes in my bowel movements for the first time in my life! Headaches, dizziness etc are still there but maybe it takes longer for them to go away? Any help would be so appreciated -  I feel so lost in this whole process!!

Your results indicate you carry one half of the DQ2 heterodimer (DQA1*05), which is associated with a very low celiac disease risk (0.05%). While most celiac patients have either DQ2 or DQ8, these genes are also present in people without celiac disease, so the test alone doesn’t confirm a diagnosis. Since you’ve been gluten-free for 10 years, traditional diagnostic methods (like endoscopy or blood tests) would not be reliable now. If an official diagnosis is important to you, consider discussing a gluten challenge with your doctor, where you reintroduce gluten for a period before testing. Alternatively, you could focus on symptom management and dietary adherence, as your gluten-free diet seems to be helping. Consulting a gastroenterologist or celiac specialist could provide further clarity.  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:
