Hi everyone,

I'm new here and am thankful for all the help I've already received reading past posts. My son is currently 2 years old and around his first birthday, he started having diarrhea almost daily. At first we thought it was a stomach virus but when it had been over 2 weeks and still hadn't cleared up, we took him to the doctor. Stool test showed nothing but the diarrhea kept up. One day, after feeding him a wheat product and him having diarrhea soon after, a light bulb went off in my head and I thought of the gluten. We took him off of it and his diarrhea cleared up.

I talked with his doctor about doing the blood test for Celiac but she said that since avoiding gluten was helping, and drawing blood from a child his age is usually traumatic, she wanted to hold off. I would prefer knowing if he truly has Celiac or if it's a gluten sensitivity but, for now, we don't know.

What I'm wondering about, is that sometimes if he inadvertently gets a hold of something with gluten, he'll get these bumps on him that almost look like big white head pimples. They're red, raised, with a whitish center. They don't seem to bother him at all and he only gets one, maybe two, at a time mostly on his face but occasionally around his diaper area.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is it a symptom of Celiac? I've read that hive type rashes that itch can be a symptom but it doesn't sound like what he gets.

Thanks for any input!

Roda Rising Star

Not sure this is related but I will share. I am one of the unfortunate celiac people that can not tolerate pure gluten free oats. I tried eating them 7 months after my diagnosis and oh boy was I miserable. I had horrible bloating/gas/abdominal pain, constipation for a week and red raised painful bumps all over my bottom that looked like pimples. Sure all the other symptoms were not fun, but the "rash" on my back side was the worst of it. It hurt to wear even undergarments. It eventually went away and needless to say I haven't eaten them since. Periodically I will get one or two of those painful red raised bumps back and I do think it is gluten related from cross contamination but I'm not 100% positive. Also I started noticing that my youngest son(6), who is gluten free going on two months now, has had small flesh colored bumps on his arms and legs that look like tiny pimples. They seem to be getting less now.

Here is a link to the skin version, and the only ingredients are "chicken": https://www.perduefarms.com/en-US/perdue-bone-in-chicken-thighs-pack/60625.html There should also be ingredients and any allergens listed there on the package.

Welcome to the forum, @BeeBarnard! I really can't imagine how either skin or skinless chicken thighs could not be gluten free unless one or the other were treated with some seasoning ingredient that was not gluten free. Do the product labels indicate any additional ingredients added to the meat? Is your daughter a super sensitive celiac? If not, the amount of gluten cross contamination found in seasonings is usually inconsequential.

HI, My daughter was recently diagnosed with Celiac and I would like to make her some chicken soup (she's got he flu). I found all gluten free ingredients but I'm having trouble with the chicken. I purchased Purdue bone-in chicken thighs from BJ's Wholesale Club. Purdue says that they are gluten free but the BJ's website says no. It seems like skin-on chicken is not, but skinless is. Does this seem accurate? Thank you

They had other appies to choose from so all's well that ends well. The Costco scallops are excellent but 4 x the price. Thanks!

Hello there, it's been ages since I signed into this account. Wanted to see if there were other celiac patients that have gone through perimenopause/menopause and chose to take estrogen or wear an estrogen patch? I know all of our bodies are different but curious how it went or is going for you. Thanks so much.
