Recurring Boils?

I have no idea if this is possibly celiac disease/DH related, but I get boils all the freaking time. Right now I have 4. I know that it's possibly related to my DH because I do tend to get secondary infections, but they generally aren't in places where I have DH (under my arms for example).

It just seems a little odd that I never had one in my life until 2 years ago when my DH started and my celiac disease symptoms started getting worse.

I've been on truckloads of antibiotics, I've tried the neosporin in the nose thing, I've tried tea tree oil washes and nothing works.

Any advice?

I don't know if it is related to celiac disease or not, but I have had periods of boils before, as have 2 of my children and my husband. I don't know why it happens. The doctor keeps telling me that the bacteria is naturally found on everybodys skin and sometimes it just happens.

Last November I had gone to the ER and came away with a staph infection at the shot site (they had given me demerol) and by December I had one of the worst boils I have ever had. Since the doctor was smart enough to biopsy and run the labs on the puss, we were able to find out about the staph and I had to take 3 different kinds of antibiotics to get rid of it. For months after that I was getting lots of boils. I was so happy when they finally went away. I had a run of boils about 5 years ago in both armpits, too. It always seems to happen right before I go on vacation and end up on antibiotics when we are traveling!

My daughter got some bad ones for a while on her bottom when she was potty training and constantly taking her diaper off. The doctor thought that she was getting cracks in the skin from playing on the floor and that was allowing the bacteria in.

My middle boy has gotten some minor ones, that go away on there own, but my husband used to get them all the time as a child in the Philippines and has scars all over his body from it. He does not have celiac disease. He still gets some occasionally.

I wish I could give you some advice on how to get rid of them, but other than making sure you don't spread them (don't share towels, and wash everything that comes in contact with the boils in hot water, wash your hands constantly, etc...) there isn't much to say. I do sympathise with your pain. I hope you feel better soon.

God bless,

Mariann

Thanks a lot! I will search that too. I also talked to another doctor and she assured me there is no gluten in this type of antibiotics. Anyway i started the administration of Augmentin on my girl this evening. I hope there will be no problems.

Good afternoon, I don’t know if anyone here has ever tried Braswell’s products like their marmalades or jellies? Are they gluten-free? On the ingredients says “cane sugar, cherries (cherries, cane sugar), strawberries, corn syrup, pectin and citric acid. That ingredient list is from their berry preserve bottle. Most of them say the same for ingredients, but I’m not sure if it is okay to consume.

I have seen this problem many times. I always get in touch with the company. Most times they tell me if I'm just gluten free it is ok, but do not eat it if you are celiac. Calling the company is the best way when you are not sure. Yesterday I had a different example of products being marked gluten-free.  I love chocolate and have a piece each day. The chocolate bar I like is Chocolove. When I bought one this week it was not marked gluten-free. I called the company to find out why and if it was still gluten-free.  Turns out the manufacturer decided there was too much on the wrapper and took off the gluten-free label. It is made in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
