What Helps With Brain Fog?

I haven't yet been tested for everything so I'm still on a gluten diet. I'm wondering if you guys have any strategies for coping with the brain fog - anything I can take to help? I'm having such a horrible time concentrating or remembering things I read or people say to me. I'm pretty worried about my upcoming midterms as I don't absorb any of the stuff I attempt to study.

I've got it right now so I'm having trouble remembering what I should do. :-)

Seriously, all I do is tons of water, sleep, no processed food and time.

Water, water, water. I'm not sure how well it will work since you're still eating gluten, but when I get CC I basically flush it out.

A study tip for when/if you are gluten free in the future: When I have midterms or finals coming up I start watching my food really careful a week or more ahead of time. I drop the processed food and don't eat anywhere where I'm risking CC. Water, rice, fruits and veggies, meat and eggs. I would feel much better if I did that every day, but at school I'm forced to bring in processed and quick foods. For that week or two, I feel great.

Bridget, that is great advice. I'm obviously WAY out of school, but I worry so much about my gluten-free daughter. I'll make sure we follow that advice when she's hitting high school. We should be following it all the time, but with kids it's hard.

Hope you get your tests completed soon. I never did the gastro tests because I didn't have the nerve to do the challenge.

My entire life I have struggled with slow processing and working memory. Very frustrating!!! There are times now when my head is clear and my thought processes are lighting fast and effective. But when I get glutened, I feel like my thoughts are slogging through oatmeal while lost in a dark forest.

I have been taking "Think Fast" it's a very complicated list of fungi, vitamins and minerals that are supposed to clear your head and improve processing. I feel they really work for me. They are gluten free, if that becomes an issue for you in the future. They are a bit pricey at about $30 for a month's supply. When you need your mind to make money, then the price seems somewhat inconsequential.

As everyone else has stated I also drink tons of water. It really seems to help keep the cobwebs swept out.

I hope some of this is helpful to you. I know what it's like to know that you're memory and thought processing is not what it should be AND how scarey it is try to learn new things while knowing all this.

When I get glutened, drinking a Red Bull seems to help lift the fog. Somebody said it's the B-12 that's helpfu. It also has other B vitamins. Lots of water also helps flush out the offending molecules. I love bubbly water and it helps calm my queasy tummy while rehydrating me.

      I haven’t had any noticeable reactions to salt so I will continue using it. I think I just freaked out when I realized this but it doesn’t cause me any discomfort- so thanks!

      Ok, thanks. I'm so glad to hear you are in the hands of a dermatologist. I hope he/she has given you 1) a diagnosis; and 2) a plan of care with a couple of options so that you have buy-in and comfort with it. I have some ideas, but not having seen the abscesses or you in person, it doesn't really make sense for me to kind of ... speculate further. But your question was regarding gluten, and you've gotten a couple of other follow up questions and answers that are good, including the idea to keep a food diary. Let us know if we can help further or answer any other questions. I'm sorry you're going through this, it sounds very painful.

      @plumbago They appear as boils. They are big, like the size of a nickel--quarter, and they hurt when I touch them. I have gone to the same derm for them over and over and she thinks my body is colonized by a bacteria, but even after using hibiclens all over my body they come back.
