Azteca

We are thinking about trying Azteca for an early dinner tomorrow. I contacted the company and received a great email with a list of their gluten-free items, he told me to attach his name to the printout and hand to the manager when we arrive and that they are currently working with GIG to standardize a gluten-free menu.

AnyWho, anyone tried Azteca? Successes? Failures??

We have eaten there but for the most part we find the food quite disgusting. My husband had a windshield replacement and with it got a bunch of coupons for free food there. We used one of the coupons once. We got three orders of beef fajitas. The meat was tough and inedible. The vegetables overcooked to the point of being mush. We did eat the beans and rice. The waiter tried to give us boxes. We declined and I told my husband to give the coupons away.

We did eat there again this summer when they had a salad special going on. They made a special salad for my daughter. The chicken is normally breaded but they made one with plain grilled chicken. That meal was just okay.

The main problem we have there is with the service. It is VERY slow. At least the one in Mill Creek is. We tried the one in Lynnwood by the Alderwood Mall a couple of times and they kept getting our orders wrong. Such as giving us chicken when we ordered beef. Or putting cheese on our food after we asked for no cheese.

We've had the best success at the one in Mountlake Terrace. They did get the order wrong once. The other times the orders came out fine. We were just very careful what we ordered. I think daughter would only have beans, rice and corn tortillas. That's how much she dislikes the rest of the food. I usually just suffer through the tostada. This is not a place we would go by choice, but it is one of my nephew's favorite restaurants so we sometimes go there for his birthday.

Thankfully there are other Mexican restaurants around here that are much better and one of them even mentions food allergies on their menu. Another one has been very good to fix special meals for us. Everyone in my family save for my husband has some kind of food issue.

As for getting glutened at Azteca, that hasn't happened to us. We just don't want to eat the food.

I go to Azteca every once in a while. Here in the OC, the food is quite good. I haven't gotten glutened, nor has my son.

Enjoy!

I have been using the eye drops every hour and at night the gel drops as well as the heating mask. I have been traveling and kind of slowed on this routine, but it seems to be back a bit more now that I'm back at work (on the computer).  It seems strange to me that I would start getting this after a couple of months into the gluten free diet. Between this, the muscle twitches, the anxiety... I am quite overwhelmed. I can't find much on people whose eyes start getting dry AFTER gluten free.

Welcome to the forum, @warren031945! Use the search tool in the upper right corner of this forum page to find articles addressing your needs. I know there have been articles done on celiac.com dealing with the question of gluten-free cheeses and candies. Whether or not you could find something already put together in one place that is gluten free is another question, however.
