Flour Tortilla

Hi all, I went to a restraunt with a gluten free menu for dinner last saturday. I ordered their fajitas with corn tortillas. However, when they brought me my meal they gave me flour tortillas. I had picked them up and smelled them to see if they were corn, found out they weren't and sent it back. I didn't eat it, but can you get a reaction from just touching and smelling it? I have had extreme fatigue, nausea, D, and restlessness for the past 5 days. Any responses will be appreciated :)

Well, first question I have for you is, did you wash your hands after you handled them? If not the residue on your fingers were glutened. Then you handled something later that you put in your mouth. Walla, glutened!

Also, if the tortillas were touching any of the other food on your plate it was glutened, therefore you were glutened.

Sorry to say you definetly sound like you were glutened from it. Try drinking water to flush faster from your system.

Hope you get to feeling better.

Same thing just happened to me last week. I handed cookies to my sister's kids. Then sat down and happily munched on my nuts that were "safe". Got sick- knew it was gluten and didn't know how it happened. If you touch it, it is on your hands. Yup, then in your mouth. Sorry that happened to you.

Yeah, friend of mine just had that happen with her midget. He had totally gluten free food, but she had picked up the gluten food and then handed him his food, and wham, he got glutened.

However, with flour tortillas, there is a slight chance inhaling could do it, if they were those ones that have loose flour on the sides? Then you'd be inhaling some of the flour, and a little of that will go down your throat, too.

If you were eating in a restaurant it could be anything. If they would put a flour tortilla on there, who knows what else they might have done. I had to give up on restaurants as a super sensitive celiac.

Yes, if you had symptoms when eating gluten ruling out celiac disease won't necessarily mean you'll be able to eat gluten again, although it might mean that you may be able to be less strict with your gluten-free diet.

Have you considered the possibility that you might have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) rather than celiac disease? They share many of the same symptoms, the difference being that NCGS does not damage the lining of the small bowel. It is 10x more common than celiac disease. There is no test yet available for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. In view of your genetic profile, I would give it consideration.

Hi, 25f who recently had a endoscopy procedure to diagnose celiac disease. Mum and uncle are both diagnosed celiacs. I've had symptoms over the past year - headaches that have become debilitating and frequent, feeling faint and nauseous with high heart rate, diarrhea and constipation, anemia, and recently my periods have become almost non existent. My doctor sent me a letter yesterday saying this " biopsies from the duodenum show some very mild features that could be in keeping with celiac disease but also could be due to other causes". I am waiting on an appointment to see him in the clinic to discuss this but in the meantime I wanted to check if anyone else has experienced this? I was eating plenty of gluten before my camera test and for the past 2 weeks have completely cut it out of my diet and I'm seeing changes in my bowel movements for the first time in my life! Headaches, dizziness etc are still there but maybe it takes longer for them to go away? Any help would be so appreciated -  I feel so lost in this whole process!!
