I have noticed the gluten free food from the stores is looking beter and better prepared. The last three weeks foods that I choice for my two remaining sons looks and smells very good after heating it up. So, I once again decide to tak a taste of it. The foods are gluten free but, the still contain spices, nuts, or chemicals. Well, after tasting some of them, I gave myself a severe case of nausea. It seems as if my poor stomach and guts still do not want me to put any spices, oils, or chemicals down them yet. I can esily tolerate Olive Oil. But, the rest of my foods, I personally eat are bland in nature. Iodine salt is the only seasoning I use on my food at current time. That and Olive oil, extra virgin. My body still want let me have any spices or chemicals or nuts or tree nuts of any kind, why?

My current diet that I eat is as follows:

Organic Brown Rice with husk still on it, boiled until done.

Organic Brown Lentils, boiled in plain water until done.

Fresh Green Peas, boiled in plain water until done

Organic, free range chicken, no hormons, no steroids, or processing chemicals.

Straw berries, blackberries, blueberries

4 ozs of Organic Milk with every meal.

I eat small meal 6 times a day. Same foods over and over again.

I have been eating this diet for 5 years now and still my stomach cannot tolerate spices, nuts or tree nuts and processinng chemcials, why?

Are you sure you're not lactose or casein important? I'm new to celiac circles buthave been milk intolerant for a long time. Ingesting dairy makes my stomach extra sensitive to everything.

Remove milk for a while. Add sweet potatos to that list, along with carrots. See what happens.

I would love to eat cheese but, the it has caesein in it and, it also has Whey in it. I try a protein drink in the beginning about 5 years ago and ended up in the hospital emergency room. The doctor looked at the drink and, told me it was the Whey and other enzymes my body could not take. So, protein drinks were out of the picture. My current food diet, I had never heard of before, I started on it. Everything was making me sick and nausea. Egg Whites boiled did not agree with me after eating them for 2 - 3 weeks. I to stop those. I was getting hungrier by the day. Then, I did the un-speakable. I prey and held my Bible to my chest and went to sleep that night my current diet was told to me in a dream. It worked out rather good for me. Lots of vitamins, B Complex, zinc, iron, Potassium, etc.... At first I only two in 2 oz of milk per meal after months went by I took more milk in. You see, most people make the mistake and drank the milk with hormones, steriods, and other chemicals in it. Well, I found purely organic milk, non-fat. It has absolutely no chemicals in it. In the beginning of this diet, I lost allot of weight, I went down to 119 pounds at one point. When you are 5 feet 11 inch talk that made me look like a skeleton. But, slowly the weight has come back up to 128 pounds. I have a little more meat on my bones and a little bit of muscle again. My sagging skin has tightened up and looking smooth again. My key was finding out what veggies and can or cannot eat. Experiment with food, do not be afraid. Once you have a list of things that bother you, stop eating them. My bland diet may not work on other but, it works on me.

Root veggies are off my list, cannot tolerate them. Absolutely cannot tolerate food processing chemicals of any kind. At age 30 year old became allergic to all nuts and tree nuts. Too bad, I use to love them.

Several spices can be considered "harsh" because of the fact that they are deemed "cleansing". In theory, they will help "push" food and toxins out.

Nuts are very hard to digest just like seeds are. I was going to mention that they are also very high in fat but you aren't having an issue with olive oil. However, you probably use a lot less olive oil compared to the amount of nuts you were trying to eat.

Is it just an issue of digestion or are these causing an allergic reaction?

Eating nuts and tree nuts, do cause me to have a smothering and hard to breath situation. Up until, I was 30 years old, I was able to tolerate eating these things in small amounts ever so often. Then, about that time, things changed for me. I had several bad attacks 15 to 20 minutes after eating some shelled peanuts. So, I decided to experiment on this situation. Since, I was not able to work, I have experimented with foods of many kinds. I was looking for foods that I could eat and make a list of them. I experimented with different nuts. I found I was not able to eat any of them anymore.

Yes, I do spinkle extra virgin olive oil over my food with every meal, I eat. I have to eat 6 small meals every day all during the night and day time. That works out to 1 meal every 4 hours. Otherwise, my glucose will drop way below the 70 mg/dl mark on my scales or blood meter. Sometimes I go down to 55 mg/dl and that is a very dangerous situation to be in. I also suffer from Hyperinsulinism Hypoglycemia {Low Blood Sugar}. The doctor think it is because, the damage done to my small intestine from non-treatment of my two disease. Malabsorption.

Karl, I am not a dietitian, but eating this diet, day after day, for five years is a concern to me. After five years, any introduction of new foods would be an issue.

I am hoping that others with more information on a healthy balanced diet, can post for you.

To the last poster's comments. About 5 years ago, I was really bad when it come to sickness relief. I was having tons of smothering and choking spells after eating just any foods I liked. The doctors back then were still telling me a bunch of lies. For some reason other than money, they were constantly telling me I was perfectly healthy and it was all in my head. Think positive thoughts they would say. It never worked and I was getting worse with seizures, fainting spells, and severe nausea. I ended up in the emergency room several times in a roll. I prayed with my Bible in my hands. The dream came to me to check my US Government Medical Records in there the dream said was your answer. I ordered a copy of my medical records. It was not easy to get because, they fought me too and nail. There I found references to hypoglycemia test done on me. I also found test suggesting Celiac Disease. The dating of the test ran all the way back to the time leaving military service. This information was kept from me. During my emergency room visits, the doctor ask me how I was treating these condition and diabetes. I did not know I had these diseases and, they ask me why I did not know. I was always told and treated for anxiety and seizures, and having doctors say, its all in your head did not help.

I experimented with foods suggestion from the dietians and on my own. I had to find foods that would help maintain my blood sugar levels and make me feel better without the severe nausea. Celiac Disease people whom have only Celiac eat on kind of diet and, people whom have hypoglycemia have to eat an entirely different diet than those of the Celiac Disease people. This is why I come up with the diet, I currently eat every day. My glucose levels were very out of control. You must understand, I do not have just plain Celiac, I also have Hyperinsulinism as well. Born with both conditions. I hope you see where I am coming from.

You say you can not tolerate casien and whey both of which are milk products. I agree with the other poster that you should try eliminating dairy for a while and see if it helps. If your system could not tolerate casien it can not tolerate milk even if organic. You could try some of the other milks like Rice Milk, but not Rice Dream as that is not gluten free, or a perhaps a hemp milk which is a good source of protein and calcium.

kareng Grand Master

I agree with Ravenwood. If you can't eat whey, you can't eat milk. Take it our for a few weeks and replace it with the hemp milk.

Karl Otto,

I am not trying to be rude, just curious. English is obviously not your first language, are you in another country? I thought I saw you lived in Colorado but maybe I misunderstood. I think sometimes you have misunderstood what people say because of the language barrier. Maybe you are confused on the words whey and casein because you wouldn't drink milk if those were problems.

Karl Otto Explorer

So as we read off the same sheet of music look up these two conditions. Hypoglycemia diet and the Celiac Diet then, compare the two seperate diets. One says you can eat anything without gluten in it. The other one says, you must watch what you eat and to weigh how much sugar both natural and refined sugars in it. For people with Hypoglycemia, even natural foods contain sugars and some of these can be too sweet for the average Hypoglycemic Person. So, we either eliminate them or limit them in our diets. Celiac Disease people, can eat pretty much anything that does not have wheat gluten in it. I have notided that some of you eat diets that contain allot of natural sugars and refined sugars. Please, keep in mind that I have both illnesses going on inside my body at the very same time plus, I also got food allergies to deal with at the very same time. Just in case, you guys do not understand English, either. It must be tuff on you guys, living in and being in a foreigh country and, not grasping the American Language.

Cheese contains concentrated Caesin organic milk contains very small amount of it.

Protein Drinks, contain concentrated amounts of Whey. They also contain other emzyemes.

Most dairy products contain natural sugars and a concentrated amount of these means high sugar contents. This I must watch at all time. Foods containing too high of a glucose count are my enemy. Please keep that in mind. Others people with Celiac Disease also have full blown Diabetes as well.

Quote from doctor's medical handbook: Celiac Disease effect everyone differently. It also depends on whether there are other diseases and allergies that come along with the disease. You must keep in mind that most people but, not all do not just have Celiac Disease by itself. Is that so hard to believe?

This represent my rebutal in this matter..................

kareng Grand Master

This is a Celiac and gluten intolerance forum. Some people do have other health issues to consider as you do.

I don't think anyone was arguing with you. I think most people were trying to be helpful. For instance, you had stated that you couldn't have Whey or casein but then you said that you drank milk. We thought you might not have understood that those are in milk, organic or regular.

Really, your English and spelling were so poor, I can understand Lima Bean

believing that there might be a language barrier. I thought that might be the case, too.

WE can all share experiences and tips on here. What works for me may not work for you but we do not need to argue about it.

I am glad you understand a little bit of what I go through on a daily basis. Think about it this way. What damage could be done to your body if you had Celiac Disease and Hyperinsulinism Hypoglycemia at the same time? Think what damage these disease could and would do to your body and mind if left untreated for 50 years?

Yes, this is a forum for Celiac Disease but, they do not make a forum with people whom have Celiac Disease and other diseases at the very same time. Do you know of any website that deal with multible conditions at the same time. Most health forums deal with just one disease at a time. If someone comes along and only has one disease or disorder fine, no problem. But, if someone comes along and has more than one disease they are just out of look. Right?

Do Celiac Disease people have to test their blood glucose levels at least 6 times a day? Do people whom suffer from Celiac have to watch their natural and refined sugar counts? Do the suffers from Celiac Disease have Neuropathy going on inside their bodies? I do not think so. But, at the same time, I cannot eat breads, pastas, and gravies nor, can I tolerate food processing chemical or, tolerate nuts and tree nuts. Doe this diqualify me from putting my comments out on this forum?

You can certainly comment and ask for help for the Celiac disease. Just be aware that some of our ideas might not work with your additional medical problem. They might work for your boys. People on this forum want to help. Just give thier ideas some consideration.

Thanks for taking a little time on the typing. It is much easier to understand. None of us write in perfect English here.

The forms that vitamin and mineral supplements come in can be important. Bioavailability (i.e., how well they are absorbed) is often sacrificed for the sake of cost and shelf life. The vitamin or mineral you are targeting is always chemically combined with other elements to make them into a dispensable form (such as a powder, liquid or a pill) and to give them some chemical stability for shelf life.
    • llisa
Thank you so much! I will look for that.
    • trents
@llisa, back then when you tried magnesium and it upset your tummy, I'm guessing you were using the most common form of magnesium found on store shelves, namely, magnesium oxide. It has a reputation for having a laxative effect. It is not very well absorbed and so draws a lot of water into the colon, just like the laxative known as milk of magnesia. I'm guessing if you would switch to the "glycinate" form of magnesium you would not have this problem. Magnesium glycinate is absorbed much better. If you can't find magnesium glycinate at your local stores, you can order gluten free brands of it off of Amazon.
    • llisa
I've tried magnesium before. Twice in 2 years. It really upset my stomach. And that was before this celiac disease diagnosis. (Finally, after 2 years of trying to find out what was wrong with me.) I have no idea how sensitive I am. When my stomach was upset, I'd go to my comfort foods: cream of wheat, cheese and crackers, scrambled eggs and toast...so, making myself worse by trying to feel better.  Just got results of biopsy yesterday, so today is first day of trying no gluten and reading that it can be hiding in vitamins and meds. So, I welcome ALL advice and personal experiences. No advice is too basic. I know nothing. Thank you!

Have you considered also supplementing with magnesium and zinc? We usually recommend these two as well. D3, Calcium and Magnesium all important for bone and nerve health.
