What Am I Reacting To?

I've checked and all of the ingredients are completely gluten free (and not processed at facilities that make gluten), but I'm gettting a gurgily stomach ache along with acid reflux. It's not unbearable, but it's no fun. Looking at what I've been eating, I'm pretty sure it's from this because I've felt this way after eating it a few times before. But I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Here are the ingredients:

Quinoa

Almond milk

Strawberries

Walnuts

Cinnamon

Agave Nectar

Water

I make it on the stove in a stainless steal pot (I used to make wheat pasta in it, but it's been cleaned).

Any ideas?

Have you tried each item seperately to see if you react to any of them by themselves? Try each item by itself for a week or so daily and perhaps you can figure out what is causing the problem that way. If all are okay by themselves then try making the mix in a different pot and see if you still react.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to do that.

Also, I've only been gluten-free for about two months. Is it possible that my body is just extra sensitive to certain ingredients because I'm still healing?

I know a lot of people have trouble with Quinoa... Maybe it's that? It would suck if it is but it at least would nail it down... I hope you figure it out!!!

I don't even like to be in the same room with quinoa

Agave nectar bothers me (gerd). It's chemically just fructose or corn syrup, and I can't tolerate much corn syrup either. Could be that?

sometimes almond milk bothers me... i seem to be one of those people- where it doesnt matter what kind of milk it is- it still kind of feels like milk in my body. or it could be the fillers they put in almond milk- like carageenan or whatever else they add.

agave nectar can bother me too, as i cannot digest too much fructose- yet when i eat vegan gluten-free freshly baked items it doesnt bother me- but maybe when the nectar is cooked it changes it.???

and i think Cinnamon can help with digestion and stimulate stomach acid. which is mostly a good natural thing- but maybe it's too much for u right now, idk...

strawberries can be too acidic for some people believe it or not... maybe blueberries & raspberries are better choices... and you could try strawberries later. they're too acidic for me- i only have them once in a blue moon.

some on here have problems with Quinoa- tho i have not. i love it.

good luck!! have u had ANYTHING today with processed corn byproducts- like gum or breath mints??? those will give me the gurgles.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! And no, I didn't have anything like gum/mints prior to feeling sick. I had felt it before after eating the quinoa dish, so I'm pretty sure it's from that. Haven't eaten much since and feel kinda gross.

I've had strawberries and almond milk on their own before and don't remember them bothering me, but I'll test them again this week. Nuts don't bother me either (knock on wood!). Once I feel better, I think I'm going to try the whole dish without the agave nectar. If I still get sick then I'll know it's probably the quinoa.

Sigh.

I just have to remember that this is all a process and I have to be patient while I figure everything out.

There was something posted here a while ago about some strawberries growing in wheat straw. That could be it. I suppose the almond milk or walnuts could be cross contaminated. For that matter, even the quinoa could be. Perhaps you should call the manufacturer to be sure.

Hello there, it's been ages since I signed into this account. Wanted to see if there were other celiac patients that have gone through perimenopause/menopause and chose to take estrogen or wear an estrogen patch? I know all of our bodies are different but curious how it went or is going for you. Thanks so much.

I believe I've seen them at Costco still in the shells (in the frozen seafood area), which might be a safe way to go.

A dedicated rack is a great idea if everyone in the house understands and supports the idea, and just to clarify, I didn't recommend just wiping the rack down, but washing it well in soap and hot water.

Thanks, I appreciate you getting back to me.  Sometimes the retailers don't have content info on products they sell and they have rewrapped them with no ingredients list. Guess I'll stick to prepackaged medalions with all the info.
