Celiac Haiku of the Day

So I saw this website called CELIAC BITES (love THAT name!) and the guy posted this Celiac Haiku and I thought some of you guys would find it clever and perhaps wish to compose one of your own. (Maybe it's just the English Prof. in me? )

You know the format--

1st line 5 syllables

2nd line 7 syllables

3rd line 5 syllables

Oh, well.... sorry...I did not know that as I wasn't a member yet.

I just thought it was clever....okay, then never mind. :( wow...now, I feel like a dope.

No! No! Sorry! That was a rather abrupt post. My son was trying to explain in minute detail a fix he had made on his car, with hand gestures. I'm supposed to look like I understand it. But I am glad when a teenager wants to talk to his mom.

I thought you might like to see our previous attempts. We should do ones about Celiac!

I like Haikus because they are short! :)

I will ruminate on one about gluten & be back later.

Harpgirl Explorer

I saw a similar thread on a literature site I use to frequent, but they took the last line of the previous poem to make as their first. That might be fun :) I'll try.

I'll settle for rice

But not the Krispies with malt

because they "pop" wrong. :P

I'm not doing well, here! I tend more to Dr. Suess!

Gluten

I do not like it in a bread

I do not like it in a bed,

I do not like it on my threads,

I do not like it, it will make me dead!

As a frequent reader of Dr Seuss at bedtime, I love this!!

Here's my try:

One speck of gluten

Shaky, legs tingle, brain fog

Love this idea as it's something my work colleagues and I do via email about events at work. Here's my attempt:

Whole foods every day,

No more joint or muscle pain,

I am happier.

Illness,pain, fear, spacey head-

This one has nothing to do with celiac, but my one year old just stood up too fast under the table and bumped his head HARD!

High squeal in my ear

poor baby bumped his noggin

my eardrum is dull

I'm not smart enough for Haiku's, but you guys are hilarious.

vitamin D levels in obsessive-compulsive disorder "The number of participants with vitamin D insufficient ... and vitamin D deficiency ... in the OCD group was statistically significantly higher than the control group... and also the number of participants whose vitamin D levels were in the normal range ... in the OCD group was statistically significantly lower than the control group." Low vitamin D iscommon in Celiac Disease patients. Also no lithium in drinking water (bottled water) or in areas with low ground water Lithium contributes to anxiety. Association between naturally occurring lithium in drinking water and suicide rates The EPA calculated a provisional oral reference dose (p-RfD) of 2 μg/kg-day using the Provisional Peer-Reviewed Toxicity Value   https://www.epa.gov/system/files/documents/2023-11/ucmr5-technical-fact-sheet-lithium-in-drinking-water.pdf Should we all take a bit of lithium?! Raising my vitamin D to 80 ng/ml and taking 5 mg a day of Lithium Orotate for a few month helped me.

After 3 months without gluten he will have healed and his blood tests will be negative. That does not mean "not celiac, ok to eat wheat, rye and barley again.  It does mean the diet is working.  Many of those recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease are often deficient in vitamin D and other vitamins and minerals.  It's a side effect called Malabsorption.  Get his blood checked for 25(OH)D level to be sure.
    • Wheatwacked
Yeah, but that's probably not where you want to eat, anyway.

Anyone try this? No matter what the brand, probiotics have ALWAYS made me break out bad. I am hesitant to try this simply for that fact, but I ordered a 3 month supply. Any input would be appreciated. Wish me luck.
    • Wheatwacked
@llisa, I am curious to know how much vitamin D you are taking and what is your plasma level in nmol/L or ng/ml what the doctor's target 25(OH)D is. Hopefully with the gluten free diet you'll be able to feel better.
