I recently switched a prescription of mine and was concerned about gluten. I'm in my 2nd week of being gluten-free so I realize I'm not 100% yet but I'm doing my best. When I called the manufacturer, the person I spoke to was not very helpful. He gave me a very "legal, we're trying to cover our butts" answer but was never able to tell me if I my medicine is safe to take or not. He said it does not contain any gluten products but when I asked about trace amounts or cross contamination, he said "We cannot guarantee that it didn't come into contact with something that may contain gluten." He also said I should talk to my doctor about it. Umm, if the manufacturer can't tell me the answer, how the heck would my doctor know?!? Does anyone have any advice on this? I asked the pharmacist (who told me I wouldn't die over it so I should be fine) but I'm not totally satisfied with any of those answers. Should I try to call the manufacturer (Bayer) again and talk to someone else? I can't find anything online about it.

You may want to inquire if any of us take that particular drug without problems. Chances are if there are no gluten ingredients it is going to be fine.

The drug is Beyaz w/Folate by Bayer. I know it's relatively new on the market. At least they were able to tell me that there are no gluten ingredients in the drug.

I'd take it with no hesitation. CC during the process of making the drug is unlikely because the HUGE majority of medications do not contain gluten. As for any ingredient being contaminated, that's a chance you take with any product you ingest. It's just the way it is.

Awesome, that puts my mind at ease! This forum has saved my butt so many times...what would I do without you great knowledgeable gluten-free people?!?

      i really like Breyers ice cream and it used to have a label saying gluten free? is it still gluten free does anyone know i was wondering if the French Vanilla Black Cherry Napoleon  are still gluten free the label not on it anymore

      they gone down alot since my diagnosis .  the ttg test was done in a hospital it still not in the normal range 2 yrs later. the last time went up by the one before a little. maybe it just takes more time really trying to be careful i need to look at everything i eat to make sure

      After my 3 year old daughter's diagnosis, we all got tested. My 5 year old son also came back positive with number 12x the upper limit.  We will confirm with another tTG and the other 2 tests in the panel.  He has zero symptoms that I have noticed. Maybe occasionally vomiting. He does have asthma. He's kind of an a**hole sometimes but also he's 5. He has SO much energy. Like miles and miles of biking, running, gymnastics. Never stops. Eats great, normal growth. It was comparing my daughter to him that made me push to figure out what was wrong with her!  Is it possible for a tTG test to just be totally wrong?

      I'm heading to the UK for a vacation the end of this month on a tour with Road Scholar. I haven't been out of the US since my diagnosis so I'm a little concerned about exposure to gluten during my travels. Most of our meals are provided by the tour. Either the hotels we are staying at, or places we will visit. Road Scholar is aware of my dietary needs as well. Any helpful hints about navigating the restaurants in England is greatly appreciated. Also are there any medications out there to help mitigate the effects of exposure to gluten? Thanks in advance.
