Ciao, Veronica. I just finished posting this under the other Italy thread a moment ago but want to add here, too, how much I love Italy (we currently live in Canada) and how wonderful it is to find great gluten-free restaurants, etc. I feel safe eating there because people are so aware and knowledgable.

We will be in Venice in a few weeks. Can you recommend gluten-free gelato places and restaurants? We will be staying in Mestre this time as we need to be close to the airport but will be spending time in Venice as well. We are very familiar with Venice. I am also trying to find a massage therapist as I have chronic pain. It would help to have a massage the day before we fly back to Canada. So far no one has responded to my inquiries.

Ciao,

sure I will give you names of restaurants and gelato places. I also would like to tell you that if you go to the pahrmacy you will find a lots of good items, such as pasta ( the best is asolane brand, coookies and snacks ). The only problem is that they are a little expensive for you, because of the dollar change. As far as a massage therapist I will try to give you some name.

I will get back to you tonight

Ciao

Ciao Veronica,

My name is Alyssa and I am going to Italy in 9 days! I've heard that Venice is one of the worst parts of Italy for a celiac to find safe foods to eat... is this true? I don't speak italian (although I have learned the phrase "Io sono celiaca" and 'senza glutine per favore" as well as various other menial phrases (e.g. grazie). I'm a student that will be backpacking through Venice for a couple of days.

I had read that everyone is super aware of celiac, so I wasn't planning on searching out restaurants/ places where I can eat ahead of time... I was just going to say that phrase and wing it.... I've read that polenta and risoto are staples of Venice and that those are both gluten-free...

Grazie!!!!

Ciao Alyssa,

Not sure whether Veronica is still here - I have not seen her post for ages. I've now been to Venice twice since gluten free (at least ten times before that). We now go twice a year. Venice is not bad for finding gluten free but I suggest you do your research first. Venice is very touristy so most people will understand English. However, whenever I travel to a foreign country, I take restaurant cards along in each language and have it taken to the chef. Grom has gluten free gelato but it is not gluten free everywhere, even some of the fruit flavours, so just be cautious with that. The vendors will tell you, though. I had gluten free pizza in November. If you go to higher-end places they can prepare things for you - just be clear on the cross contamination bit. And yes, risotto and polenta are usually safe - still ask to be sure. It depends on the stock they use (i.e. purchased or homemade). Go to the Rialto Market to pick up fresh fruit and veg. Or another market or even supermarket.

Other parts of Italy are definitely better known for their food than Venice (because it is so touristy and tourists unfortunately are catered to) but there are excellent spots to eat. In what area are you staying?

Here is a link to the skin version, and the only ingredients are "chicken": https://www.perduefarms.com/en-US/perdue-bone-in-chicken-thighs-pack/60625.html There should also be ingredients and any allergens listed there on the package.

Welcome to the forum, @BeeBarnard! I really can't imagine how either skin or skinless chicken thighs could not be gluten free unless one or the other were treated with some seasoning ingredient that was not gluten free. Do the product labels indicate any additional ingredients added to the meat? Is your daughter a super sensitive celiac? If not, the amount of gluten cross contamination found in seasonings is usually inconsequential.

HI, My daughter was recently diagnosed with Celiac and I would like to make her some chicken soup (she's got he flu). I found all gluten free ingredients but I'm having trouble with the chicken. I purchased Purdue bone-in chicken thighs from BJ's Wholesale Club. Purdue says that they are gluten free but the BJ's website says no. It seems like skin-on chicken is not, but skinless is. Does this seem accurate? Thank you

They had other appies to choose from so all's well that ends well. The Costco scallops are excellent but 4 x the price. Thanks!

Hello there, it's been ages since I signed into this account. Wanted to see if there were other celiac patients that have gone through perimenopause/menopause and chose to take estrogen or wear an estrogen patch? I know all of our bodies are different but curious how it went or is going for you. Thanks so much.
