Dermatitis Herpetiformis

Is a dignosis of dermatitis herpetiformis enough to clinch a celiac diagnosis? Would an endoscopic biopsy and blood testing really be necessary if the skin biopsy was positive? I feel much much better off gluten, but would like a "real" diagnosis for the benefit of my siblings and my children in regards to their medical history. Thanks in advance!

That is a " real" diagnosis of Celiac. It only occurs in Celiac as far as I know.

"A skin biopsy is sufficient to confirm the diagnosis of DH. DH is the skin manifestation of celiac disease."

I have a question about this. I will post a picture of my hands but I have this painful itchy blistery looking rash...does it look similar to yours? I am in the process of being diagnosed right now but don't see my Derm until Jan 6th. I'm afraid my rash will be gone by then because it usually comes for a wk or two then goes away for a month or two.. Did they do your biopsy when you had a rash or do you know if they can do it when it is not there.. If you don't know the answers that is fine just curious! Thanks :)

Sorry about that disgustingly large photo lol. I didn't know it would show up so big!

I have similar looking hands at the moment. Have you been on the DH thread on this forum?

If you haven't please take the time to read. If you have then it would be worth you

reposting to the DH thread.

Have you been officially diagnosed? Others as well as myself will be interested.

I started at the ankles and my (undiagnosed) DH has worked itself up - ankles up to now chest / upper arm

and lately my wrists and hands. I am hoping that it has worked itself out so to speak.

All of the regular DH tread members would be interested in your history.

Apology if you have posted and I missed it.

Diana

I get a similar looking rash on my elbows and knees. It comes and goes, and while I've found a few things that seem to trigger it (vitamin supplements), I don't know for sure what it is or what causes it.

That looks a lot like my DH looked, but it's pretty hard to diagnose from a picture.

Welcome Connie Smitj,  Did you have a follow up test to see if the treatment for H Pylori was successful?  It's possible to catch it again, especially from a partner.  When I contracted it a second time my wife was tested and was positive for two of the bacteria in H Pylori.

Welcome to the forum, @Connie Smitj! Can you give us a little more history about your celiac journey? How long ago were you diagnosed and how long have your been gluten free? Do you have other symptoms besides quick onset of hunger after eating and gut pain? How long have these symptoms being happening?
    • Connie Smitj
I eat a gluten-free diet but hunger pains start within an hour of eating dinner. I  had h pylori infection before I was diagnosed. Occasionally I’ll have bouts of pain. Could it come back or is it just celiac disease?

Scott, am I missing something? For the TTG-IGA normal is anything 3 or less and his score less than 2. I think that one is in normal range. @Brown42186, if the GI doc is not interested in doing an endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining based on the elevated TTG-IGG I would request a repeat on the bloodwork now that you have resumed gluten consumption again.

Interesting for sure. Have you heard of potential cross reactivity to casein (dairy), corn, milket, iats, rice, and yeast?
