This makes me crazy --as it is all too familiar (see my posts)--and I fear, it goes on more often than we will ever know.

Sadly, this is what they do--give antibiotics for every damn thing. I had similar experiences. I would often just toss the script away, knowing full well, it was not the answer to the problem I was having.

(this is also why we have more gut issues--unbalanced gut bacteria)

How do these people (and I use the term loosely) sleep at night and live with themselves? Seriously. Do they teach arrogance and cruelty in U.S. med schools? This pathetic story reminds me yet again how fortunate I am to have the doctor I have. Good listener, empathetic, compassionate and humble.

Man, I really feel for you. If a doctor told me that, I just know I would have a difficult time not crying right there in the office. Either that or body checking him against the wall. OK, that is a bit much, I know...

When you're bent over in pain in the doctor's office, the doctor comes in, looks at you, and asks cheerily "And how are we today!".

I think my answer alone caused her to test me for more than coeliac disease.

The best worst I've ever had a doctor say to me was from a Neurologist.

"Could be a brain tumor, could be a panic attack, won't know til the 2nd MRI" and then walks out of the room.

I paid $300 bucks for that (by the way, that's all he said to me) - turned out to be a lesion.

They've never heard of a WHEAT ALLERGY? Plenty of celiacs are allergic to wheat too. Sorry you didn't get help. That's insane. I might try making an appointment with my Dr. and asking for an inhaler.

Oh geez. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience; however, the thought of the reaction when you told her to google it does make me giggle.

I'm sorry, but there are a lot of medical professionals that DESERVE to have their patients resort to The Google and toss it in their faces.

I know they're educated, but to tell you that it only affects digestion is quite ridiculous. Would it hurt for him to say "We'll check you for _____"?

Then again they probably wouldn't check you for the right thing and you'd have to end up getting re-tested, like myself did

I went to the Dr. for a chronic ear infection that had come and gone for over a year. The Dr. wasn't my regular Dr. She was out sick. He tested my blood sugar, told me I had diabetes and sent me on my unmerry way. I was like... Wha? Didn't prescribe anything for me to take. Didn't tell me to test my blood sugar. Come back for a followup visit. Nothing. Just said that he had to go.

I was furious! Was in tears, talking to my husband. He called the Dr. Said something like, "How could you just tell her she had diabetes and then send her out with nothing?" The Dr. then replied that he hadn't told me that I had diabetes at all!

Confused then, I made another appointment with my regular Dr. because the ear infection hadn't cleared. She said she would do another test for diabetes. She told me to follow the diet I had been on when I had gestational diabetes. I did. Came back in a month for a fasting test and also a 24 hour urine collection. She told me I didn't have diabetes.

Eventually I wound up in the ER while on vacation due to the complications of diabetes out of control. Yep. I did in fact have it.

And now my daughter has pre-diabetes. She wound up at the gastroenterologist because her stomach won't tolerate the diabetes med she was put on. He told me of a couple of supplements to put her on then told me to look on the Internet and put her on anything I saw that would work for insulin resistance. Say what? How do I even know that what I see on the Interent is valid? Oh he did say more than that. That was just the part that threw me.

I go into the walk-in clinic (Canadian and had no family doc) complaining about pain and tingling in my hands and feet. I was sent for orthotics, nothing else.

Went to dermatologist for ugly, itchy, weepy rash, particularly around my midsection and chest. Doctor walks in and takes one look. Conversation goes as follows:

Doc: Nasty lookin' rash. Bet it itches.

Me: Uh huh. What is it?

Doc: *shrugs shoulders* Dunno. Here's some cream. Probably won't help, but that's all I can give you.

Me: *boggles* How about all my allergies? (I show him my RAST test that shows I'm allergic to trees and weeds, molds and mites, grasses, etc. - not just allergic but off the charts)

Doc: Has nothing to do with it. See ya.

I know now for sure it was DH.

I was in the hospital in March for an intractable migraine.

Had been there 3 days, severe pain, many tests run, lots of narcotics.

the ...maybe.... 29 year old on call resident who was an idiot from the moment I checked in ordered a

pregnancy test.

When the nurse told me,

I sat up in the bed, yelled at the top of my lungs,

"You tell him to read my (expletive) chart! I had a hysterectomy in 2003, (expletive)!! I'm not paying for THAT!!"

(even funnier, I'm on the financial aid program, and wasn't paying for ANY of it...we all got a kick out of my refusal to pay)

I also filed a complaint with the hospital. I mean, seriously. READ THE CHART.

I walked into one of those doctor centers for poor people two years ago for a nasty flu. The doc n I got to talk and I asked her, if the medicine was glutenfree. She asked, if I had celiac. I said, yes, and that it was not heal able. She said, yes it is. I said, no it isn't. She said, yes it is, they have things you can take for it. 8-(

The migraine story made me recall..a few years ago, hubs took me to the ER for a vicious migraine, complete with vomiting and light flashes. I have on sunglasses (it is night time now ) and I just wish someone would rip my head off so it will stop. She is having trouble finding a vein to put in an IV to hydrate me and ends up butchering my arms, finally deciding to put it in my hand.

I wait and wait and wait; I'm crying it's so bad.

Please, just give me some migraine medication, I beg.

I cannot have NSAIDs ( ulcers) or Tylenol with codeine (allergy). (and this is ALL in my chart already and I filled out yet another five forms when I checked in at triage, even though I cannot see) I tell her: I have a serious stomach issue and NSAIDS make me nauseous and cause stomach pain and terrible bowel issues. I'm already nauseous enough (did not know it was celiac disease yet)

After an HOUR, she comes back, says the doctor is giving me a "special, powerful migraine medication". I notice she was not happy about her exchange with him at the nurse's desk. I am laying there, waiting for it to start working...nothing.

He finally comes over (because he cannot release me without at least looking at me, I guess )and I ask "What did you give me?

The migraine meds usually work right away." He says "I gave you something better." Pets me on the back.

The next day, I am in such stomach distress, I look on the internet to see what miracle drug he gave me: Ketorolac..... NSAID!!

I had stomach pain, diarrhea and bleeding for a week.

I wrote a letter of complaint and the head of the ER told me in a letter "DR. M....is visiting us from (insert foreign country here). English is his second language. This is a teaching hospital. He has gone on to another hospital, but I will tell him of your adverse reactions to the medication."

My father is peeing blood. So mom takes him to the ER. A doc examines him (sort of) but no X-Rays, no ultrasound -- nothing. The doc tells him they don't know what's wrong with him but they want him to come back the next day for X-Rays of the lungs.

My DH goes to the dr for a bad cough. He had had it for a couple weeks and it was not going away.

Dr examines him, talks to him and leaves the room. Dh calls me on the cell and says "Viagra isn't for coughs, is it??". I told him to grab his cough Rx and get out of there!

That dr must be getting some kind of kickback because he tried to get him on Viagra, cholesterol meds AND diabetes meds. He does not have high cholesterol. He does not have diabetes. He doesn't need the other stuff either. At least he got his cough medicine.
