Aurobindo Amoxicillin

So on Tuesday I had a tooth extraction and proceeded afterward to the store to fill my prescriptions for an antibiotic and painkiller. All I could think about was how it was starting to hurt and how much I wanted to be at home with my lortab, it didn't dawn on me to check on the gluten free status of my antibiotic. (I already knew this pharmacy is safe for lortab.) So I get home and take my medication and don't really think about it again. Well that night I start getting super dizzy suddenly and just feel weird. I figured it was the lortab and went to bed. The next morning I felt much better, and since I was working didn't take any painkillers, just the amoxicillin. Again, within a few hours I was feeling weird again and by early afternoon the spouts of vertigo were so bad I didn't feel like I could drive. Suddenly it dawned on me around 4ish that it felt like the fog I'd spent years in. I quickly jumped online and couldn't verify that it was gluten free and couldn't call the company because the only phone number I could find was international. I quit taking it, got a new prescription I filled where I knew it was safe and have felt fine since. I've examined everything I've eaten since then and the only thing I can narrow this down to is the medication so I just thought I'd give a heads up on it. The manufacturer is Aurobindo and it's the 500 mg capsules. I'm certain this contains gluten as there is absolutely nothing else that I've eaten or taken that would coincide with when my symptoms started and cleared up.

The Aurobindo Pharm website states that the amoxicillin 875 mg is gluten free. My phar at CVS also stated the same.

Unsure, if you have a Nima you can do what I did with the Fish Mox I was using (could not afford the pharmacy one). I opened the capsule mixed it in a disposable vile with some distilled water then put a bit of the paste in the nima to check if it was gluten free.

-_- I was on the stuff for 7 month for and infected abscess before I got a Candida overgrowth, then got off it.....now dealing with that overgrowth, and letting the abscess on the dead tooth just go its course (income does not even cover housing and food so surgery is not a option for me)

1. They still charge too much money. 2. I have a active infections that needs more then just a extraction, 3. Read the reviews......4. for a a bit under $800 I can get the tooth removed the infection removed, and a follow up implant in place from a professional dentist (read the reviews these are students practicing on you at those schools) already quoted.....I am just waiting to get that money somehow. >.< I have a small saving funds from my bakery I started this last week for it actually.

Good, I'm glad you have a plan. The dental school here is supposed to be good, just hard to get into.

I realize this is years later, but I had a horrible reaction to this drug too, even though I've never had a problem with amoxicillin.  Intense, crazy chest pain (heartburn) that I haven't had since being gluten-free. I was on the 875mg dose and as soon as I started a different abx it went away....

Keep in mind that you might also have a dietary sensitivity to something else. Get into the habit of reading ingredients lists.

I would avoid gluten at all cost. Sometimes there will be no noticeable damage, but it is still causing an autoimmune response that will manifest in some way or another eventually. Throwing up from a macaroon sounds like something other than celiac disease also.

Thanks, Scott! I appreciate you looking that up for me. Perhaps that will be good enough for someone but not for me...super sensitive dermatitis herpetiformis here. I don't take any chances that I can avoid. ~Pam

Welcome to the forum, Liamclarke! We have reports from time to time of people whose celiac disease seems to go into remission. Often, however, it doesn't last. There is also the question of whether or not symptoms or lack of them tell the whole story. Many of us are "silent" celiacs who have very minor or no symptoms when consuming gluten yet slow, insidious damage is still going on in the gut. The only way to tell for sure in your case would be to be retested after going back on gluten for a period of weeks or months such that sufficient time has elapsed for antibody levels in the blood to build up to detectable levels. And I would certainly advise you to do that and not take anything for granted.

I was diagnosed with celiac and basically had stunted growth because my body wasn’t taking In nutrients which may explain the weight loss I would take this seriously and get tested
