Just last night since being gluten-free for a couple of weeks, I was telling DH how much better I feel!! Today I got some beef jerky but they were out of my regular kind do I bought teriyaki not even thinking about it... Sure enough after I ate half of the bag it occurred to me that I hadn't checked the ingredients and there it was(from the soy sauce) I wanted to kick myself! I read up online a but and picked up some digestive enzymes so am taking those... Anything else (aside from Drinking lots of water) I should do? I just don't want to feel crappy all weekend ):

A sort of gluten morning after pill... hmmm.

Well, I must have glutened myself also this past Thursday because I felt like I got beaten with a 2x4 this weekend and am just now beginning to feel better. Hopefully you didn't go through anything like that!

For me I start to feel uneasy and anxious, then the gut pain starts and I just need to take it very easy until it starts to feel better. During this time I'm like a wounded animal... a fight or flight state of emotion and not very nice to be around! So I usually retreat to my man cave or go to a happy place like a quiet section of a home improvement store and browse. Weird, but it works. It's a combination of rest and doing something relatively passive to take my mind off the pain.

The leader of a celiac support group I attend said "thank God for symptoms." Without symptoms you would probably just totally destroy your gut and be none the wiser until it was way too late. So that makes sense, but I still would like to find some more and better ways of treating symptoms when they occur because they can be pretty discouraging.

The next time I am about to stupidly ingest some gluten I think instead I will just ask around and find someone about to fire off a big cannon and go stand in front of it with my gut. It will probably have about the same effect!

I haven’t had any noticeable reactions to salt so I will continue using it. I think I just freaked out when I realized this but it doesn’t cause me any discomfort- so thanks!

Ok, thanks. I'm so glad to hear you are in the hands of a dermatologist. I hope he/she has given you 1) a diagnosis; and 2) a plan of care with a couple of options so that you have buy-in and comfort with it. I have some ideas, but not having seen the abscesses or you in person, it doesn't really make sense for me to kind of ... speculate further. But your question was regarding gluten, and you've gotten a couple of other follow up questions and answers that are good, including the idea to keep a food diary. Let us know if we can help further or answer any other questions. I'm sorry you're going through this, it sounds very painful.

@plumbago They appear as boils. They are big, like the size of a nickel--quarter, and they hurt when I touch them. I have gone to the same derm for them over and over and she thinks my body is colonized by a bacteria, but even after using hibiclens all over my body they come back.

Welcome to the gluten-free community! It’s great to have you here. While gluten sensitivity or celiac disease can indeed cause skin issues, such as dermatitis herpetiformis (a blistering rash), abscesses in areas like the lower buttocks or thighs are less commonly linked directly to gluten. However, chronic abscesses could be a sign of an underlying immune or inflammatory condition, which might be worth discussing with a healthcare professional. Some people with gluten-related disorders also experience secondary issues like bacterial overgrowth or immune dysregulation, which could potentially contribute to recurrent infections. It’s always a good idea to explore all possible causes, including gluten sensitivity, with your doctor. In the meantime, keeping a food and symptom diary might help identify any patterns. Wishing you the best on your health journey!

You say you have gluten sensitivity? Have you been officially diagnosed with celiac disease or do you refer to NCGS?
