Has anyone eaten at Wendy's lately? If so what did you get? I'm hitting the road with my Dad tomorrow for the day and we'll need to grab a quick lunch. I'm also overly cautious with eating out, I hate to be sick. But my Dad will need to eat and he refuses to eat in front of me. It doesn't bother me lol but he can't stand to do that. Hope someone has some ideas!

I usually get a baked potato (unsliced) with butter and sour cream and a small side of chilli with cheese, sour cream and hot sauce. Several salads are gluten free...see below.

I did peek at their list and the baked potato was what caught my eye! I do love a good baked potato!!

What I noticed at some of the Wendy's is say "allergic to wheat'. Even the ones who don't speak a lot of English seem to understand. One of them said not to have the cheese today because they had a reason to thnk it wasn't safe that day. She couldn't explain it but I think someone dropped a bun or something. I get the chilli and put it on the potato. The butter and sour cream are pre-packaged. Tell the allergy so they don't open the potatoe with thier gluteny fingers.

A helpful, local manager told me that they might slice some gluten items and then slice the potato.

I've only been gluten free for 3 weeks now and went to Wendy's twice. The firt time I just got a baked potato with butter. That night I had a reaction, but couldn't figure out why. The second time I got chili and brought my own gluten free corn bread and used their butter on it. Had the same reaction. After going to their web site, I noticed that there was an asterisk after the butter spread, noting that it contained maltodextrin. Has anyone else had a reaction to maltodextrin? It seems like some say it's okay, and others say not. I'm afraid to eat anything with it in now. I've noticed several items in the grocery store clearly marked "gluten free", but still contain maltodextrin.

Welcome to the forum!

Maltodextrin is a safe ingredient and is found in many foods.

When we're new to eating gluten-free, our bodies can be pretty wonky and we can seemingly react to most anything and everything.

I haven't eaten at my local wendy's because I saw the cook make burgers, then add chicken to salads. He cut the breaded chicken for a salad and then the grilled chicken on the same counter with the same cutter. I know I could ask to change gloves etc, but I'm worried how the salads were prepared even before the chicken. Has anyone had success with a salad from there?

I can't have the chili because I'm allergic to tomato.

I'm so glad you had a good experience! Those are always very nice :)

Welcome Connie Smitj,  Did you have a follow up test to see if the treatment for H Pylori was successful?  It's possible to catch it again, especially from a partner.  When I contracted it a second time my wife was tested and was positive for two of the bacteria in H Pylori.

Welcome to the forum, @Connie Smitj! Can you give us a little more history about your celiac journey? How long ago were you diagnosed and how long have your been gluten free? Do you have other symptoms besides quick onset of hunger after eating and gut pain? How long have these symptoms being happening?
    • Connie Smitj
I eat a gluten-free diet but hunger pains start within an hour of eating dinner. I  had h pylori infection before I was diagnosed. Occasionally I’ll have bouts of pain. Could it come back or is it just celiac disease?

Scott, am I missing something? For the TTG-IGA normal is anything 3 or less and his score less than 2. I think that one is in normal range. @Brown42186, if the GI doc is not interested in doing an endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining based on the elevated TTG-IGG I would request a repeat on the bloodwork now that you have resumed gluten consumption again.

Interesting for sure. Have you heard of potential cross reactivity to casein (dairy), corn, milket, iats, rice, and yeast?
