Aching Legs, Etc- Mystery Solved?!

Hi all!

I've had a rough couple months!

In December, I was diagnosed with clostridium dificile (bacterial overgrowth/infection) after taking clindamycin for a tooth infection.

My recovery took about 3 weeks. I was finally off meds on Christmas day.

Since THEN, I've experienced almost daily severe anxiety attacks, and in recent weeks, the following:

Sores at corners of mouth. Would go away and re-appear.

Aching joints, mostly my right ankle/foot area. Sometimes left. And occasional soreness in calves/thighs/groin area as well. A light cramping sometimes. Sometimes aches in my wrist.

Feeling of weakness/numbness in my right leg and hand.

A few miscolored circular pinkish rash areas under each arm. Not DH. maybe 1/2 inch in diameter and barely raised. Starting to "dry" out.

Almost daily stomach aches (I can usually plan for it... around 5-6pm) and some reflux.

Whaddya all think??

I've been gluten-free since yesterday's breakfast and today has been almost without aches. A few on and off in my left leg but NOTHING in comparison! No weakness today, no stomach issues today...

If you want testing you need to be eating gluten. Post c.diff infection you need probiotics, perhaps for ever. you also sound multi vitamin def.

good luck

You might want to rule out Lyme disease...although this time of year that may not be an issue.??

I was on probiotics for awhile. GI everything has seemed to have resolved for the most part. I know I need to eat gluten to be tested. This is just a test run to see how I'd feel. Rather see if there are results before I spend $$$$ on more testing.

Gluten withdrawal is no different than any withdrawal from any other additive substance like opiates or nicotine. In case you aren't aware of it, wheat has additive properties similar to opiates. So, there is a dependency that develops. When you take the additive substance away, the body cries out for it in some way but if you continue to deprive the body of it, the body adjusts and the craving subsides. The insomnia may be how your body is telling you, "I'm used to this and I want it again. I'm upset." But if you stick with resisting the crying out long enough, the body will achieve a new homeostasis that doesn't need wheat. 2000 calories daily from white rice concerns me as white rice is...

I understand the weight loss, as I’ve had Celiac for 5 years, and frequent flares. I’ve been researching supplements for those who aren’t absorbing, anyone have suggestions?

Hi Trents  Many thanks for the response. My average intake ranges from 3000 - 4000 calories per day. In regards to carbohydrates, the majority of my calories are coming from white rice. I eat around 2000+ calories of white rice per day, so definitely not low in carbohydrates. I was thinking of adding sweet potatoes to the diet. Yes, fats are low, looking into it. I've seen people complain about the same issue in 3-4 threads, but there hasn't been any solution. I was thinking of eating the same diet as stated above and each day, eat small pieces of toast to see, by how many hours my sleep improves.  What makes you think gluten widrawal would subside? Is this insomnia happening...
