  1. Thanks, everyone. I was feeling alone and "abandoned" by the system. I don't think the feeling of being abandoned is gone, but it is somehow comforting to know I'm not alone. If only my luck at achieving something so rare had only instead expressed itself with me winning the lottery. lol
  2. Curiously, I got a gift of homemade goodies from extended family, with them knowing full well I couldn't eat it, and they gave me that disclaimer (cookies) and that I would likely share with the others in my house. But then there was other homemade stuff in there too (chocolates), which they figured I could eat, but I knew there was no way I was going to...
  3. Thanks, Posterboy. I really question the accuracy of my diagnosis as it does not at all fit the pattern of SK, but almost to a T fit the pattern of DH. Test says otherwise, though. Perhaps I have both and was unfortunate to have had the biopsy done where SK was more dominant. I may never know officially, but that won't stop me from doing...
  4. I actually found another page describing SK today, and it is described as generally not itchy, and does not go away on its own. Both those descriptions do not match my supposed SK, not to mention they barely resemble any pictures of SK online, but look exactly like many instances of DH. Sigh.
  5. So I've had about 2 weeks over Christmas and New Years to wrap my head around what I learned at the doctor's office after my biopsy results came back. Before I get to that, I am happily 3 weeks gluten free again after my gluten challenge. The changes I noticed within days of completely eliminating gluten. Intense itching diminishing, bowel movements...
  6. Yes, I saw that. However Shantel did revive the thread and her observations stated that was still the case with Campbells, which I have experienced differently. I agree, ALWAYS read the label every time you buy something. Even if it's the same old familiar brand. Something I've learned from being in an allergy family for a long time. Manufacturers can...
  7. I had my DH biopsy done yesterday, and I was very impressed with my GP. It was obvious he researched what to do, if he didn't already know, and I did not need to rely on any material I brought along regarding how and where to obtain a sample. We found a site with active lesions (my right calf), and identified a spot adjacent to the lesions. Other than feeling...
  8. I don't know if they label differently in the USA, or if the product is sourced from a different line and/or follows a different recipe, but here is a picture of the product I buy at Costco in Canada. Note on the bottom left of the front label, it states "gluten free" and I have no issues eating it. They also have a Chunky Sausage and Gumbo soup marked "gluten...
  9. Thanks, cyclinglady. I have read your story on here. I went gluten free immediately on the advice of my youngest son's allergist too. Honestly though, I think if I relied on testing, and it all came back negative (which I suspect it would have), then I would still be in the same boat, not knowing that I have Celiac. I can't see my GP not being willing...
  10. This has been my experience in Canada as well. Within one week, and usually in a few days. I imagine this would be similar in most western countries.
  11. I'm about 4 weeks into my gluten challenge, and just visited the lab. I am certain I have DH, and so I am remaining on gluten until I see my doctor next week, to go over the blood test results. I have also requested that he perform a biopsy at my appointment, and an appropriate length of time was booked for me, with the notation that it was specifically for...
  12. Also, be aware that you could have gluten in your diet for the required length of time, at it could still come back negative. From your perspective, that should mean nothing. Unfortunately, from the perspective of many in the medical community, that means to them you do not have Celiac, and they stop there. You know your body best. You need to be your...
  13. Thanks. Anxiously awaiting my appointment now.
  14. About two weeks in to my gluten challenge. I guess you could say it's going well. It has gotten easier psychologically to eat foods containing gluten, and I have managed to include significant gluten in each meal, each day. Reaction in terms of my suspected DH has been as expected, and the rash and itchiness is back in full force. Some Googling...
  15. I've read on this forum that a full Celiac panel should include these tests: TTG IGA TTG IGG DGP IGA DGP IGG EMA IGA I am in Alberta, Canada, and every doctor has access to the same requisition form, with lab testing done only through the sole contractor for the province, or in hospital labs. This is the form...
  16. I am in the process of getting diagnosed for Celiac as well, and I am learning as I go along. The advice I've received in this forum is tremendous. One thing I have learned in dealing with my kids' health is that the medical system is designed to be a revolving door to get you in and out in as little time as possible. The only way to ensure that...
  17. I'm about to somewhat undo my progress, having to go back on gluten so that testing will register. But here's my very recent experience, starting from over a month ago, until today. After about 48 hours of going gluten free, I began to notice the itching intensity subside. At this point in time, all itching still felt the same for me. After about...
  18. Sigh. So I used a pizza lunch at work as the opportunity to restart gluten for testing purposes. I will still need to contact my doctor's office, but at least the clock can start ticking. And in a few hours, I'm sure I'll start to feel the symptoms.
  19. I have been wondering if this is related too. Seems to have reduced significantly for me since going gluten free. Not something I've ever sought treatment for before, or discussed with anyone. Is the correlation to DH specifically, or to Celiac disease in general?
  20. Probably a good idea. We've all had the TTG blood test done, all coming back negative. Not sure I am 100% convinced for all of my kids. I've told my brother he needs to get tested.
  21. Thanks, cyclinglady. Our doctor is generally very good, and we have a good relationship with him. He is a GP, so not a specialist. I will call his office today, and ask about adding the other items to requisition. Not sure what's actually done at the labs here in Alberta, Canada. I am getting the impression that medically, resources here are lacking...
  22. Hi, I am new to the forum. I've very recently come to the conclusion that in all likelihood have Celiac disease. I just had the results of a blood test come back negative, after having been gluten free for about a month. My doctor was fairly certain it would come back positive, but that wasn't the case. So I now have to reintroduce gluten for two weeks...
