That would be interesting to hear yes. I heard he had another seminar this last fall. Sorry I don't have an answer to your questions myself.
-
...well, so far so good and my heartburn seems a bit better.. Really weird how stuff like that can affect a celiac.
-
I use Open Original Shared Link's lotion myself. Love their stuff.

We just got life insurance now and it wasn't an issue at all. We got it through Lincoln Benefit Life (an allstate company).

Hello everyone! I am pretty much following this already without knowing it. Except I can't do casein.
I think I am going to look for that book..
-
I feed my dog Wellness. I know it doesn't have wheat, but it does contain barley. Rather than look for gluten free dog food & treats I just wash my hands 8 billion times a day.
Wellness has a grain free food now. I just picked it up today (I mentioned it above). Has potatoes instead. We'll see how my dogs stomachs like it.

I am off food hunting here. Thank you all for your replies!!
(How I love this forum.)

Spunky: Yeah, it sure can be tricky. I have been tempted to go the hamburger and rice way too, but I am too lazy to make the patty every day. And then I heard that they might need a more varied food sort of speak, but you mix it up a bit it sounds like so that is probably fine.
I am definitely NOT going to feed my dogs any gluten (I am pretty sure this is what has given me heartburn this summer-seems like it started when we got the last bag or two.., so I really hope they have something else in the local dog store here. They have a local "chain" up here that is pretty good one (PetZooo/Animal Warehouse) the selection in compared to for example Petco, so I am hoping..
Tarnalberry: Sounds a little tempting to try one of the books though... Do you have a favorite one?

not sure what you qualify as an arm and a leg, so I'll list the options that I've looked at for the puppy I'm getting:
Open Original Shared Link: Innova, Evo, California Naturals (one of them is grain free)

Open Original Shared Link
Open Original Shared Link
Open Original Shared Link (some of the non-allergy formulas have some grains, the others don't)

Open Original Shared Link (most of them are grain free)
they're not exactly cheap, but from the research I've been doing on dog nutrition, they're a better set of ingredients than the cheaper ones packed with carb based fillers anyway.
I completely agree with you that the cheap dog foods out there are bad. I don't mind paying some for good dog food, and we have always gotten quality stuff, but we now have two dogs so it can't be too spendy. Alaska seems to have less brands too, so shipping on top of things.. I was looking at the Thrive one that I listed and four 10 lb's bags with shipping would cost $360 (would give 172 lbs of dog food-you add water). It feels very steep.
Thanks for the list!
We used to feed out first dog Wellness before I got diagnosed and she did well on that. I might look in to the "Core" they have.
We tried "Barking At The Moon" for a while and it was too high on protein for our dog. Some high protein foods can cause diarrhea.
Anyways, I am gonna print this list out and go to the pet store tomorrow and see if I am lucky enough to find any of these. I am very grateful for your reply!!

Looks like maybe Open Original Shared Link could be an option..
The Honest Kitchen has a dog food that is gluten free too; Open Original Shared Link. very spendy though I think. You add water to the food and it gives 4 times as much of it sorta.. Still..
(I am listing the ones I find here if anyone is interested.)
Found some kind of dog food list Open Original Shared Linkthat seems to be helpful.. But from looking at the Canidae food on it..well, maybe it is not trustworthy.

Feel free to move this if I'm posting in the wrong section.
Has anyone heard about their "new formula"? Well check their website, you're in for a shocker!!
Open Original Shared Link
Scroll to the bottom, Yup, apparently they can "process out" the gluten (out of barley) to make it gluten free I e-mailed them a few days ago. I don't feed canidae, but I did recommend it to many of my friends. I just let them know that their food is NOT gluten-free and it's really important that they update their website to make that clear. This was the response I got:

I just can't even wrap my brain around this!!
So if you feed Canidae, switch!!!
I have used Canidae for over a year now and I just looked at the label this evening on the two new bags we bough and realized they are so NOT gluten free any more. I have to find a new dog food!! Again. (
-
We have been using Canidae for over a year now for our dog because if was gluten and soy free... I checked the label just for grins tonight and realized they completely changed it and has put both barley and oat in it! I have had issues this summer and maybe this is why. I am actually a bit mad about it. I guess mostly at myself for missing that they changed their product and not making sure to check every time I got a new bag.
So, does anyone have any suggestions on a gluten and soy free dog food? I need to find something real fast that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Thanks!
Jenny

I have used 2 different types of main stream nail polish removers and I am not sure, but the label looked like it had gluten...and another had soy. I feel my feet stink from the remover even if I scrub them hard after use, so I am being paranoid and want to find something safe. Does anyone know of a safe nail polish remover without soy and gluten?
I miss my nail polish..

I really like the Kirkman Labs - Perry Prenatal and it's $12 for a 3 month supply. I don't need a pre-natal but this is one of the most rounded GFCFSF multi-vitamins that I could find and it has a good amount of folic acid.

I second the Kirkman Lab's prenatal ones. Only ones I have done well on so far. I actually feel real good after starting to eat them. Much more energy. I think I needed them.

I bring my own food on planes, because I know I can't trust them. I only had one problem, when in the Toronto airport they took away my little can of pears (still sealed, of course, because it had liquid). Well, they took the one I had in my purse, but left the one in my backpack! But they didn't take my nail scissors I had in my purse (forgot to take it out).
I am sure my 'pear bomb' would have made quite a splash.
Seems weird to take a can of pears that is unopened like that. I have heard them take stuff that doesn't make sense to me and leave things that seem more dangerous.
I wonder how it would work out flying internationally? My family is in Sweden.
So when you go on vacation, if you do, do you make sure to get a place with it's own kitchen? That is what I assume I'll have to do.
...and I am worried they'll take my food at the air port.

YES! Absolutely & with CAREMARK
Doctor must write this code on the original prescription: DAW
The doctor must indicate that for health reasons you cannot have the generic. This has worked us me with Caremark. It should not take a month (however, it did take almost that long the first time I had to do this because Caremark was extremely indifferent about it - this was in 2004). I was on phone with them about a month ago and the Rep. seemed to know exactly what I was talking about and why a brand name was needed. Keep at them, call them and ask about the code DAW.
Keep in mind that you will have to pay a higher co pay or a higher cost than the generic. There's no way around that one.
Than you!! Good information.
Yes, it will be a bit higher price but much better than paying $150 every month (or more).
I will print this out. Thanks again!
So if you need antibiotics for example, do you ask the doctor to write the code AND write a letter every time or?

How frustrating! It is quite obvious that insurance companies couldn't care less about people's health, it is all about money. I've had tons of problems with my insurance company as well, when they didn't want to pay for necessary dental work (my dentist had to fight with them a few times, so frustrating).
I hope they see the light soon.
Yes, they sure do not seem to care about the person, all about the money.
I am so frustrated about it. My doctors office has called and faxed a letter, but nothing yet.
Crazy and maddening. Is it going to be this hard every time?
-
I have lost about 10 lbs since going gluten free (and all other intolerances I have). I gained weight as I got worse and worse before figuring it all out.
-
I haven't dared to. The rest of the people do not rinse of their stuff and sometimes the stuff comes out with food stuck to it still. So no, I don't mix. I live with my husbands folks and there are many others going in and out of this house every week...I don't feel safe with this kitchen.
-
I feel I grieve too. I almost feel hate when my husbands family all sit and feast on their brownies, pizzas, cheese..and regular food.
Not their fault, but man it is hard to deal with.
Some days it feels like a bottomless pit and others I feel more ok about it.
I had a bad day today. People were eating Popcorn, the whole house was smelling from it. Husband came home and had candy and brownie.. I couldn't resist and had a few gluten free cookies and now I have paid all evening with stomach ache and heart burn. Hate myself now.
It would have been so nice to be a regular Celiac.. A dream.
How do you all travel? I feel completely stuck. I don't trust that I will be able to get feed safely on a plane...

I am so mad at our insurance company (the pharmaceutical part-Caremark). I have been eating Protonix twice daily for 4 years now and there hasn't been a generic for it. So I generic just came out and our insurance company will not pay for brand if there is a generic. The generic has dairy in it and I can't do casein. I was given a birth control pill last spring with this same dairy substance in it and it made me ill. So now we have been in this rut talking to the doctors office, the national insurance company and the local people for almost a month. I have been out of Protonix that long. I have borrowed from my father in law and been given a few samples from the doctors office.
The doctor needs to, every time I get a prescription of every kind that has a generic with anything I can't have, write a letter to the insurance company and fax it in. Then it will take up to a month (!!!) for it to go through/get approved. What if I need antibiotics right away???? This is absolutely crazy!!
We have found a nice man at the local place that can get the process done much faster, but I still think it will be a couple of days for him to get it approved, so there is the issue again: what is it is urgent???
This is so stupid.
End vent/rant.
Anyone else have had any similar problems?

I read in one of the gluten books (Dangerous Grains I think..) that the vision can get affected and it was recommended to check the vision 1-2 /year while healing. I had blurred vision while being real sick and got glasses. I don't know if it would have happened anyways though.
-
Does anyone think that is why celiac is so hard to diagnose? The symptoms are not the same for everyone. Some gain, some lose, some have skin disorders, others don't, etc. It seems the variances are endless!
Very true.
-
Ugh, then I am not alone. This thing would have been easy if it was just gluten I feel.
All legumes are out for me and I have a lot of fruit allergies. I can handle Safflower and olive oil mostly.
Yeah..
I usually get heart burn and feel nauseas and out of sorts. Not as bad as I get when I get gluten, casein and soy in my system but it just doesn't work in the long run to eat the other stuff and I am tired of having bad days and heart burn so now I am gonna go hard core on no grains etc.
It is just nice to talk to others that have as many limitations.

I have endo and fibroids. I had a lap last February and will maybe have another this year. Some say endo is an autoimmune disease...so who knows.. I had a cyst last Christmas, but don't seem to have them regularly..
