  1. My dog is getting Wellness dog food right now. Has lots of oats but it is supposed to be a good brand. It is spendy too so switching her over to another gluten free brand that is spendy will just be a good thing.

I am very close to my dog, she gets a lots of hugs and kisses..so I thought I should get a gluten free brand. I have been a bit reluctant to be around her food and stuff. I am sure you guys know what I mean,

I am very happy to hear there are gluten free dog food. :D

One less thing to worry about you know.

  2. Thanks for the link and replies!

I have had two times now when it just take so long time to get ack on track. Other times it takes a couple of days.

I am wondering if the factr that I haven't been gluten free for that long and I have been really sick for 4 years before I started on this...well that either my body gets a virus at the same time...or my body is slow and tired at cathing up.

I dunno. It freaks me out some.

Oh well. One day at the time.

  3. Thanks so much for your replies.

Yeah, I need to read more on here. I have read a couple of books, but it is all so overwhelming..

I feel like some stuff doesn't say in books either. For example that charcoal briquetts have gluten. Toothpaste...I have read about it all here.

I am trying hard to make sense of all of this. I just ordered tests from Enterolab too. Gonna get checked for gluten, milk, soy, egg and yeast.

I feel I need to get some answers.

I feel I keep on getting sick so often. And every time I seem to figure out one more thing that I have missed. I have heard it is common to have it this way until you figure it all out.

Well, today my husband got me some new pots and pans and stuff.

I am working on it. ;)

  4. I can so relate to what you are going through Ursula!

I stopped eating gluten 4 months ago. My husband and I live with his family right now, but hopefully we can move next year. But as is now it is VERY hard for me to be gluten free and get any understanding in this house. There are like 6 gluten eating people here that do not wash their hands and stuff.

There are crums all over the kitchen usually. They put the spoons in gluten free food on their plates when they take food and put it back in the pot, so I end up not being able to eat it. They eat pizza and pie infront of me expecting me to be very happy about it, but if someone else missed out on something they want there is a big fuss. (Not that I expect them to eat gluten free food, it is just the way it is done.) In general there is almost always something put on the food so that I can't have it (spice mix, breading..)

Then if I am making gluten free brownies for everyone they will not even taste it.

My sister in law told me being gluten intolerant is just the body getting too much gluten for a while and with a little bit of rest from it I can start again. I told her that that isn't true and she got mad at me. She knew because she has read this one book about "you are what you eat" and has a friend who is some eastern medicinist or something...and that freind is good about these things. What ever that means. Pretty insulting anyways.

My husbands brother told me he could never be gluten free if he were intolerant. He would just take the symptoms and die if he had to. Yeah, very nice to hear too. Like there is a choice really. Like the symptoms are so mild I could keep on eating gluten and like it is okay that it still damages the body. I dunno, it just seems so "tastless".

People do not have any understanding at all, no interest to make things safe for me to eat with them..so I make my own food and eat before they do most of the time, which makes me feel even more left out that I already do, but at least I will not get sick so often.

I absolutely hate it. It isn't making the sadness over that I can't eat regular food any better. Some days are better than others, but I long for the day we can move out of here.

I think the hardest thing is that they think I am just being stupid about it all. Like they think I can just stop eating bread and then I am fine.

Well, so I can relate very much.

My husband is very understanding and interested luckely. I think he will most likely not eat much gluten once we get our own place. He will probably eat my food with some bread and stuff added on to it kinda.

  5. I find it so hard to stay clear of Gluten. I haven't done this more than 4 months but I feel gluten is hidden in so much stuff it isn't even funny.

    Okay, so Crest is safe.

I might have been glutened myself with toothpast too so far..

    Thanks for the reply!

I get canker sores sometimes and try to use toothpast without the sulfates. I guess I should stop using the Rembrandts one then (Oral-B brand).

There is another one but I don't know the name now...

I will get back on that.

    Thanks again. :)

  6. My problem is that I live ina household where everyone else eats glutenand lots of it. So with me being in this situation I should probably get my own?

What about plastic containers and stuff? Is it just the cooking that is the danger?

    Thanks for the reply!

This might be a weird quetsion, but what about microvawe ovens? Are they safe to share with such a gluten crazy family that I live in?

  7. It had some yellow stuff on it. We didn't ask for extra butter. I am lactos intolerant too but never get heart burn from lactos. They kept it uncovered and just scooped out the stuff. It didn't seem very "safe". I dunno.

I know corn is safe, it was if it was common that they have stuff on the corn. Hmm.. I know they sell other stuff too ther that might have Gluten. But I guess this will be unresolved.

    Thanks for all the replies!!

(It was a Regal Cinema Theatre.)

I have been sick since that day anyways. I seem to be sensitiv or something...

  8. She said she knew I had all the symptoms, but she didn't think it could be celiac disease because I was gaining weight, instead of losing it (I gave her a good information session on celiac disease, and let her know that unexplained weight gain is a common symptom of celiac disease, too).

I gained weight out of the blue last summer. I never understood why because I never changed the way I ate or excersised. Could have been gluten intolerance too then.

I still have symptoms left. It isn't all gone, but slowly getting better one by one. Something I realized today too is that I can actually think better.

I have heard there is a difference between Celiac disease and Gluten intolenance. Is that true?

  9. Jenny,

    Welcome to the board!

A word to the wise regarding the Gluten Free Bible -- some posters here beleive that the book contains inaccuracies about food and the diet.

I would recommend "Gluten Free for Dummies" by Dana Korn -- she is awesome.

Also, to increase your education on new thoughts on Celiac and Non-Celiac gluten sensitivity, you should read "Dangerous Grains" -- really good book (a bit dry, but the information and research is cool).

I think there is another regular poster on here from Alaska -- Lesliean is her user name.

Here is a link when she posted -- Open Original Shared Link

also, the Glacier Bear Bed & Breakfast and the Jewel Lake B&B offer gluten free meals (I don't know if you have to stay there or not....)

Outback is always a good choice. so is Lonestar Steakhouse (Steak, chicken and a big ol sweet potato!)

    Hope this helps...

Thanks for the tips! Much appreciated! I'll check them out. I think I have seen that Gluten Free for Dummies book.
