I think I remember reading here that some Celiacs don't seem to do well on any grains or even rice. I just can't remember why. I seem to be one of them.
Does anyone know? Are there any theories?
-
I don't eat bread often. I haven't been able to find a mix or bread that my stomach aproves of.
I do miss it sometimes, but not as much as I thought I would.
-
I have had it my whole life. It used to be on my face a little but now I am mostly just red there kinda. Very soft skin otherwise.
But I have it on the back of my arms. I can't feel it much, never had a problem with itching.
I read and was told cremes with AHA and BHA is good for it. You gotta keep that skin out of the sun though when you use that type of creme.
I am not using anything on it when I don't feel it in any ways. I think I have a milder one. But the AHA/BHA stuff can make your skin a bit irritated so I stopped using it.
My brother has this too and also my mom some. It's from her side of the family. I think grandpa had some too...
Going gluten free hasn't made any difference so far.
-
I can get a low grade fever when I get glutened too.
-
I have given up on trying to do anything with my food at work. I make my stuff at home and then I bring it all in a cooler box. I bring my own fork and everything.
-
We sent PM's back and forth but I remembered that there is an OutBack in town too. I have read here that some people here go there. They are supposedly having a gluten free meny. I don't go to restaurants myself. My system is too sensitive to take the chance.
-
I dunno if anyone is interested but I went back to the doctor today and she didn't want me to eat/have any hormones at all. She said it is fine if I spot a little and stuff. I am happy with that.
Oh and I wrote EnteroLab about Lactoce Monohydrate. There can be traces and if you react to them you should change medication. Some don't react to them and should be fine as far as I understood.

Jenny,
If you do get the Vance's, it makes a pretty good "ice cream". I have several recipes if you ever need them.
I'll probably order some online next week. I'll send off a little PM to you about that ice creme.
I picked up some coconut and I found Enjoy Life's chocolate. (I had the cookies from before, not the chocolate pieces).
I am gonna melt the chocolate and mix in coconut. Hopefully my stomach will aprove. I haven't had chocolate since forever! I can't even remember when!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have tried some Bob's Mills stuff and somethimes it's been fine but a few times I felt sick after. Not a lot, so I am not sure. I saw other people saying that they reacted to them on here so I thought I'd try something else.
I'll check all of your suggestions. Thanks again.
-
I am very sensitive when it comes to cross contamination. I don't trust Bob's Mill and I wanna find a Brown Rice Flour that is safe. Do you have a brand that you use that you trust and can recommend?
Thanks!

I get just as weird on Casein as on Gluten myself.

Enjoy Life foods makes soy free chocolate chips. I usually buy them online, but I can buy them in one store here. It's just not a store that I go to very often and when I buy online, I really stock up.
You can get unsweetened cocoa nibs or beans at the health food store. At least I can. These can be ground up and sweetened with some agave nectar, or even the dates as someone else said. Coconut, dates and chocolate ground together is delicious! I roll them in balls and then in more coconut so the outsides aren't sticky. You can add a touch of mint extract to this, provided you are not allergic.
I also bought a snack in a little box at the health food store that is a mix of unsweetened cocoa nibs, flaked coconut and raisins. Daughter loves the stuff. It's a bit too sweet for me.
Can you eat popcorn? I make it in a pan with coconut oil and some Real Salt sprinkled on.
If you are not allergic to bananas, you can make a quick ice cream from it by cutting the bananas in chunks and freezing them. Overripe ones will work well for this. Then put the frozen chunks in the blender and process them until smooth. You can add other fruits to this, maple syrup, nuts, or even cocoa nibs.
Using a similar technique, you can do a sorbet of sorts with other types of fruit like canned pineapple (reserve the juice), strawberries or other berries. I think peaches would work well for this too. Freeze the pieces, then put in the blender adding a bit of the reserved juice if needed. If you don't have any reserved juice, you can add a bit of water or any other kind of fruit juice you are not allergic to.
I can't have some of the stuff you mentioned (and not sure about popcorn yet. I have felt both ok and sick from eating them so far) but there were some pretty good suggestions here. Thanks! =D
I'll have to print out this thread.

I am glad my dog is on a gluten free dog food too. Rat poison. That is scary.
-
If you're done with the kid-bearing years, endometrial ablation might be an option, too.
I haven't had kids yet. Not sure we'll have any but we might.

You poor thing! Maybe after avoiding your sensitivities for a while, you will be able to tolerate some every once in a while. I completely avoided rice for 6 months, and I can eat it now--so there is hope
Yes, that's the product that I use. I would recommend the pitcher because it tends to clump on the bottom, and is hard to mix up with a spoon. The pitcher with the mixer built onto the top is so much easier and neater, too. I put it in the dishwasher and it comes out fine. Definately worth it.
I can eat rice (at least brown) but the stuff I am intolerant to (gluten, dairy and legumes) I can handle not even traces of it seems. So most processed foods are out even if many are made gluten free. If there is gluten in the facility or been used on the same machine I can't eat it and feel well. Most of the time anyways. Makes me very limited.
I'll get the pitcher then. Thanks. Hope the drink works for me.

Jenny,
You're absolutely right about the guar gum--I knew it was legume. I don't react to such a small amount, so I forgot it was even in there!
Lucky you! I can't believe how sensitive I seem to be. Tiny, tiny amounts.
Is this that Potato drink? Open Original Shared Link
Looks promising. I'll have to order some I think.
I have to get mine online too. Would you recommend I get their mixer/pitcher too?

Enjoy Life make soy free chocolate chips that you might be able to use in baking.
Oh I remember! I just bought that one the other day. I haven't tried it yet though. Love Enjoy Life's stuff. I wish their trail mix would be apple free though. I wrote them and asked if they could make it apple free.. Probably will not happen though.

Jenny, can you get Pacific Rice Milks where you are? They don't contain legume. I use several of their products.
Actually Jello is a fruity gelatin dessert (that is gluten-free, by the way)--they also make a pudding mix--that's the one I was referring to. Jello is a Kraft company, so they disclose any gluten on the package.
Yes, I can eat chocolate Sorry that you are reacting to something in the mixes....you should probably stick to things with few ingredients until you pinpoint which you are intolerant to.
I make hot cocoa with almond milk (you could substitute rice), Nestle Pure cocoa powder and a little sugar. It's really good.
I just thought of something--can you eat potatoes? There's a good milk sub based on potatoes called Vance's Dari Free. I have to order it because it's not available here. If you want, I will get their link to you.
Anyway, glad at least you had a great pasta dinner! We'll figure this thing out--you *need* some treats!
The Pacific Rice Milk has Guar Gum in it, which is a Legume. It took a while for me to figure out why my stomach didn't like that one.
Ingredients
FILTERED WATER, BROWN RICE, EXPELLER PRESSED CANOLA OIL, TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, NATURAL FLAVOR, SEA SALT, GUAR GUM, XANTHAN GUM, CARRAGEENAN, CAROB BEAN GUM, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, VITAMIN D2.
So I am gonna try make my own rice milk eventually. I miss eating milk and cereal sometimes.
I'll definitely have to check that potato milk out! =)
(Is Carob Bean a Legume?? I'll have to check that one too.)
(And here is the answer; Yes, the Carob bean is a legume. Open Original Shared Link )
Oh and I love Pacifics' Organic Low Sodium Chicken Broth. Free of Legumes, Dairy and Gluten. My stomach aproves every time.

Gooey Brownies (gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free, soy-free)
1 C Br. Rice flour
1/8 tsp. xanthan gum
1 Tbs. Egg Replacer
1/3 C Cocoa Powder
2 Tbs Sugar
1-1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/4 tsp. Salt
Sift all dry ingredients 2-3 times. Then add:
3/4 C Real Maple Syrup
1/3 C Oil (Melted coconut oil is great!)
2 Tbs water with 2-1/2 tsp. ground flax meal stirred in (if you can have eggs, use one instead)
1 tsp. Vanilla
Optional - add a handful of chocolate chips
Mix well and scrape into greased 9 x 9 pan. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Cool slightly, then cut into squares.
Note- you can even make these chocolate free by substituting 1/2 C Carob powder for the cocoa powder and sugar.
Those actually look like something I could eat! Thanks!!!

Hi Jenny
I know how you feel, being intolerant to darn near everything myself....
One of my favorite treats is chocolate or butterscotch pudding. I use 3 cups vanilla almond milk to 2 small boxes of Jello pudding (the kind you cook). It is so yummy!
I can't do Almond milk. The Rice milks I have seen have legume in them...so I need to make my own. Some how. (I wish I was more of a baker..) Then maybe I can use my homemade rice milk with that Jello. I have never had Jello actually. Ever. Can you tell I am not from around here? (From Sweden, married an Alaskan 8 years ago)
Need some type of Vanilla in there too probably..
Jerseyangel (my DNA twin), can you eat chocolate? (soy free that is) I had that brown bag brownie mix that is supposed to be free of everything bad..and it kept me up all night. I am not sure I can do chocolate or if it was just something in the mix. Egg, that Xanthangum...Something. I am actually scared of trying new stuff these days. Everything makes me feel nasty almost. The better it tastes the worse I feel usually.
I managed to make a good "spagetti sauce" with tomato and stuff a while back. It made the rice pasta taste like regular pasta even. It was heaven to eat "normal". At least it felt like food from the old days. It almost brought me to tears as I ate it. ;P My husband is really good with mixing spices and I felt good afterwards too. Yummy.
-
I am sorry you feel down. I felt that way on my birthday in February too, so I know what you mean. My husband made a good dinner so that made up for it some.
I always used to like ice creme better than cake too so that would be a good idea if you like and can have it. I wish I could have ice creme.. Have you seen this brand? Open Original Shared Link Maybe they sell it near you..? (I didn't look where you live before I started typing.)
It is sad how everything evolves around food when it comes to celebrating I think. I wish things were a little different with that. That people would DO things together instead. Maybe go bowling. I dunno.
I really hope you'll get a good birthday. It'll be different but maybe "good different". Hopefully you'll find a good way to celebrate your birthday as time goes by.

Would you like a recipe for dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free brownies? (gluten-free of course, too.) I just made them last night for my daughter to take to school. I'm off chocolate, but my kids assured me that they're delicious. I usually make them out of carob, but my daughter wanted chocolate for school.
Yes! Why not?!
-
Have you tried Open Original Shared Link ? Lots of fun...and thinking. Frustration.

The mirena releases progesterone. It would be a less systemic way of getting progesterone than the mini pills. It's used to treat abnormal menstrual bleeding.
Oh okay. When I looked at it here it said hormone free. I must have missed that they can come with Progesterone too.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I am going back to the doctor tomorrow. We'll see what happens then.

Sorry that is has taken so long for me to get back to this thread. I haven't been able to get online here.
Anyways...Seems the lectin could be my problem.
I am gonna look into Ursa Majors page.
Thanks all of you! Sorry again that it took me so long to reply.
