  1. I'm actually curious about this as well. I'm still in the process of determining whether or not gluten is my issue (awaiting EnteroLab results) but I know that celiac can trigger neurological problems in some, and all 3 of my boys have neurological differences.

My oldest and middle child have had constipation/diarrhea issues, which I had at the time thought was behavioral (one is asperger's, one is OCD and tourette's) and my youngest (just 2) has had diarrhea on and off (noticed more with potty training) and he has a speech delay that we are finding out is neurologically based.

However, all my children are healthy weights. The first was 35 lbs at 18 mos, and at 12 is now about 120. My middle son is a smaller build, but he is not skinny. The little one is 2 3/4, and is probably over 40 lbs at this point. All 3 of them are tall, according to the "charts."

  2. She said they inadvertently put them in there, but they'd be happy to run the genetic testing if I wanted them to.

I was kinda hoping they'd do it for free ^_^ since it was their mistake to put them in there, but that was wishful thinking. It wasn't like the inadvertently RAN the test. :P

Anyway, they're going to do the gene test, and bill me on Friday (payday). She was very nice, and I'm really looking forward to getting my results now. We had a little chat about the concerns I have about my kids (the 2 y.o. has also started having D seemingly unrelated to any illnesses) so I'm sure it won't be long before I start sending more poop to them! LOL

  3. Does anyone know if deli's or salad bars add anything to their chicken salads that would make me have such a reaction.

Salad bar!? I never trust food out in the open like that. Any spoon from any other food could have been put in there, and you'd have no way of knowing.

I stay FAAARRRR away from salad bars!

  4. Someone very nice posted some recipes for cashew cheese stuff (sooooo sorry I'm blanking on your name!!) and now I can't find the recipes! I printed them out, went to the store and bought the ingredients for one of the recipes...and left the recipes in the cart! <_<

Anyway, I'll find the recipes eventually, but one of the ingredients was listed as "yeast flakes." I went to Wegman's to find them, and not only did I not find them, no one knew what they were!

I ended up buying the jar of yeast, uh, pellets, I guess, but is that the same thing?

Edit: I found the recipes...I had saved them to my puter. Doh!

  5. Interesting points...thanks for the replies!

What makes this all the more odd is that there is NO early osteoperosis in my family. My grandmother had it, but she was well into her 80s and a chain smoker for years before she got it.

Well, my fibro friend just told me last night that the rheumy I'm going to on Monday (also her rheumy) can order a bone scan, so I'll ask him about it then.

    Thanks, all!

  6. I was wondering if anyone here does raw food or plans to.

I'm "sort of" doing this. Because I'm just not sure what's still making me feel crappy, I'm eating mostly fruits and veggies, with pasta and cooked meet occasionally. Oh, and some minimally processed breakfast cereal most mornings.

I'm not very religious about it, though. I'm mostly staying away from highly processed foods or foods with any artificial ingredients.

I do eat a lot of trail mix, though, so I guess I'm getting some protein from there. :D

  7. Well, looking back I had problems early on. I had diarrhea so bad when I was 3 that I had to be hospitalized for dehydration. Then I had some kind of allergy issue (my mom doesn't remember the specifics) but I was taken off milk for several months and had to sleep with a down pillow.

Throughout my early teens, I didn't have gastric symptoms but I did have asthma and chronic sinus infections. Weird for a teen to have sinus infections every winter, eh? No one else seemed to think it was odd.

Well, that sort of went away and we fast forward to mid 20s. I don't really remember when the diarrhea started, I have just always been prone to it. It would come and go, but never really seem to be related to anything. The back pain started around this time as well.

Fast forward to age 30 and my pg with my 3rd child. Yes, this PREGNANCY did me in! It was a difficult pregnancy, and for the first time in my life I was introduced to heartburn! After he was born I was sick for MONTHS with sinus infections, bronchitis, and ear infections. The sinus infections had started to reappear a year or two before this, but for three months after my baby was born I went from infection to infection to infection....

Then the migraines came. Never had a migraine before age 31, how strange is that? Around this time I experienced a lot of stress. I was between jobs working for peanuts as an intern and DH cut back to part time to go back to school so we were broke, and within 3 months my two younger children were diagnosed with neurological conditions (the oldest had been diagnosed a couple of years earlier with Asperger's).

The heartburn became a daily thing and I started taking prevacid. I started having panic attacks and chronic anxiety, and now I'm on meds for that. The diarrhea sort of crept up on me, and eventually this spring it got to the point where I had diarrhea every day. Endo was fine, blood tests were fine...then I got arthritis.

That was the final straw for me! I finally went gluten free. I didn't care what the doctors said, SOMEthing was going on with my digestive system.

So there you have it...pregnancy + stress was my trigger!

  8. Make-up, face washes, etc. are a big deal for women if you wear them. I can give you more info on that, as well, if you need it.

I personally would love to have more information about cosmetics/hygeine products. I don't want to hijack this thread, but I have been searching for what is and is not an ok ingredient for WEEKS to no avail.

    And, of course, WELCOME, AMY!!!

This place has been a haven for me since going gluten-free. I hope you find that it's the same for you.

  9. If you got the whole panel that includes the dairy for $369, then it included the gene test. Did you do the swabs and send them in anyway? The soy/egg/yeast is $199. For a total of $568. I got those done too.

No, I did the one that cost $249, plus the soy/egg/yeast for $199. That was about all I could handle this time around! LOL I did do the swab samples, though. So, they have them if they feel like giving me the gene test for free. :D

Depending on what shows up, or maybe I'll do it anyway, I want send in my son's samples. For that I'll just get the main deal for $369, which WILL include the gene test.
