I completely agree. It has been very confusing. I live in a pretty rural area so I don’t have many options as far as doctors. I could go to a larger city center but I checked and it will be months before I can be seen. I think my current doctor just isn’t well versed in celiac unfortunately. My daughter has a number of medical problems and I have had to ...

Just an update to not leave anyone wondering. ? They moved my follow up appointment because the doctor ordered a small bowel series and they want me to do that before I see him. So I haven’t gone in for biopsy results yet. I asked the nurse and she said there was no cancer and that the report read no pathology. So I guess I don’t have celiac? She wouldn’t r...

My primary care is calling the lab this morning to find out what samples were submitted. I left a message at the GIs office as well. As a random side note...anyone else wake up with a swollen traumatized lip after EGD? My lower lip on the right is all swollen and painful with ulcerations on the inside. I’m guessing they mushed it up against m...

Ok....hold up. I just looked in my handy online portal and it shows a procedure report. It states biopsies were taken of my colon but doesn’t say any were taken of my duodenum!!! I even specifically confirmed with the doctor minutes before my procedure that he would be taking at least 6 biopsies to look for celiac disease and he assured me he would. I’m...

Understanding ANA results
chocolatesunrise replied to rowanie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! These types of tests can be really confusing to interpret on your own. Will you be seeing your doctor soon to go over these? I believe the “cytoplasmic” result just refers to where in the cell there was evidence of binding to antigens. In other words, it has to do with which part of the cell there are autoantibodies found in. That ultimately can... -
There is nothing more discouraging and maddening then being dismissed when you know something is wrong. I think often the medical world doesn’t want to be bothered with patients who have symptoms that don’t neatly fit into a simple diagnosis. They don’t want to spend the time or put in the effort to “work” for a diagnosis. It just baffles me...why go into m...

Thank you for your kind words. I’m emotionally drained and discouraged. I feel like it was a mistake to even try and get my strange GI symptoms diagnosed. Maybe it is all in my head and I’m just crazy. I’m tired of having to explain myself over and over and having nobody take me seriously. This is the third GI doctor I’ve been to and I’m just done. I can’t ...

So I did my prep, my husband took the day off work and I went in for my endoscopy this morning only to be told they have to reschedule me!! I’m so frustrated and mad. I made a point of telling the doctor at my first appointment that I’ve had Versed in the past and it doesn’t work well for me. I’m still very awake and aware and so I was concerned about a...

I’m still in the midst of my work up for celiac so I can’t tell you for sure if my symptoms are due to celiac or not, but for what it’s worth I have very similar pain to what you describe. I also had a negative h pylori breath test and a few negative ultrasounds looking for gall stones. I second the peppermint altoids and peppermint oil. I think it helps...

I still have 13 days until my biopsy so I am biding my time by obsessing over every symptom I have. lol. I have always been really thin and unable to gain weight. About a year ago I noticed I started gaining weight but hadn't really changed anything. I attributed it to perimenopause and hormones and I gained about 10 pounds total. What's weird, though...

Thank you so much for the advice. I wish I had found this group when I first got that positive blood test!! My doctor told me it didn’t matter if I stopped eating gluten because the damage takes months to heal. It’s frustrating to get bad information. ? Even when I called the office today to ask this same question about having to eat gluten they told me ...

Here comes more whining...? last night was awful. I was in so much pain. I don’t think i can do this for two more weeks! Question....I was only off gluten for 2 weeks. Do you think if I ask to get my biopsy done sooner i will risk a false negative if I haven’t returned to a gluten diet for the full 2 weeks immediately prior to biopsy? I’m wondering if si...

So just as an update...gluten challenge is not fun. ?. I’m on day 3 of eating gluten and I do not feel fantastic. Feels like I’ve been punched in the gut. The first two days weren’t that bad, but last night I started feeling pretty bloated and I’ve been gross all day today. I have 15 days until my endoscopy and I’m not looking forward to continuing this!! O...
