  1. Diagnosed celiac of 24 years here........I own a commercial construction company that specializes in drywall, acoustical finishes, tile, etc. No gluten in drywall, mud, etc. While I’m in the office as the company bean counter, I finalize all the legal paperwork involved in the contract process - including the MSDS sheets of every material we use, and I g...
  2. The curse of loose bowels will be with you until your GI tract is healed. If you’re like me, you’ll be more prone to that then regular bathroom visits. 24 years after diagnosis I finally was tested for vitamin deficiencies and found more than a few. 3 weeks after beginning a course of B12 loading, I’m consistently “regular.” I’m 48 years old and this is...
  3. Another thing to consider is that it takes a period of time for your body to detox from the harmful antibodies so the healing can begin. It appears you’ve done research on your food and understand the diet, so be patient with yourself. Celiacs are notoriously low in the vitamin B’s - the B’s give you energy and contribute to cellular regeneration. I d...
  4. If you are just beginning down the road of eliminating gluten, and your EGD showed damage, you likely are not absorbing all the nutrients from your food. Long term this brings about deficiencies, which wreaks havoc on your body systems. Exhaustion is one of the main symptoms of most vitamin deficiencies. Talk to your doctor about testing you for vitamin deficiencies...
  5. Something you’re ingesting is obviously irritating your GI system. Think back to what you were ingesting at the time your digestion was normal. Eliminate whatever you’ve added since then. Gluten isn’t the only offender when we have GI problems, especially if our digestive system isn’t healed. You did not mention if you are consuming dairy. If so, I would...
  6. I’m terribly sorry for your previous losses. I was in the same boat and ended up with four beautiful children. My OB sent me to a gastro that specialized in celiac to review my diet, antibodies, and scope me. Although everything came back normal, he did question my coffee creamer (Carnation Hazelnut). One of the ingredients had changed giving it trace amounts o...
  7. I haven’t had a DH flare like that since 3 weeks before my wedding almost 25 years ago. Gluten was still in my diet and I was under an enormous amount of stress. It took several steroid injections and weeks of antihistamines to make it tolerable. I was diagnosed with Celiac 6 months later. My children are also prone to DH and other forms of eczema a...
  8. I also had the missing words, confusion, severe cold intolerance and pins in my fingers with my B12 deficiency. My folate was 0 as well, but is now at the low end of normal. (You need B12 to synthesize folate in order to be absorbed by your body) I take an injection of cyancobalamin every 10 days 3 months after diagnosis of the deficiency. Eventually injections...
  9. Make sure to follow up with your doctor regarding your symptoms and dive into your research. Good luck!
  10. From my experience, it could take well over a year for your body to heal in order to absorb all the nutrients from your food. Some people have symptoms resolve after several months. I strongly recommend that you be tested for vitamin deficiencies at this point so you have a better idea of how to heal yourself. Vitamin deficiencies can cause the pins and...
  11. I agree, it takes years sometimes to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Specifically, the test for Celiac isn’t sensitive enough to detect the antibodies in the beginning stages. I have 4 kids and they all have one of the genes (I have both). My oldest was diagnosed with Celiac at age 14 months after 9 months of immune deficiency causing mastoiditis, ...
  12. Sounds like a toxic relationship. People aren’t always accepting of changes that alter the culture of the relationship. As my teenagers say, “You do you,” and focus on blessing yourself with health. Negativity makes us all unwell.
  13. Every one of us has something that challenges us. Some find out early in life, others aren’t as fortunate and discover too late. I choose to believe we are fortunate to have the opportunity to live a healthier lifestyle that improves health. As you navigate through additional challenges, add it to your list of things you are fortunate to know about your h...
  14. As a celiac of 24 years, the science behind the distillation process does not convince my body the spirits are gluten-free when the original source is from a gluten containing grain. I’ve had enough chemistry in college to understand the theory, but my body isn’t buying it. DH, migraines and an increase in gastro issues occur without fail. Perhaps the aut...
  15. Thank you for all the information and the discussion on “gluten removed” labeling. I’m skeptical of any labels referring to gluten and ALWAYS look at the ingredients. The ignorance of servers who boldly state the distillation process removes the gluten in certain liquors is dangerous. For some reason the population seems to lose common sense when alcohol is th...
  16. There are a number of things that can cause that pain. Keep seeking answers until you find a professional that will listen and give you confidence you are being cared for properly. A gastroenterologist should address your health issues as primary care physicians are not trained in this area. Good luck.
  17. “Gluten removed beer” still gets me, but so does gluten-free oats. Wouldn’t someone with a gluten allergy be more immediately affected by low ppm gluten content than a celiac? I can’t see how this is ingesting without harm for either population. Please advise.
  18. In my experience the biopsy confirms what the doc has seen when he does the EDT. 24 years ago my doc told me I had flattening of the vilii before I left the hospital on the day of the test. It really shouldn’t take long, but perhaps processes are different in Canada. The healing process is different for everyone. Someone who has had significant decline i...
  19. I’ve dealt with daily headaches and migraines 15 days out of the month since I had HELLP syndrome with my 7th pregnancy (4th live birth) in 2006. Since then I can’t keep weight on, have balance issues and chronic pain as a result of a fall on my steps fracturing 4 vertebrae and 2 ribs. My PC ran some labs and declared everything is awesome!! My health his...
  20. My bloodwork came back on my ferritin levels. It appears I also have hemochromatosis. I can’t help but be disgusted knowing I repeatedly told my PC about my family history of pernicious anemia and hemochromatosis. I’ve suffered trying to keep up with my teenagers these last few years despite crushing exhaustion, chronic pain and migraines the majority of ...
  21. When I was first diagnosed with Celiac in 1995, at age 24, I was extremely malnourished. My vision was gone, I couldn’t climb the 3 floors to my apartment, I was exhausted and unable to perform my high level position in finance. It’s temporary. Explain your situation to your boss and that you are doing everything possible to regain your health. You must be ...
  22. So many parallels! My body reacts with hives to many foods/stress/whatever. It seems once that hive reaction starts it’s nearly impossible to clear up. Prednisone has helped with that, and I actually feel the best on prednisone. Gastritis has been a constant for me my entire life. I was diagnosed with esophagitis for the pain that doubles me o...
  23. Thank you for your suggestions. I had correspondence with Dr. Fassano and Dr. Guandalini years ago after numerous miscarriages and infertility. I was fortunate enough to attend a conference with both of them at the University of Chicago in 2003. Perhaps I need to pursue treatment there rather than prolong the frustration in GR. Thanks again!
  24. I’ve been a diagnosed celiac since 1995. I was fortunate to show improvement within 6 months and completely heal within 2 years. 24 years later I’ve dropped over 30 pounds in 2 years and have neurological symptoms too pronounced to ignore. In fact, I fell on my steps 2 years ago and fractured 4 vertebrae, 2 ribs and punctured a lung. My PC doc at that tim...
  25. Perhaps omit the oat flour. As a celiac, in a large family with many celiacs and gluten intolerant people, oat flour is not tolerated. I know it’s supposed to be gluten-free, but in 1995 when I was first diagnosed, the list of gluten containing grains to avoid was wheat, oats, barley, rye and millet. Not sure how or when oats and millet was removed from t...
