Read somewhere that Celiac can be triggered by strong immune reactions or stress. It is possible that your Celiac was triggered by Covid-19. Antibody levels skyrock pretty quickly, but gut damage takes time. If you have been a celiac for only a short period of time, you won't have any gut damage (yet).

@JoelW1lls You might need to think about if there is anything in your life causing you stress? Often people make the mistake believing that stress can only be caused by external pressure, deadlines, running late etc. How is your inner chatter? Negative thoughts? Low self image? Any addiction (not just substances, it can be internet addiction, social media...

Yes, I also believe that celiac can be triggered by stress or trauma. My stress started around 5-6 years ago and I don't think it's a coincidence I had my first celiac symptoms (neuropathy) about the same time. I got referred to a neurologist for suspected MS. Of course I didn't know back then it was celiac because my gut symptoms flared up waaaaay later...

It takes a lot more time to damage the gut than to get elevated antibody levels. Maybe you haven't been sick that long? That's probably why you already feel so much better 😃 I suspect I was sick 5 years prior to diagnosis and my gut damage was partial to subtotal. 5 years and still not a total damage.

Anyone else feels different in another country?

But I do envy that there's so many foods to choose from in the US. If I ever go there, the first place I would visit is Walmart. Can you imagine being a celiac in Italy? There must be wheat flour particles in the air -
Yes, but in my case it's not related to the gluten free diet. Waking up in the middle of the night is the most common stress-related sleeping issue. It's more common than difficulty falling asleep. If it's stress related, it's because the body and mind is always in alert-mode and what awakens people is the sudden rush of stress hormones during the night....

Diagnosis has triggered health anxiety and I'm struggling
BuddhaBar replied to Fbmb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you would get another more serious autoimmune disease or lymphoma and the doctor told you you only had months to live, you would probably regret worrying so much. That's probably the most common regret of people on their death bed. -

Never been to the US, but I have a couple online friends from the US and from what I understand US has a lot of processed foods with an ingredients list longer than the Old Testament. -
I used to be that kind of person who could eat anything without the slightest abdominal discomfort. Even weird combination of foods that would trigger bloating and discomfort in most people, no problems. However, since celiac I've noticed changes to my GI system. Eating too much sugar is one of them. Causes right sided abdominal pain that's moving up and...

Persistent Symptoms
BuddhaBar replied to mikemcm22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How much and what type of vegetables do you eat? Some people are sensitive to a high fiber intake, especially after being on a gluten free fiber lacking diet for a while. Bloating is the main symptom. Sorry you have to exclude all those foods from your diet. Being on a gluten free diet is boring enough. -
@knitty kitty I did actually supplement with Thiamine (and Magnesium) while having Burnout, but it didn't help with the insomnia and panic attacks. Insomnia and panic attacks while being burnout is due to the adrenaline and cortisol going bananas. Lifestyle changes, changing your mindset and a lot of time is the only thing that helps in the long run because...

Update: It's been a while now and as I suspected my weight loss would slow down, but I didn't expect it would slow down so soon. I've lost a total of 11 lbs, my BMI is now 28. I want to get it down to 27.5 which means I have to lose an additional 7 lbs, but the scale won't move. There's been some cheat days, but I can count them on one hand and it's...

I was surprised how much I actually lost just from changing my diet and generally becoming more active. I'm not exercising in a traditional way at the moment because like I said in my first post it's difficult right now. I'm just more active. Cleaning my apartment more often, doing the more physical tasks at work, walking 1/3 of the distant to work before...

Thanks charks for your reply. I did some intermittent fasting, but as I'm trying to get more physically active I felt my body needed some energy. It's been 2 weeks now and I've replaced most of my foods with alternatives. I found some gluten free crispbread mostly made from various seeds and nuts. No rice flour or anything like that. Found some cornflakes...

2 Christmas glutenings and now I found out I've been slowly ingesting poison from the new coffee machine at work. The coffee itself is gluten free, but it comes out from the same pipe as cocoa and other drinks which I found out today had gluten in them. This is a major one folks! Gallbladder and all that is fine now, but I've been having neuropathy...

I've seen those pillows before. Yup, most of us are sleeping too soft. Soft beds and pillows haven't been around for that long. My grandmother still slept in her 1950's bed during the 1980's. It was pretty firm and I slept like a queen in it when I was a kid. I was told this painful knot was stress related. Because I'm the "fight-type" (I didn't know...

WTF Scott Adams!? I get the same knot! Between my shoulder blades. An extremely painful dot slightly to the right. It usually radiates to my right arm with some numbness. A few years ago it got so bad that I couldn't get out of bed because the slightest arm and shoulder movement would trigger the worst pain I've ever had. I had to roll out of bed screaming...
