  1. cyclinglady: Thank you for your reply. I guess b12 is stored somewhere in the body (liver maybe?) and that's why the levels are still high. I suspect I didn't need those supplements in the first place. I just assumed I was deficient and overdosing on b12 is not possible so I just kept taking those pills and wasted money on them. I will give it some time...
  2. Went to the GP to get some blood work done just to check how I was doing. Turned out I was doing great with no deficiencies. But, my b12 levels was elevated. It was 986 and maximum normal level according to the test should be 650. I'm not supplementing on b12 anymore. In fact I stopped taking the pills over a month ago. I've googled and found out that...
  3. Some symptoms improved after just a couple of weeks. Acid reflux and bloating was the first symptoms to disappear. Other symptoms took longer. Diarrhea and stomach pain was on and off for a few months before it finally disappeared. Some symptoms like mouth ulcers, gum inflammations and mild to moderate sleep issues has improved, but not disappeared and they...
  4. I've noticed the increased energy too. After a day at work I still have some energy left to do laundry, go for a walk or maybe go to the shopping mall. I didn't have that before. I had just enough energy to work and then I crashed in front of the TV for the rest of the evening. And my mental energy has increased too. I'm much more patient and tolerant. Pre...
  5. Anyone struggling with gluten free pizza dough should try using gluten free tortilla as crust! It's fast, easy and really yummy! Just google tortilla pizza and you'll find tons of recipes! And for those of us who love thin-crust pizza it doesn't get any thinner than this. ??
  6. It's not about the risk of catching the flu. It's about the risk of getting serious complications from the flu. If a person with a serious lung disease catch the flu and get a respiratory infection it can be fatal. Here in Norway celiacs are not mentioned as one of the high risk groups. Even if celiacs are at a higher risk of developing certain other...
  7. I've never been able to eat avocado without getting severe stomach cramps and watery diarrhea 5-6 hours after I've eaten it. The avocado sickness is so severe I can only compare it to food poisioning.
  8. Ennis_TX: Did you notice any difference in strength and endurance after you went gluten free?
  9. Different T-cells recognize and reacts to different pathogens. The cells that react to gluten are not the same cells that reacts to viruses. If you don't have any other disease that impare your immune system, I don't see any reason why you should be more at risk than any other healthy human being. And flu shots are not very effective. Flu vaccines are manufactured...
  10. It's not because it's a new year. It's because I want to do something new now that my life has changed due to Celiac disease. I'm eating way less junk nowadays and I miss it a lot. Never been a health interested person before, but I thought I need something more to do now that I have a "new" life. And I thought that if I get more interested in my general...
  11. That Dr. Google... Don't know how many diseases he told me I had before I knew I had celiac. MS, brain tumor, ALS, bowel cancer, liver disease, HIV etc etc. But I remember in the beginning when I had my first symptoms and googled. Ended up at reddit where a guy asked about his symptoms which were similar to mine. Someone replied that he might have celiac...
  12. It comes and goes. I struggle with getting enough fiber in my diet so my stool is usually hard. Due to this I get anal sores. Im not leaking anymore, but I did in the past. I relax as much as I can when I pass stool and try to let the anus do its job by itself. It usually takes 10-15 minutes. That does the trick. I also use vaseline before I pass stool.
  13. About your anus... Both constipation and chronic diarrhea can cause sores. They might bleed, they might not bleed. Anal sores sting after bowel movements and can cause leaks. I've had those for years. Extremely hard to heal those.
  14. rt_116: Psychological: brain fog, feeling that reality is unreal/like a dream, anxiety attacks, insomnia. Neurological: painless muscle twitching, pins and needles, buzzing sensation in legs
  15. Whenever I hear someone who wants to gain weight I'm kinda tempted to say "Mirtazapine"?
  16. Sugar withdrawl. Starch breaks down into sugars when digested. With no gluten in your diet, you don't consume as much starch as before. Went through the same thing. Fatigue, nausea, headache. And I was hungry all the time and had severe sugar cravings. The headache was the worse symptom though. Then one day it was suddenly gone. You'll be alright. Just...
  17. Didn't make a career change because there are a lot of benefits working in the health care system in Norway if you have a chronic disease. I get 24 days of fully paid sick leave each year and because I have a documented chronic disease my employee doesn't have to pay anything when I get sick. The welfare administration pay. There aren't a better place to...
  18. In Europe they don't have to mention the origin of the starch if the gluten content is 20ppm or lower as most celiacs can handle that small amount of gluten. However, some celiacs (like me) can't even handle that tiny amount.
  19. We're in the same boat! When I started my gluten free diet 7 months ago I ate foods with glucose sirup, modified starch, dextrose etc and was doing fine. Symptoms started to disappear one by one and I felt I got healthier pretty quickly. Then, for some weird reason, I started to react to traces of gluten too and had to exclude a lot more foods. A regular...
  20. Gym next week or the week after! Have to wait a while because of the flu. First a major glutening, then the flu... ? I investigated a lot yesterday and downloaded tons of recipes. Found a few cold sauces both for fish and meat that sounds yummy. No flour in them. Also found a couple of really dark chocolate bars that doesn't contain glucose sirup or...
  21. All of you magnesium deficient celiacs out there, stay away from cola! Even the diet ones. I've developed quite a Pepsi Max habit after going gluten free. I'm also deficient in magnesium and have been trying to find out why. It can't be the food I eat. I eat fish, bananas and nuts everyday and I'm pretty healed. Now I know what the culprit is. Yep, Pepsi...
  22. Darth Diarrhea from planet Toiletan. I never had any brain symptoms. They came post-diagnosis when I got glutened. First time I got glutened it was sunny outside and I was sitting on the bus looking out the window feeling as I was in Miami Vice with my head wrapped in cotton.
  23. Thank God I can still eat tacos! Ennis_TX: Those gluten free burger buns you invented sounds interesting. Every burger bun I've tried so far has been so dry I can barely swallow. Cyclinglady, you're right. I am greiving. At first I was just excited to start my gluten free diet and get better and I was one of the lucky ones who got better pretty...
  24. Have you heard about the music genre vaporwave? That's how my head felt 10 days ago. Vaporwave is the soundtrack of my gluten brain fog ?
  25. I've always loved food and never had any "issues" with it. Never restricted, never thought about what's healthy or not, never been on a diet, never had a wish to lose weight. Loved going to restaurants etc. Food was a great joy in my life. Been overweight, but not obese for many years and just enjoyed food until now. It is a great sadness for me not to be...
