I think it is very complex and could be related to other health issues. I now only eat at home to avoid cross contamination and eliminated all grains. Since doing this it seems as though the fluid has stopped accumulating in my chest. That's progress! How are you feeling?

For the most part I just had one really swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck above my collar bone. It was so big that it was blocking blood flow in my jugular vein on that side. So glad you got the x-ray. Believe me, if it shows anything abnormal your doctor will call you pretty quickly. I had my first x-ray done in the morning and got a call from my doctor by the end of the day. Interesting about your friend with UC had a pleural effusion. OMG! I just read the article and am speechless! Could my health issues be caused by a thiamine deficiency? I am going to talk to my doctor and pick up a thiamine supplement in the meantime. Thank you so much for sharing this! So glad I found this thread! Oh, and I do have fluid in my chest cavity.

Glad you are going to ask to get a chest x-ray. They are such an inexpensive way to see what's going on in your chest. I think mine cost my insurance $36, and uncovered serious problems, including the fluid in my chest and a mass in my right lung. The mass has since shrunk and biopsy was negative for cancer. I find it interesting that you get pleurisy when you accidentally eat gluten. I ended up in the ER this past August with a right side pleural effusion that had almost completely collapsed my right lung along with a severely swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck. I stopped eating gluten 10 years ago but over the past 2 years I've been eating out...
