anti tTG update
GodsGal replied to Ivana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Ivana! Wow! Way to go! I'm proud of you. You have worked really hard. I, like you, am not a fan of being asked, "Are you feeling better?" I think that people mean well when they ask it. But, it often comes at a moment when I am lamenting. And, then it feels like I am not being "heard". It's also really encouraging to hear about how you... -
Hidden Gluten
GodsGal replied to BNGed8's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi BNGed8, Sorry for such a late response. I hope you are doing better. I would recommend going off dairy and oats for the time being. Also, check your toothpaste, any cosmetics, hygiene products, pet food, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and detergents. I discovered that my skin issues were a result of my celiac disease. Another thing to take... -
Lettuce can be problematic for me as well. It depends on what type of lettuce it is. Iceberg lettuce causes TERRIBLE gas and bloating. The last time I ate an iceberg lettuce salad, all I could do was lay on the couch for hours and moan. I can eat romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, and spinach. But iceberg lettuce, no way! I mentioned it...

Nasal spray for decongestion

I use Nasacort 24 hr. I tried Flonase...but its scent actually triggered my allergies. I was told by a medical professional that Afrin can work short term. -
New Celiac
GodsGal replied to SmallTownCeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi SmallTownCeliac! Right now it probably feels like you are fighting an uphill battle. It is hard, and I get discouraged, too. I know that small towns/rural areas may not have as many resources. And, celiac disease may not be as well known. Has that been your experience? Do you know other people who have celiac disease in your area? Are there any support... -
Diagnosed only 3 days ago with coeliac disease :-( Gliodan antibodies high and duodenal biopsies showed ‘subtotal villous atrophy’. Have done abrupt withdrawal from gluten and I honestly feel worse now off gluten than I did on it :-(
GodsGal replied to Ailish's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I personally don't, but I know some that will eat a bit from time to time. -

Is that what DiGiorno is using in it's gluten free crust? -
Disaster Recovery with Celiac
GodsGal replied to ButWhatCanIEat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi ButWhatCanIEat, I am glad to hear that you are ok. Hurricanes are no joke! I was just thinking about it the other day. It would be hard to find something to eat in your situation! Thanks for the advice. -
How long does gluten take to leave your system?
GodsGal replied to wildwitchnz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten free Oreos are out in my area. Unfortunately, they contain oat flour. So I can't eat them. 😟 -
It might feel like I opened the fire hose on you there with all those questions. I hope it wasn't too overwhelming! If you go to the forums page on this site, there is a whole section on DH. https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/26-dermatitis-herpetiformis/ I hope this helps!
-
Hi! It could very well be gluten related. I am not a medical professional. Has she been tested for dermatitis herpetiformis (DH)? I have not been diagnosed with it, but I suspect that I have a form of DH. I break out in an itchy rash on the back of my hands. Has she also cut out dairy and oats? Is she sharing cooking utensils, dishes, dishrags, dishtowels...

Question.... Newly diagnosed celiac
GodsGal replied to Aprilmon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Aprilmon, That's not a fun feeling. 😐 Have you tried increasing your protein intake? I have noticed that if I eat a sugary breakfast with little protein, then I can start to feel like I am having a sugar crash a few hours later. Also, I carry snacks with me so that if I do start to feel a little shaky, I have something safe to eat. -
Question.... Newly diagnosed celiac
GodsGal replied to Aprilmon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad to be a part of "your community!" I know that you are leaning towards eating fresh, which is good. 😊 How long have you been gluten free? I'm not a medical professional. So this is not medical advice. I have personally seen similar colors of bowel movements after eating foods with food coloring. So, it could be celiac. But it could also just be... -
Hi! First of all, I just want to say that I am sorry that you are being bullied. That's not ok. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who don't understand what it is like to have an autoimmune disease. There are kind people out there. But sometimes people will use any kind of differences to make people feel bad about themselves. It's not anything...

Celiac for 3 years
GodsGal replied to lhu7's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Ihu7! That is a good question. I am not sure that I have heard a definitive answer. Have you talked to your doctor? -
Hi Charles, I am sorry that happened to you! That's no fun. I've only been gluten free for 18 months. I understand that we become more and more sensitive to gluten as time goes on, and we tend to react more violently. I have noticed symptoms like increased tingling in my hands when I get "glutened". I think what you are experiencing is not uncommon...

Refractory Celiac?
GodsGal replied to J Morgan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi! Have you checked the non-food sources of gluten? Any lotion, cosmetics, detergent, soap, or pet food sources? Also, a lot of people react to the protein in milk (casein). A lot of lactose free and "non-dairy" products still contain casein. I hope you feel better soon! That sounds rough. Keep us posted! -

GodsGal replied to Ailish's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Ailish! I remember how overwhelmed I felt when I first started out. It does get easier. There is a lot of good advice in these replies! Have you been able to find any support groups in your area? Do you know anyone else who has celiac disease that you can talk to? Are you able to talk to a counselor? Talking to other people who have celiac and... -
Hi, I am not a medical professional. Your story reminds me of my story. In January 2020 my TTG IgA was >250 (normal range is <15). 11 months later it had dropped to 25.6. I was a bit discouraged that it had not dropped farther. But my GI specialist said that as long as it was going in the right direction, it is ok. This past June my TTG IgA was...

Loosing weight after going gluten-free
GodsGal replied to dani2323's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi! Thanks for sharing your journey! I am not a medical professional. I agree with what everyone else has said. I would keep an eye on it. But, I think that what you are experiencing is pretty typical. Make sure you are eating a balanced diet. Your main focus at this point should probably be on being gluten free. That being said, feel free... -
Question.... Newly diagnosed celiac
GodsGal replied to Aprilmon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are welcome! I'm not a medical professional. But my understanding is that the damage leads to malabsorption and leaky gut issues. The leaky gut can then lead to more food intolerances. And some of the intolerances may improve as your gut heals. You said you are feeling faintish today. Is it from feeling overwhelmed with lots of information and... -
Question.... Newly diagnosed celiac
GodsGal replied to Aprilmon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Aprilmon, Welcome! How long have you been gluten free? I am glad that you are excited about this new journey. You will have highs and lows along the way. And that's totally normal. I remember how overwhelmed I felt when I first started. I tell people it was like I was trying to get a drink of water from a high pressure water hose! Sometimes... -
Bake bread in counter top oven
GodsGal replied to MomK's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi MomK, How big is your oven? Would a 9x5 loaf pan fit inside? How high can you set the temperature? I have not personally done it before, but it seems like, in theory, it should work. Each oven is different. So, you may need to experiment a bit. If it was me, I would probably look up the make and model of the oven online. You could probably find some...
