  1. I would suggest that you follow up with your doctor about whether or not you need the biopsy before cutting gluten out of your diet.
  2. Hi JC! If you tap on the name of the person you want to private message, that should take you to their profile page. You should see a little envelope on the right side of the page. Tap on that, and then you will be able to send them a private message. 😊
  3. I have some friends who are living in Thailand. They gave me a Thai cookbook. It is fun to look at the book and see all of the things I can eat! Just have to watch the sauces! 😊
  4. Hi Jill, I have had a hard time emotionally as well. It is getting easier now. But especially the first few months, there were many tears. I found it really helpful to talk with a counselor. While going gluten free is healing for us, in many ways, going gluten free is also in incredible loss. My counselor helped me to grieve. I still have my moments...
  5. Hi Reneeblack, it's nice to meet you! I'm sorry you are having this experience. I imagine that it is very hard for you. How long have you had your diagnosis? I think that there are a lot of people who still don't understand celiac disease. And sometimes they resist information for one reason or another. My celiac disease has been more of the...
  6. Hi Danni! I am not a medical professional. So, please don't take this as medical advice. Have you been able to talk to your doctor about your concerns? I'm 1 year post celiac diagnosis. I also have some anxiety issues. It is really stressful, especially when you are first learning. Having a good counselor has helped me as well. I would suggest that...
  7. Good morning! I remember those days. I remember how emotionally hard it was for me. I felt very overwhelmed and exhausted from all of the sudden, unexpected change. I had to do a lot of grieving. I found it really helpful to talk with a therapist. I also have a few friends that have walked the path before me. And, this forum has been wonderful! So it...
  8. Hi! Welcome! Definitely keep asking for a referral. You need to see a good GI doctor. I know that eating gluten free is expensive, and being a college student, you probably have to watch out for the pocket book. However, if you are noticing symptoms after eating oats, I would highly recommend cutting oats out of the diet. When I tried reintroducing oats,...
  9. Hi! I also don't fit the typical body type for celiac disease. I was always at 100% on the growth charts. I got diagnosed at 36. Looking back, I suspect that I had traces of it in childhood. But, there's no way for me to really know. I developed a dairy intolerance about 14 yrs ago. Then about 2 yrs ago I developed upper right quadrant abdominal pain...
  10. Just out of curiosity, have you talked to your doctor? Have you ruled out any sleep disorders (like sleep apnea)?
  11. Good morning! I have not been diagnosed with DH, but sometimes I wonder. Mine looks more like an atopic or contact dermatitis when I look at the pictures. I have gone to gluten free soaps, shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, and any other liquid my skin comes in contact with (including my dish soap). My skin feels so much better!
  12. Hi! I'm glad you are feeling better! I have had this symptom from time to time. For me, it usually shows up after eating something that has irritated my gut.
  13. Thanks! This has been quite a journey! It is amazing how food is connected to every part of life. I appreciate the support.
  14. Hi! I'm definitely not a medical professional, researcher, or scientist. So, this is not intended as advice. Ultimately I believe that each person has to make these choices for themselves. I thought‪ pretty long and hard about getting vaccinated. For myself, I chose to get the vaccine. My thinking behind that decision was: 1) Most of the s...
  15. Hi! Nice to have you! I agree with everyone about following through with the doctors. And, it sounds like you are doing a good job taking precautions, especially when eating takeout. I just wanted to chime as someone who has always been on the tall side, (100%+ on all growth charts as a child). Her hunger could be related to celiac. But, at her...
  16. Hi Everyone! I have cookbooks, recipe cards, and a recipe box that I have collected over the years. I could still alter and use a lot of the recipes. Unfortunately, they are contaminated with flour. I have had the occasional baking accident from time to time that resulted in flour getting all over the place. And, these particular items are from my pre...
  17. Hi! My experience with diagnosis was a lot like yours. I was diagnosed 1 yr ago. At first I thought I was asymptomatic as well, with just a little abdominal pain that I couldn't figure out. But as I have been healing, I have realized that other things that I just thought were normal for me have started to improve. (Like that pesky little skin rash that disappeared...
  18. Hi! I noticed that you mentioned broccoli. Foods like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage don't work well for me if they are raw. Have you tried steaming it instead of frying it? Are you working with a dietitian? That helped me alot.
  19. I can't imagine how hard that was. Thanks for being a part of the group who blazed the trail for me!
  20. Some of them may not know or remember. The pandemic has limited contact with some of them. I don't think that they are trying to be disrespectful. I think that they just don't yet understand all the ins and outs of celiac. Some of them who would normally have given glutenous gifts gave other things instead. And they "rescued me" when I needed it. My parents...
  21. Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a happy new year. I just got diagnosed with celiac disease last February. So, this was my first Christmas season post diagnosis. My family often gives homemade gifts like bread, cookie mixes, soup mixes, jellies, jams, pie fillings, etc. Most of the food gifts I received, I wound up accepting the heart behind the...
  22. I totally agree. I would be a little careful about how the dietary information is presented though. Right after diagnosis, I would sometimes struggle with information overload. So, I think that having a good support system is vital.
