  1. Just a thought, but hundreds of years ago, there weren't nearly as many people with celiac disease, because there was less gluten in everything. Today's bread has so much more gluten in each and every loaf. If there was a way to go backward in the way some food is grown and processed, perhaps the amount of new diagnoses would lessen. Otherwise it seems each...
  2. I agree about how adding extra beans or other high fiber food might throw your system off. And stress does seem to be messing up a lot of people's regular routines and eating habits. For what it's worth, I've been drinking rice milk (just on cereal and in coffee) and it's been great during the pandemic. The boxed cartons have a long shelf life. Good luck...
  3. Oh, yes, I remember Time Cat, a wonderful book! I enjoy all sorts of subjects, but discovering Roller Boy was a real treat. Kids feel less weird when they read about other kids going through the same problems. In Roller Boy, celiac disease isn't made a big deal of, he just happens to have it and deals with it in a positive way. The rest of the story is full...
  4. My daughter just thoroughly enjoyed a book we came across where the main character has celiac disease. Does anyone have other books to recommend? Books that include someone with either celiac disease or severe allergies? The book she loved is supposed to be for readers 8 to 14, but I had fun reading it, too. Here's the information if you or your kids are...
  5. Last year, we found Fort Lauderdale to be pretty gluten-free friendly. Our most favorite find was a totally dedicated gluten-free restaurant called Fresh First. Their sandwiches are delicious. Instead of the usual bread type sandwich, they use homemade big soft waffles. Although the restaurant (which I think closed at 2 every day) was a long hot walk for...
  6. The 110 restaurants have only been around about five years. I think they're mainly on the east coast, but they are wonderful with their treatment of allergies. Many yummy gluten free options on the menu from flatbread pizza, to sandwiches, salads, desserts, and entrees. A manager oversees the cooking and delivery of special diet meals. All locations shut...
  7. It's crazy out there. ? I use a lot of Bob's Red Mill products and luckily grabbed a few at the start, but I worry they will run out and there'll be nothing left. Like someone else mentioned, Amazon has a few gluten-free items but they now take weeks to arrive. If someone gets really desperate, Ensure drinks are gluten free and, although too sweet, will at...
