Hello again, I am sorry to hear this is a continous struggle for you. I do hope it will get better. What helps me is also to remember that there are people worse off than me. Of course, that is not always so helpful, because there are obviously also people who are better off, and not celiacs. But when I found myself walking past bakeries in the city...

Loosing weight after going gluten-free
Ivana replied to dani2323's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hello, try to give it some more time. I was always thin (175 cm, 60 kg). When I was diagnosed with celiac last year my weight went immediately down to 57, mostly from anxiety and no apetite. I also worried that there was something else wrong with me on top of celiac, so I started eating all the time (gluten free, of course) to "prove" that I can... -
Traveling after a celiac diagnosis
Ivana replied to LovintheGFlife's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hello, I don't know what parts of the world you need to travel for work to, but a good option is to stay in a hotel with a buffet breakfast. Usually you can always find safe gluten free foods there, such as (boiled) eggs, cheese, fruit, plain yoghurts, etc. Other meals are more difficult, and if there are no dedicated gluten free restaurants/bakeries... -
Hello Tony9K, when I was diagnosed a year ago I felt very sad about my future life too. I felt "nothing would ever be the same", and I "won't be able to travel and socialise" and what not. In retrospect, I find these emotions rather exaggerated. I am socialising just fine with people over coffees or wine mostly (where I come from we have a very strong...

Thank you for your kind reply. I will look into those. Have to get a bit more proactive about things instead of resigning to the "new normal" me

Hello knitty kitty, seeing that you are knowledgeable about this: is there any vitamin combo that can help with depression/muscle tension? Something that would not be harmful to take even if I might not be deficient in (I don't think I can get my doctor to test me beyond blood and serum which was already done and fine). I tried taking solgar's b complex...

I had all sorts of things. Feeling that the soles of my feet and calves are tight, feeling like there is a plastic wrapper around my knees, feeling that there is nerve pain in my heels, and also a few nights, feeling like my muscles (thighs and calves) are burning. I think twitching comes from both the tension and nervous system in overdrive. And in general...

Hello again 🙂, I will share my twitching experience with you, which might make you feel a little better. When I was unexpectedly diagnosed, I think I was a bit shocked by the news (having already been quite anxious prior). Like you, I started sleeping only 3 hours a night (always woke up at around 3 am), my calves started twitching, and I also go...

Of course it will subside! 😎

Yes it seems so, but so hard to overcome. I did get used to it a bit and don't panic about it anymore. A year ago I had the same worries as BNGed8.

Hello, I don't think mine has to do with gluten. It started when I was very very anxious and feels like muscle tension. I have been gluten free for a year and I still have it. I feel I am still very anxious. Would be great if it was "just" gluten, but I can't imagine it going away just like that. Oh and it's gone when I completely relax.
-
Twitching is very common for anxiety and I would assume some deficiencies. I had it a lot in my calves at the peak of my anxiety. I also have a tight sore back and chest, on both sides, but a stich kind of feeling below my ribs only on the right side. I also occasionally feel that my left leg is weaker (but it is not in reality.) Once we are afraid of something...

Hello, Please don't go down the google rabbit hole. I have been there with celiac, anxiety, and fears of neuro diseases too. But it is highly unlikely that you suddenly developed any of those diseases. What kind of pain are you experiencing? Nerve, muscle, tenison? You will soon see your doctor and in the meantime there really is no reason to worry so...

I completely understand you and agree with you. This is a million dollar question that I have been thinking about for the past year. I also had years of chronic stress prior to the diagnosis, but I never had any physical symptoms. I actually always thought I was a very healthy person physically, although I was often anxious and sometimes depressed. I think...

Hello, I was also diagnosed a year ago by surprise, while checking for reasons behind anaemia. I would have never guessed that I had celiac. Before the diagnosis, anaemia was my only symptom, and shortly after I began experiencing some neurological symptoms (twitching, tension, ear pressure), as well as hair loss (maybe that was just because of the fall...

anti tTG update
Ivana replied to Ivana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Icelandgirl, thank you for such a sweet respose! It made me happy. I agree it is all quite frustrating, and on top of it, I always wonder whether I am doing enough or being cautios enough ("do I really need to eat this processed cookie, even if gluten free?") I guess we need to find a balance, as with everything else in life. I definitely feel... -
anti tTG update
Ivana replied to Ivana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you for the heart, Madmom! Yes, I was scared when I first saw how high my levels were and now I am more hopeful that I can have them under control eventually. It seems even up to 2 years is not so unusual, so I actually braced myself for much higher levels before retesting than they actually turned out to be. I hope you get encouraging news soon... -
anti tTG update
Ivana replied to Ivana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for replying, Scott! I am hoping I just need a little more time to get the levels below the positive mark. As I only retested once, and only after almost a year, I don't know what the speed of the levels falling down was. (I sure do hope they didn't reach 38 months ago, and now won't budge!) That's why I will retest soon. I still do think it is... -
Hello, I have not been on the forum in a while, but I would like to post an update about my recovery. At the time of diagnosis 11 months ago my anti tTG levels were 900. I have just retested them a few days ago and they are now 38 (the lab says over 20 is positive). My ferritin levels also rose from below referential values to 24 (4.6-204). As anaemia...

Hello Charks, the decision is ultimately up to you. I would say, however, that there is no way of knowing how long this pandemic will last. But we still have to take care of our health issues - dental work such as you described being one of them. I think if your dentists takes all the necessary precautions then there is much less risk of catching...

Thanks! I will take a look. I really want to be open and optimistic about such developments.

Thank you Scott for your thoughtful comment. I already thought about Gliadin. I noticed there is some debate about it here on the forum, but if I already plan to eat at my parents' home, it wouldn't hurt to have something that might lessen the amount of gluten due to potential cross-contamination (as long as it is not harmful in other ways, and it doesn...

How do you feel (especially those of you who (still) don't have children/family of your own, so your parents' house still feels like THE home in a way) when visiting your parents/family? For me this was one of the most upsetting things after the diagnosis. The feeling that I am not safe in my "safe haven" where I used to go to rest, regroup, feel at home...

"Maybe when you heal you can eat gluten again." Praising the food I liked but can't eat anymore in front of me. "OMG so good!" Then asking me: "You want to kill us now, don't you?" But I actually try not to mind when people say such things. I was equally ignorant about celiac before my diagnosis and would have probably been the same. And I also...

I can't do this!
Ivana replied to zentg's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You CAN do this. You will get used to it for sure. I actually don't find my diet that different from what I ate before the diagosis. It was mostly home cooked meals, and nothing I can't make in gluten free version too. So probably 95% the same. And there are also gluten free snacks that you can have when you want to feel "normal". Of course, not being able...
