  1. What cristiana said! Very glad you've finally found out and can now look forward Checks
  2. Thank you for this! Actually my GP raised the possibility of thalassemia when I was 14 and had had repeat anaemia. But in the UK I think you have to be referred to specialists like this, you can't just go on your own. But either way I was never referred so I suppose my GP must have decided it wasn't thalassemia? Hmm! I wonder if it's more likely that I had...
  3. Finally an update of sorts! That's great. Hopefully some others can offer you advice on how best to recover from the gluten challenge for now !! Apparently bone broth is very helpful for healing the gut. There are some nice chicken and beef ones on Amazon UK, they're pricey but it's just so much more convenient than making it at home if you want to try bone...
  4. I assume you're in the USA so IDK if you guys have the brand called Herbal Essences over there but here in the UK they advertise as "no gluten". And they have a really nice range of shampoos and conditioners, I recommend them if you can find them!
  5. Hi Ella. In your first post you said you're historically anaemic - me too and I think that's one of the tell-tale signs of untreated coeliac. Because your gut is damaged you absorb less iron from food. As far as endoscopy goes, I'm told it's relatively quick so it'll be over before you know it. If you've had a positive result then... well, when I went...
  6. Hi everyone, thanks so much for all your advice. One thing jumped out to me straight away which is that I never eat vitamin C with my iron! I tend to just eat the beef etc with some carbs. No veggies! That's something I'll make a change on I'll also check out those studies and articles to see if there's anything else. Thank you all again.
  7. Some of my friends use hellofresh. They seem fine with it but I think it's more of a novelty for trying new recipes for them - it seems very expensive for what you actually get. But my friends are happy with it.
  8. Yes, I did experience weight loss. I remember at the time that my symptoms peaked (complete with hair falling out and fainting) that I seemed to be able to eat anything and not gain weight. Actually what was happening was I was losing all my muscle so my body was shrinking but I wasn't actually getting into a better shape. Once I stopped all gluten I...
  9. Hi Cristiana, you're welcome. I think eczema is autoimmune yes - I had it as a child. Just another piece in the 'why did I suddenly become coeliac???' autoimmune puzzle.. I think they're all interconnected.
  10. You're welcome Checks. They've lost my blood test before so clerical error is very possible! How are you finding the gluten challenge? It sounds awful and I'm very surprised they ask you to keep doing it even once they've collected the biopsy sample.
  11. Thank you, same to you! Actually after something like a 3-month wait (between blood test and hospital apt day) I didn't go through with it. My GP told me not to start eating gluten again for the test, so when I arrived for the endoscopy the surgeon turned me away. By that time I'd been off gluten for over a year and was trying to put my health back together...
  12. Hi Checks, I'm British too and I also had an extremely long wait for endoscopy-related stuff here. Sorry I don't have any advice, just wanted to say you're not alone!
  13. Hi there! Your story sounds a lot like mine, I'm no expert but here's my two cents... I'm sure what you describe is positive antibodies, which 95% of the time indicate coeliac disease. As far as I know, that's what makes it distinct from non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, which isn't an autoimmune condition and therefore wouldn't produce antibodies (again...
  14. It's very hard! I find that even places that have gluten free options have often clearly contaminated products so those places are no-gos, and friends even with the best intentions can sometimes not know how to react. My advice would be to carry on going to your old places but eat beforehand and just order a drink when you get there. It's not quite the...
  15. Hi OP. I've read that once you have one autoimmune disease (coeliac), you're more likely to develop others, and I believe allergies are autoimmune. That's not to say you definitely have a dust mite allergy but I think it's possible to have developed one. You can get an allergy test for that from your doctor. Good luck!
  16. I have a ways to go but hopefully this may be motivational for someone out there: I had lost a LOT of muscle, despite being fairly active and eating a lot of protein. Once I stopped eating gluten I was able to build muscle back up again and reach a comfy weight for myself. Also, for anyone struggling with being gluten-free but still having positive...
  17. Hi everyone. It's been years since I was diagnosed and stopped eating gluten. The problem is I can't seem to maintain a healthy iron level. I get tested for iron deficiency over and over, they always tell me my iron is low, and they prescribe me supplements. I'm sure I don't absorb them. I've tried so many different types - the tablets, the iron...
  18. Hi everyone. Thank you so much for your replies. You’ve confirmed for me what I already thought, that I’m better off just staying gluten free and not chasing any further confirmation. ^awol, I also developed a serious nut allergy not long after accidental gluten exposure so I dread to think what might happen after a gluten challenge. Thank you for sha...
  19. Hi everyone. I’ve been off gluten for 3 years, I took myself off it after noticing that any amount of pasta (even as little as one spoonful) was basically making my heart race and then immediate exhaustion. I also noticed that I get blue under eyes when I’ve been exposed, and one day I off-handedly mentioned this to a doctor and they ran anti-ttg bloods wit...
