  1. UPDATE: It appears that the rash I've been experiencing was actually eczema, not DH. That would explain why I was having a flare-up despite being strictly gluten free.
  2. Good to know. Will search this site for the research on iodine/DH flare-ups. If you do happen to think of it please feel free to link it here ... it'd be helpful! And thank you for sharing your knowledge.
  3. Great question. I have plain version of the same brand and while I did find it seemed to trigger a response I don't recall it being as bad as when I've had vinegar. Then again, I don't know how well I've measured it ... the flare-ups tend to be on my head where I have head, so unless I have a shaved head at the time it is difficult to judge. I do wonder...
  4. Thanks so much for your response. This is something I've considered in the past ... I used to avoid iodine like the plague. Then I realized I should have some in my diet. Lately I've been having more iodine in my diet, even going so far as to use iodized salt each day. This could very well be the trigger. Bummer. I'd hate to cut iodine out entirely...
  5. Hi, I've been dealing with some painful skin bumps and I'm not having success finding info elsewhere about it. Hoping it makes sense to members of this community. Background: I've been strictly gluten free for 5 years. I followed the Fasano diet, and now I only eat foods that I prepare myself. Rarely touch processed foods, but when I do they...
  6. I've emailed Cetaphil, but haven't yet received a response. Can anyone tell by looking at these ingredients if it has any gluten among the ingredients (or risk of cross-contamination)? The ingredients are: ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: AVOBENZONE 3%, OCTOCRYLENE 10% INACTIVE INGREDIENTS: PURIFIED WATER, DIISOPROPYLADIPATE, CYCLOMETHICONE,GLYCERYL STEARATE...
  7. I'd like to buy a bag of frozen corn, but fear the risk of cross-contamination. Anybody have some insight on the risk, what to look for, or brands that are considered safe? I'm currently in Canada.
  8. My naturopath is treating me for leaky gut and histamine intolerance (on top of my celiac, which is under control). She recommended eating olives before meals, and a "test" where I time the transit time of my bowels by eating sesame seeds. I don't eat either of these. I know they're gluten free, but whenever I introduce something to my diet my mind turns...
  9. I'm always on the hunt for a good gluten-free sunscreen that I can wear on my face. I've come across one that looks like it could fit the bill, but I'm not quite clear if these ingredients are all gluten-free. Could with more expertise/experience than me mind taking a look at the ingredients below and let me know if they appear to be safe? Much appreciated...
  10. I plan on reintroducing iodized salt (I need the iodine) and rice back into my diet. I have DH and am sensitive to small amounts of gluten from cross-contamination. I stopped consuming both roughly a year ago, as I struggled to get my symptoms under control. I replaced iodized salt with pink salt, and rice with other staples. In my mind I associated...
  11. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I figure I'll try it for a month or two. The study notes that the glycoalkaloids are concentrated when frying, so while they're present in potatoes at all times, they're particularly bad when fried. I've also read that they're largely in the skin of the potato. I'll cut out all nightshades for my one or two month experiment...
  12. I've been strictly gluten free for a long time. I've resolved the issues related to DH. But I still have a number of symptoms that line-up with leaky gut. For example, if I have dairy or processed foods that are certified gluten free I break out. For the longest time I suspected this was due to cross-contamination or something similar, but at this point I...
  13. From additional reading and diet adjustment I suspect that I'm dealing with some lingering leaky gut/intestinal permeability issues. I've done as much reading as I can on the subject but it seems difficult to sort out the good information from the quacks when it comes to leaky gut/intestinal permeability. I've read conflicting opinions regarding...
  14. I think part of my problem is I tend to have a paltry breakfast. These days I usually have a few boiled eggs, which doesn't exactly make me feel full or energetic. I used to eat oatmeal each morning and that was a bit more filling, but despite it being certified gluten free it seemed to make me ill. It seems from this board that I'm not the only one...
  15. Hi Scott, thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, I think I might have worded things a bit poorly in my original post. The bumps on my head that I'm discussing have been an issue for many years -- they definitely predate resolving the DH. For a while I thought resolving the DH might resolve this, but that clearly isn't the case. So what I was trying to say...
  16. I suspect part of it is lowish energy from not consuming enough calories - my diet is still a little wimpy as I try to figure out what I can add. I can do some light strength exercises - I'll do some chinups/pullups each day - and more recently I've added some light cardio. In that respect I can do some stuff, but without the proper nutrition I don't see...
  17. I've had my DH under control for a few months, after committing to a strict diet that includes no pre-packaged foods (even if they're certified gluten free). According to a scope, my villi look healthy. I'm feeling much better, and seem to be recovering, with a focus on eating well, getting back to exercising regularly, and getting healthy probiotics (supplements...
  18. You mention you're not able to have coconut milk anymore. Does this have anything to do with celiac? (Not trying to pry...just curious as I'm seriously considering incorporating some of this into my own diet.)
  19. Is coconut milk ever cross-contaminated? I find myself eyeing it at the grocery store but none of the brands have any gluten free certification and I can't seem to find any info about them online.
  20. I was diagnosed in my late 30s, and it took a while for me to sort things out. I've been feeling much better the past two years, and have gotten my persistent DH under control in the past half year. So, that part is great. However, I still lack energy. I used to be active, but even if I force myself to exercise these days I'm easily exhausted. I feel...
