Poor you. You are having such a wretched time. I went through something similar. I too had terrible stomach problems and took masses of antacids. I didn't realise that they would stop me absorbing B12 and I became very deficient. Read about B12 deficiences here https://ada.com/conditions/vitamin-b12-deficiency/#faqs Symptoms include intestinal complaints...

After 18 months still pregnant-looking
charks replied to chocoholic's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The funny thing is I put up with my bloating stomach for over 40 years and never once thought that there was anything wrong with me. I thought people with flat stomachs just had 6 packs. It was such a relief to find out it was caused by gluten and that it vanished once I went gluten free. I took advice from this forum and also went dairy free, processed food...- 20 replies

After 18 months still pregnant-looking
charks replied to chocoholic's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi there After thinking more about the subject I realized that I also get some bloating when I eat something with sugar it. So I experimented on myself. Not good for my blood sugar but hey it's only the once. And the result is - yes, I get bloated when I eat sugar. And flatulance as well. I don't eat sugar because I'm a diabetic (in remission) and because...- 20 replies

After 18 months still pregnant-looking
charks replied to chocoholic's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi there I too looked six months pregnant. But within 3 days of giving up gluten I had a flat stomach. It was like a miracle. But I wasn't totally gluten free, I was still eating small amounts of gluten in processed foods and still getting neurological problems. Ever since I can remember having a problem with a bloated stomach. I thought I had...- 20 replies

Hi Knitty Kitty Following your advice I already take B1. And a B complex. Back in April when I had my seizure - which led to discovery of celiac - I was in terrible way. I couldn't walk, think or talk properly. I had no strength in my legs or arms and had no bladder control. Within 3 days of taking B12 I started being able to walk again and things...

Thanks Scott. I am very vigilant about my diet. I haven't eaten outside my home since last April and everything I eat is 100% gluten free - I am paranoid about it. No gluten is allowed in my house. But my weight has been slowly going down in the last few weeks. The only thing that has changed recently is the fact I have stopped taking B12 supplements...

I have been on a really strict gluten and diary free diet since May. I cook all my own food, don’t eat processed foods and never eat out. In general I feel very healthy but if I don’t eat a high fat/protein diet I will lose weight. My BM are still very random, sometimes twice sometimes once a week. And they are pale and very stinky ( I know this is due to ...

Although I'm suffering I'm actually quite glad I'm having side effects. I've been reading articles suggesting that the vaccine might not be effective in autoimmune people.

I’ve just had the Pfizer vaccine. I was really worried about it. My body has always had a really strong immune response. Apparently this is normal for a celiac, we have a stronger immune systems. Whenever I get an insect bite I get a hard, red patches at least 3 inches across that are unbearably itchy and take over a week to heal. Sometimes the bites have a...

Before I had my seizure in April- which I believe tipped me over into full blown celiac disease - my symptoms were mainly neurological. I did have a big bloated stomach and terrible indigestion but no problems with BM. That changed after the seizure. It was over 3 weeks until I had another BM. But I had been experiencing neurological problems before the seizure...

I feel like I’m going mad!
charks replied to alexlouise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I totally agree with you trents. I had a relative die because she refused to take drugs. You can take it too far. But we all agree on this forum that most doctors are useless at diagnosing celiac disease. -
I feel like I’m going mad!
charks replied to alexlouise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think this is a classical case of treating the symptom not cause. I remember reading somewhere that antidepressants only work where the patient is clinically depressed and it is the depression that is causing the IBS. Personally I would do anything to avoid antidepressants. They have so many side effects and are very addictive ( I have addictive personality... -

charks replied to alexlouise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I may be stupid but I don't understand why someone with IBS should go on antidepressants. There was a very good show on UK tv this week postulating that depression can be cured by diet/ probiotics. I was very depressed before giving up gluten. My partner said that I was like a different person. Within 2 weeks of being gluten free he was ecstatic to have... -
And And my grandfather was an alcoholic as well. My father never drank because he had such bad memories of his dad lying drunk in the road. He was so ashamed of him. My grandmother divorced him. At the time ( 1930 ) it was quite scandalous. There were only 1.7 divorces per 1000 marriages. I was always proud of the fact that she wouldn't bow to social...

My aphasia actually is the same as yours. I also knew what I wanted to say but couldn't form the words. I also couldn't read out aloud - I kept stumbling over words. And this happens even now when I get anxious/stressed. Normally I am very erudite but when I get an attack I can't even spell correctly. Or use my PC. If, during a conversation, someone says...

I used to drink a lot before giving up gluten. Wine. I never got drunk. I think my body saw it as a way to get food without being glutened. I hardly drink now. Just a glass of wine before my main meal in the evening. I had the same thing going on with salt. I would carry a bag of rock salt crystals ( for some reason I don't like table salt ) and eat it like...

4.8 lb in two weeks!! That's great. It sounds like you've worked out what works for you. I have an addictive personality. If food's in front of me I will eat it. If I open a jumbo packet of crisps I will eat the lot without even realizing it, it's like I'm on auto. My brother is the same. He's putting on weight and blames his wife for buying the treats...

I was never formally diagnosed because of covid 19 but I would never dare eat gluten again. I am too worried that I might develop some other type of peripheral neuropathy damage that is permanent. It just isn’t worth it. I had both physical and neurological symptoms. At times I got so bloated I couldn’t bend over without feeling that I was going to ...

After a seizure in April I found out that I was diabetic and a celiac. It's been a tough ride - see my recent post https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/154553-covid-19-and-leaky-gut/ I think it is a very good idea to have a support group as we celiac/diabetics have a a more challenging time with our diets/lifestyle. I am 'lucky' because I have type 2...

I had a fatty liver when I got diagnosed with celiac and diabetes type 2. I decided to give intermittent fasting a go and corrected it within 2 months. I found the idea of intermittent fasting a bit daunting but it was really easy. Basically the idea is to have a period of time during the day when you don't eat anything and just drink water. The rest of the...

Hi there Thanks for your advice. This forum has been a life saver. I take all advice on board and take all the recommended supplements. Whenever I have a question about my symptoms I know that I will find the answer on the forum. It may take a while but I am a speed reader so I get there eventually. I live in the UK. My experience of the...
