  1. Perhaps you should also try to eliminate oats to see if it helps. They might be contaminated or you might not be handling them well even if they are safe. I also second fruit and vegs! May I ask, is your depression a consequence of adjusting to the diagnosis and/or diet? It hasn't been there before? Could be that the thought of having a condition...
  2. Actually, I checked and the Original article says Results: Among 47,241 patients with celiac disease, 30,080 (64%) were diagnosed since 2000. It is meant that they were diagnosed with celiac not cancer. More care should be taken in citing studies. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34033925/
  3. "After a median follow-up of 11.5 years, the incidence of cancer was 6.5 and 5.7 per 1000 person-years in celiac disease patients and controls, respectively. " I presume controls means non celiacs and here the number is not significantly smaller. People live longer and longer and chances of cancer are then also increased. But cancers are also more and...
  4. Hi, these yearly tests are probably testing antibodies and are not useless. If you have not been ingesting gluten they should be negative. Granted, only another scope can show if your villi healed but it is much less invasive to test antibodies regularly.
  5. I am sorry to hear you are going through this ordeal. I hope you will find something that works soon. I remember reading on this forum a thread by a woman whose immune system also seems to have rebelled at most food and I think only one kind of meat or something like that didn't give her trouble. She experimented constantly to find what she could it. She...
  6. I am glad you might have a diagnosis that will finally bring you on the right track with your health. I also want to add that celiac disease does not increase the risk of colon cancer or at least I am not aware of such studies. It does increase the risk of small intestine lymphoma, but that one is rare to begin with. I am pointing this out because I have...
  7. Thank you! But why is that a problem of those on gluten free diet? Do they not eat eggs, fish, liver, beef, chicken, vegetables, etc?? Or is it again people who only eat packaged gluten free food and don't get any vitamins because they don't eat fortified wheat products... I must say these things really baffle me as I personally eat just as varied as while...
  8. I think the chances of that are slim, I am afraid. This is not borderline high, it's 100 and 47 (if I am reading it correctly), with positive above 15. So even 47 is considered considerably elevated.
  9. I think the results indicate celiac in both cases. As already mentioned, ttg iga is a very specific test for celiac, and with both children it's several times the upper limit.
  10. Hang on in there, dear AlohaMaMa. Once your daughter has a proper diagnosis and treatment options it will get easiser. It does seem to me that the doctors have not been doing their job at all. Testing for MS, for example, is commonly rather straight forward. I had it. MRI, if normal, that's it, no MS. If there are suspect lesions, then spine tap. If that...
  11. I have seen on this forum that for some people oats as well as cassein in dairy can trigger the same AI reaction as gluten. Perhaps you can try to eliminate these (if you haven't already) and also triple check if you are not still consuming gluten. Do you have a gluten free household? Are you eating out?
  12. Don't mention it! Actually, where I am from we are not assigned a dietitian. I read up on post diagnosis tests on my own and asked my GP for referrals for a bone scan, ttg iga, thyroid, and vitamins :). She is great and she obliged to all. Also, she set me up for regular checkups with a gastro, but I don't see much point going, as in my 2 visits so far, and...
  13. Oh yes, I am not sure how much sense it makes to have all these supplements in tablet form at the beginning of healing, ie. when the villi is not absorbing. But I did take iron (forgot to mention) for a month and what I already mentioned.
  14. Yes I had it, it revealed osteopoenia. I am 41. Another shock! But I read when the cause is celiac, and only then, it can be reversed. My doctor prescribed some calcium citrate for a month or so, not much longer as I still consume quite a lot of dairy. I also take d3 oil (only on days when I get zero sunshine and in the summer not an all). At diagnosis my...
  15. I can totally relate. I was around 20 when my blood test showed anemia for the first time. Every time doctors would tell me to eat more meat or take supplements for a month. Granted, I didn't visit doctors often in my 20ies, more like every few years for a general blood test so I never went back to retest after a recommended course of iron supplements. I...
  16. I think this is Marsh 3c, as I got pretty similar description and it said Marsh 3c. I also only had anemia, no other sympotms, but I think I had celiac for many years. Don't let the 3c discourage you. My antibodies normalised within a year, my iron also. I will have another endoscopy some time in the near future, but I think my villi are recovering. As for...
  17. What an ordeal it must be for you and your daughter. May I just ask how often does she have these flareups and how long do they last? Are her legs completely fine in between? And before going gluten free were they constantly painful or where there normal and flareup times too? Did gluten free diet definitely help? Was she tested since to check if her celiac...
  18. And very true that junk food is becoming the norm everywhere. It is just that I personally never thought about the isuse of processed food and fortification or never really heardy about it till I came to this forum. I was raised in a rather poor country where home cooking was the norm and we had very little processed food, save for pasta and bread at our...
  19. Interesting read, thank you. I had no idea about this. It seems the EU is plagued, as it often is, by inability to reach a consensus among all the member states.
  20. Also, please see what works for your son. Everyone is different, so you don't need to automatically drop all the gluten free food, nightshades, corn, etc. Plenty of celiacs are thriving with that included in their diet too. As always key is in moderation and variety. But you will see what works and what doesnt. I don't know if it is an American thing to have...
  21. Hello, on this and other forums I saw tTg of even 2000 reported for kids. The good news is that these numbers go down really quickly for them. I have seen it reported that they normalised within months even.
