Thanks for your reply. I have never been diagnosed with celiac disease, I was to eager to try gluten-free two years ago and didn`t wait for my doctor`s opinion. I thought the symptoms I had back then indicated that there was something that my body reacted to, and I wanted to try gluten-free to see if there were any improvements. There were. However,...

Hello, I went gluten-free for a year, and started eating gluten again one year ago. The reason for this was that my doctor said that the blood works didn`t show any sign of celiac disease (after one year of gluten-free). I generally feel fine, but I get more gas and loose stools after I started eating gluten again. Does this indicate celiac disease?

As someone here mentioned, liver is a good source of nutrition, especially if one is low in iron. I tried to eat liver pate for breakfast and noticed much higher enegy levels throughout the day. Has anyone experienced this, and could this be a symptom that something were off nutrion wise, before eating liver? Another question: Has anyone taken vitamine...

Gluten challenge
penguin11 replied to penguin11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Great answer. Thanks! The road on GFD has been bumpy, but most of the symptoms have disappeard. As mentioned, I get heartburn when I don`t take fish oil, and I also have some fatigue. Maybe this indicates that there still is some inflamation and maybe also issues with nutrient absorption. Anyway, I will take some blood tests and hopefully find out! -
My doctor said I didn`t need to eat gluten before doing a blood test for celiac, only if a biopsy was needed if the results from the blood test indicated it was relevant. Can any useful conclusions be drawn from the blood test if I haven`t eaten gluten in one year (gene test, etc.)? Another question: I experience a reduction in heartburn when taking...

Hello, Did anyone have anemia before getting getting diagnosed with celiac disease? Is so, how did it feel, and how long did it go before you saw an improvement after going gluten-free?

Self-diagnosis and recovery time
penguin11 replied to penguin11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks Scott! It has been around a year since I went gluten-free, and most of the stomach pain and heartburn issues resolved more or less in 6 months. Nowadays I am almost pain free, but I have read many recovery stories where the pain subsides in days/weeks, so I was wondering how normal it was to go many months before the pain went away. -
Insurance is not so big issue where I live. I will go and draw some blood, and try to find some indications of what is going on.

Thanks, will definitely eat more liver after hearing this.

I have not had any blood work done in years. I went gluten-free one year ago because my body was shutting down, and I was feeling worse and worse the last half part of my life. I did not get any diagnosis before I went gluten-free, which in hindsight I wish I would have tried to get. Now I live as if I have celiac disease, since 90% of my problems went away...

I still can feel somewhat exhausted after/in stressful situations, but not so much as before. This is also the only symptom that still remain after going gluten-free. Maybe I am borderline anemic as you menioned. Thanks for the tip on B12. I don`t eat dairy, so I may have to eat more meat.

I have been gluten-free for almost a year now, and feel much better. However, I have not been diagnosed, and my physician recommends this. It would be nice to know for sure if celiac disease was the source of many issues that bugged me for 2/3 of my life. Also, it would be nice to know how careful I have to be regarding cc etc. Are there any other reasons...

Prior to going gluten-free I had episodes where I had trouble breathing, got very hungry, dizziness, and was barely able to stand up straight. I think this could be related to anemia, since it is gone after going gluten-free. However, last week I ate vegan food every meal, and at the end of the week, the anemia feeling came back. Could this be related to...

Hello, Friends and family have recently remarked that I look much more tan than I usual do in the summer. I went gluten-free last November primarily to see if gluten had any connection to what I thought was iron deficiency. I feel less dizzy and the heavy out of body feeling I had before November. But can gluten also affect the skin, and in this case...

Some questions
penguin11 replied to penguin11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you Scott! I have many questions to going gluten free, because so many issues have been resolved since going gluten-free, and the simple solution of going gluten-free just seems to good to be true. I am very exited to see if some cognitive issues will lessen as well, and I have already seen good results. My teachers have said that I had potential, and... -
Hello, I have some scientific question I hope you can answer. 1. What happens in the stomach for the pain to subside after one goes gluten-free? 2. Why do stools go from 90% loose to 90% compact after going gluten-free? 3. Does anyone have an uplifting story about what happened after the brain fog went away? Better grades etc.? ...

Heartburn
penguin11 replied to penguin11's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have noticed that dairy and gluten-free bread and crispbread does not seem to go well with my body since going gluten-free last November, so I have quit those products out, as well as all products containing gluten. I am currently eating two dinners per day, which is all I eat during the day. I want to gain weight, so that hopefully my sunken cheeks, which... -
Heartburn
penguin11 replied to penguin11's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you both for sharing valuable advices. I have one more symptom of celiac disease, which is trouble gaining weight. In the months following the gluten-free diet, I noticed a small weight gain (1-2 kg), but once I go for a run it seems to fall right off. Anyone had trouble gaining weight, and if so, how long did it take before you noticed a substantial... -
Hello, I have had symptoms of celiac disease for years, and went gluten-free last November. Since then, almost all my symptoms are gone, except heartburn, which together with stomach pain, was the deciding reason why I went gluten-free. My stomach pain is reduced to a minimum, and as I mentioned a host of other symptoms are gone, for instance trouble...

Dear all The past 2-3 months since quitting wheat, I have noticed a decrease in major and minor symptoms of Celiac disease (I have not tested). Today I noticed something: Usually when I am riding my mountain bike, my eyes fill with water until my sight gets blurry, tears running endlessly, and they stay like that until I am back home. Today they...

Hi After going off gluten a couple of months ago I have noticed improvements in several areas. However, there has been a notable reduction in toilet paper use. Before: 100-120 papers after 10 visits. Currently: 10 papers after 10 visits, and I do not think there will be any reduction below that. I experience a notable shift in energy levels as well,...
