  1. With approval from my GI doc I tapered off my PPI this past summer using a liquid compounded form of lansoprazole which allowed me to make small cuts over a 2 month period to get off and thus prevented acid rebound so common amongst those who try to get off PPIs by other means. The first 5 months I did fine, but then the increase in acid started coming back...
  2. Ok I got two blood test results back. TTG IGA 0.4u/ml and IGA 327 u/dL. Both noted as “normal” So I have mild villi blunting with normal blood tests thus far. I understand these test results indicate that I might, I might not have celiac. Villi blunting apparently can be caused by PPIs which I was on for 17 years or can be caused by SIBO which I was dia...
  3. I will consider that. But dang, I just bought a supply of certified gluten free oatmeal. I have to say though this is all very frustrating trying to figure out what’s what that bothering me, each of us as we are all different. Either way I really appreciate everyone’s advice and suggestions here and will take them all to heart. Wishing everyone good health.
  4. Raspberry firecracker you said food intolerance testing can mean all sorts of things. That’s my take on it thus far, that it doesn’t offer any clear definitive answers. Some argue it’s a waste of time and money. So I’m ambivalent about it to say the least. It’s being promoted by my naturopath and I will admit I have limited confidence in naturopathic medicine ...
  5. I switched to Bobs Red Mills Gluten Free oatmeal to see if that helps. Also wondering if I go gluten free and stay that way for a while and then do a gluten challenge how long would it take to exhibit symptoms and then reverse them by going back to gluten free diet. In other words would it be short term pain to determine if I’m truly gluten sensitive. ...
  6. Thanks Scott. I will give the food sensitivity test more consideration and research. Unfortunately it’s $200 and Medicare won’t pay for it. My PCP is not nuts about it. He thinks it will invariably come back saying I’m sensitive to a lot of foods that are healthy and limit me even more than the low FODMAP diet I’m on. I’ve already lost 32 pounds and eatin...
  7. Ok go results back on IGA test saying 327mg/dL. This is a normal level. However the report said there was a glitch in that the sample was partially centrifuged upon arrival to the lab and had to be re-centrifuged. To interpret the results with caution. So should I ask that it be repeated at no charge?? Other question. The lab order said to do a test...
  8. I will check out the book. But doesn’t the paleo diet contradict the low FODMAP diet that I’m currently on?? I’ve been attempting gluten free as well but recently learned I was not successful because I’ve been eating oatmeal that was not designated as “gluten free”. My docs are not 100% sure yet if I’m celiac. My primary symptom is nausea which they think is...
  9. Oh my, yet another possible piece to the puzzle. How does one ever sort all this out. There are many folks who eat whatever they want with no repercussions while those of us in this collective boat are wandering through a maze trying to figure out what’s making us feel so bad. It’s quite infuriating. But thanks for the info and the suggested info to review. I ...
  10. I heard back from my GI doc. He wants me to go ahead and get the blood test as well claiming I’ve likely had gluten sneaking into my diet more than just the oatmeal I’ve been eating.
  11. I was diagnosed with SIBO this past summer and went through 2 rounds of antibiotics and felt much better but it didn’t last despite being on a low FODMAP diet ever since. I’m bring evaluated for celiac now. Nothing conclusive yet. Still having sxs. In an effort to figure out what’s going with me my naturopath wants me to have tests for food sensitivities. Meas...
  12. Wel I’m going to go ahead and get the blood test in hopes of unfortunatelynot being on a strict gluten free diet when I thought I was will yield accurate results. I’m not willing to go thru another possible 12 weeks of misery for one lousy blood test. I’ll go gluten free and hopefully after feeling well I can reconsider or just stay gluten free. Whatever all i...
  13. It’s hard to tell. I don’t notice any additional sxs from the oatmeal. Actually it tends to settle my stomach. I don’t know if all the sxs I have been having lately are from SIBO, reflux or gluten. It seems they are all interrelated and it’s hard to tell what’s causing what. This possible celiac is a new twist for me. At this point I don’t know for su...
  14. I have just learned that the oatmeal that I have been eating while supposedly on a gluten free diet the past 5 months is not gluten free. I eat it at least every other day and sometimes 2x per day. So given that my GI doctor wants me to have a TTG IGA blood test to compare with my biopsy results would this level of gluten ingestion be enough to create enough...
  15. Ive been on a low FODMAP and gluten free diet since I was diagnosed with SIBO this past summer. As part of my diet I have been eating oatmeal for breakfast. Oats dont contain gluten but it has come to my attention oatmeal might possible be contaminated with gluten since it may be processed by the same equipment at Quaker that processes wheat products. I recently...
  16. Scott: I just saw the link to the discussion on "Gluten Challenge" INteresting that my GI doc says to eat bread for 4 weeks, not 12. Ill talk over the pros/cons with my PCP and decide what to do. I have a tendency stay away from gluten now now to just try and feel better and get well and revisit this down the road Kitty: I dont know, I will ask about...
  17. If I go back on a gluten diet, even just a slice of bread once a day isn't there a chance those symptoms will come roaring back
  18. This past summer I was diagnosed with SIBO and received treatment. The SIBO got killed off but I kept having nausea and other symptoms. I also have a history of GERD. I had stopped my PPI because of the association between PPI use and SIBO. My GERD sxs started coming back along with persistent nausea. My GI doc decided to do an upper endoscopy and while doing...
