  1. I’m worried about your son too! very scary that he cannot really wake. Did you get any answers or test results yet? I pray that he is improving.
  2. I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy recently for chronic upper abdominal pain, which i thought was an ulcer, but they didn’t find one. I have been gluten-free for 3 or so (?) years now with presumed celiac. Gastroenterologist told me before procedures that he cannot (most likely) diagnose celiac because i was gluten-free for long time before seeing him. T...
  3. Interestingly, I also lived in China for 7 years. This was before knew i was celiac, so was not gluten-free at all. I was sick ALL the time with D and DH. No one ever suggested trying gluten-free to me- only IBS and anxiety. well, back here after years of gluten-free, I don’t have D, don’t have DH and don’t have anxiety. I enjoyed my time there, made...
  4. Me too! I am so happy for you that you could adapt to that very stressful situation and not react horribly while you were in the shelter. We can make all the best efforts, but Life can still throw us a curveball, and I am so glad that you were able to weather it without feeling sicker. best wishes for the hurricane recovery. Jen
  5. Hi all, I have seen many mentions of celiac folks also needing to eliminate dairy. After years of gluten-free, I am now trying it to see if it helps my general inflammation, ulcer symptoms and belly bloat. It does seem to be helping, but I feel like I am so hungry now and am not sure how to get enough protein. I am no longer a big fan of meat and don...
  6. That’s great news about no celiac. Hopefully that means you can be less stringent with some limitations. I would just love to be able to avoid gluten but not worry about cross contamination. Maybe you can get to that point? How did your body react to eating gluten for three weeks? how much did you eat? i have to make the same decision for my procedures i...
  7. So i had a first meeting with a new gastro today who said a couple things that contradict all I have read before. What do you think about these statements? 1) He said that if someone responds quickly to gluten-free diet, the “it can’t be celiac. Celiac takes months for the villi to regrow before there would be any change.” Me: “even diarrhea? Becaus...
  8. I had my appt this morning. My doctor was (friendly and patient at least) , but also not encouraging me to go back on gluten for the endoscopy because he said he can’t be sure how long it would take for the damage to become clear after having been gluten-free for so long. He said the endoscopy is not the diagnostic absolute for celiac ‘that is used to be....
  9. I very very rarely eat in restaurants. If I do, it is steak and potatoes. I cook most of my foods (no gluten-free frozen pizza, etc) I do not eat much factory made gluten-free food except sometimes potato chips and chex cereal, yogurts, peanut butter and nestle chocolate chips to make homemade cookies. Otherwise it is meat, vegetables, fruit and cheese. ...
  10. Remember, you can choose to eat gluten (despite the rude scheduling lady’s non-helpfulness) on your own. In your case, i think i would. It seems a waste to go through that procedure anyway but not get a definitive answer. also, if the dr is as much of a clueless jerk as the receptionist, you could change Gastroenterologists before you endure the expense a...
  11. Hi all, My gastro appt just got moved up a couple months due to a last minute cancellation. Now i feel unprepared. Help? I saw a gastro a couple years ago who listened to all my symptoms and told me to consider myself celiac and no real need to go through the endoscopy because “you have celiac”. This was a relief at the time but questionable adv...
  12. Did you ever get any clarification about your ulcer and especially the cause? i have what my doctor believes is Duodenal ulcer. I also tested negative for h pylori and have no history of NSAIDS. Dr did prescribe Famotidine (prescription strength ‘pepcid’) which i took for three weeks. It did help the pain and excessive bloating, but from day 1 on...
  13. Sounds like a hormonal issue. Does Beyond Meat have soy? I don’t have any research handy, but in researching hormonal issues through the years, I read many times to avoid soy.
  14. I think it sounds like DH too. Also, the tingling feeling before eruption sounds like shingles. Are they all on one side of the body/ spine. Shingles usually is on one side. I have had both DH and shingles. In my experience, my shingles (several reoccurrences over the years) feels more like random burning or pain. (Mine is mostly internal, so not a lot...
  15. Ugh! This is frustrating! i too am having DH flares after being very careful (so i thought.) i’. I’m getting discouraged again because i am back to feeling like there is nothing I can eat. I have been really enjoying greek yogurt the past few months, but yes, my DH is threatening me and my scalp is crazy itchy and flakey. Maybe the yogurt? Then i r...
