  1. RMJ. It is true that everyone who carries some version of the celiac gene does not get the disease, but everyone who has celiacs does have one or more of the gene's for it, without exception. Lindquist is from Sweden, and celiacs disease is very prevalent in the Northwest Europe region. This surprises me that such genes could survive the "survival of the...
  2. Hi again Lindquist. Glad you made the decision to go gluten free now, rather than wait until you had a blood test. Given your syptoms, and family history, I think you can safely say you have celiacs disease. Low B 12 is usually caused by poor absorbtion in the small intestines, (celiacs, chrones, surgical alteration,) or poor diet. Practicing alcoholics...
  3. Hi Lindquist. Yes celiacs can cause those deficiencies, as well as the inflamed Duodeum. My endoscopy showed "extremely inflamed Duodeum." When the pathology report came back from the biopsy, taken at the same time, it diagnosed celiac sprue. I never had blood work done, but I just know that I must be absorbing everything better on the gluten free diet...
  4. Omnivore, Love your name! Thanks for the heads up about the Canyon Bakehouse bagels. I have seen them at Walmart, and just assumed they were heavy, dense, and flavorless like other gluten free bread products. I will give them a try!
  5. It may be easier to find this article by googling "celiac disease gene reviews NCBI bookshelf."
  6. While doing some light celiac research on the internet, I chanced upon a fascinating paper, seemingly written to update healthcare professionals on the current state of knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of celiacs disease. Although this article was written for people with some scientific background, I was able to read it and gather the gist of what...
  7. Baguetteless, For God's sake, write a book!! I absolutely love your writing style. Your humor is unique and nonstop, but you still efficiently make your point. Anyone writing about something as bleak as celiacs disease, and have me rolling around on the floor laughing so hard I can't breathe, has got a real future in "disease humor!" I never...
  8. Baquetteless, First, let me thank you for your funny. refreshing writing! Sometimes, even a somber subject needs a little levity to help the rest of us lighten up a little. You put a smile on my face! My situation was opposite from yours. I had a biopsy, for other reasons, before the blood test. It came back"with features consistent...
  9. Fllstuart77, I have done some minor research on the codex wheat starch, which apparantly just got cleared to be used in gluten free products in the U.S. this must be included in the ingredient list, and listed as a possible allergen below the ingredients list. The product needs to be labeled gluten free, tested so that any gluten particles are in the...
  10. Docaz, thank you so much for developing Gliadinx! You are so right about how much a diagnosis of celiac disease can interfere with the enjoyment of a social life. For example, yesterday I attended a very large Memorial Day barbeque/potluck. There were many different dishes being served, with many different cooks creating them. I am sure the cross contamination...
  11. Ailish, welcome to this wonderful, informative website! Most everything you will ever want to know about celiac disease and the gluten free diet can be found by researching right here. I just want to say, that as a fairly new diagnosed celiac, I have had great results with the Gliadenx enzymes that are available from a vendor who advertises on this site...
  12. How hopeful! Wouldn't it be nice if eating a bagel was no longer just a fantasy. Thanks for posting this.
  13. Congratulations on your high antibodies to the covid spike protein! I am pretty sure this means you are very immune. It may mean that you have been recently reinfected at the subclinical level, and were asymptomatic, but that means the vaccine worked. Good for you for continuing to ware a mask. You can't eat gluten with a mask on!
  14. Does anyone eat products that say, "may contain traces of wheat," under the ingredient list? How about, "manufactured in a plant that also manufactures products containing wheat?" Are these different? I have eaten both on rare occaisions, with seemingly no I'll effects, but wonder if I am playing with fire.
  15. J. Morgan. Thank you so much for the update! I can tell by the tone of your post that you are quite relieved.
  16. Carolynh, thanks for the post! I too have been diagnosed with celiacs and silent reflux. I have tried all the medications, in various combinations, and not one helped a bit. My symptoms include a constant sensation of a lump in my throat, lots of phlegm, causing coughing and throat clearing, difficulty swallowing coarse dry foods, and frequent sensations...
  17. Thanks for the suggestions! All sound healthy and safe for just about everyone. The Melon salad would make a nice light desert, I am thinking.
  18. Hey, have you tried GlutenX, which is an enzyme that breaks down gluten in your stomach? I take one or two right before eating a potentially cross contaminated meal, or snack, and have never had an issue. As long as I stick to food that is gluten free, the whole world of going out to eat, and eating at friend's homes has opened up for me. As I understand...
