I went to France about five years after my diagnosis and at that time found I was reacting a lot to food that made no mention of gluten in the ingredients, and my antibodies were raised  after my visit as I had my annual review just after the trip.
I felt that food labelling wasn't as reliable as the UK, and cross contamination a more marked problem when dining out.
I expect things have moved on since 2019 when I took the trip, but I wonder if cross contamination might have some influence here?

This has been the generally accepted idea, although there isn't enough research on the topic to be certain. Staying 100% gluten-free, thus lowering inflammation, should decrease cancer risk over time. The problem is that most celiacs are unable to be 100% gluten-free, and often get contamination in their diets.

I live in France and recently assisted a colloquium on Celiac and there were two French experts (doctors) there. They said that with a good diet the risk of increased cancer is pretty much no different than non-celiac people, which was a big relief for me to hear. They were more concerned about bones and said that even that can be “normal” with a good diet and regular sports that have impact.

I read your summary here, as well as the article that you linked. I don't see any reference to the diet of the exposed or control groups. Did the subjects adhere to gluten-free diet after their celiac disease diagnosis? Were there subgroups that adhered and ones that didn't? For this study, did diet impact the odds ratio for the various conditions that were reported? (I did see where these authors referenced a different paper that apparently discussed the impact of diet on the probability of getting various cancers and other conditions, but I am asking about this study.)

Wow!  AI will save us all!  I am following this field closely, and hope that my doctors are using AI to assist in my assessment and care.  Hopefully, it won"t be long before AI can generate a true designer drug that  that can treat Celiac disease.

Actually, even normal people don’t digest gluten all the way down to amino acids.  I wasn’t clear. But normal people don’t have trouble with the gliadin peptides.

Proteins and peptides are made of amino acids, the difference is the total size. Gluten is a large protein molecule. It is partially digested into smaller pieces, which are then called peptides. One of the reasons that gluten causes trouble for those of us with celiac disease is that our body can’t digest it all the way down to the amino acids.

Sounds delicious but way to much work for this lazy old celiac!  We have a couple waterfront restaurants in our area, (Florida Gulf Coast,) which serves excellent gluten free gumbo.  It costs about $7 for a huge, meal sized bowel, so this is where we go to talk about gumbo recipes!

Thanks so much for this article.  I always swallow one or two Gliadinx right before I eat a gluten free meal at a restaurant.  I have never had a problem.

I've found only 3 gluten free beers in central Florida and have been drinking only the AB Redbridge. It's ok but I would love to try some of these other beers. I found this limited number of gluten free beer at Total Wine. We do have an ABC liquor store that I haven't gone too but will.
My question is can anyone tell where I might find any of these beers in Florida? We live in the Villages which is about 40 miles north of Orlando.

I am surprised that Peroni gluten-free beer and San Miguel gluten-free beer didn’t make the list. I drink them and have no I’ll effects although I am still very sensitive 40 years on from diagnosis

While not nationally distributed, there are 2 regional breweries that I would like to add: Rolling Mill in Ohio and Aurochs in PA. Both are gluten free start to finish and brew a full range of beers from blonde ales to dark. My favorite to order a case of is Aurochs Porter.

There have been many attempts at a "celiac pill" that did not prove viable in the latter rounds of trial testing. And we were disappointed. So I have guarded optimism.

This article is truly hopeful and promising to those of us with celiac disease.  I would love to be without stomach discomfort constantly if I eat something with gluten. Since being diagnosed with celiac, I have added yet another condition to my list.  I have FPIES to an ingredient called teff.

From Corona's website: "Corona Extra, Corona Light, Corona Familiar, and Corona Premier are made from malted barley which naturally contains gluten. The fermentation process significatively lowers its content, however, there are traces of gluten in Corona Extra, Corona Light, Corona Familiar, and Corona Premier." Open Original Shared Link
So, you are saying that this product officially meets the less than 20ppm requirement needed to use the "gluten free" label claim? Does it say "gluten free" on the carton or the bottles?

This beer states that it is gluten free. I feel that the process of removing ingredients to make it a low fat/calorie beer is why. So many other beers that state to be “gluten removed” just doesn’t taste as good as this one.

Dina, barley malt contains gluten. This beer product is not gluten free. I would caution you to assume that just because you don't detect a gluten reaction means there is no inflammation of the small bowel lining happening. It may be just a low level inflammation but inflammation none the less. People who are avoiding gluten "for other reasons" seldom have to worry about minor amounts of it in what they consume.

I was diagnosed with Celiac disease 15 years ago. I struggled initially with eating gluten free but have now become a “pro” at making sure I don’t get glutenized when eating out, (I’ve walked out of many restaurants without certainty of avoiding “cross contamination”).
So much attention to celiac disease has helped when it comes to eating gluten free, I’m thankful for that!

In the last year I was told, by a friend who isn’t celiac, just avoids gluten for other reasons. This friend told me that she and her husband were able to drink Corona Premier without any issues. I tried it, reluctantly, and found that I was able to drink as many as I wanted without issue!! For me, having a “real” beer was exciting! This may not be the case for all celiacs but for this afflicted celiac, it’s been a life changer!

I think this excerpt from the article is very important: "The 2022 report reveals a greater sense of urgency from gastroenterologists versus the 2021 report. Indeed, the number of respondents in the 2022 survey who say that their celiac patient load has increased in the past year, is up by 60% over 2021."
60% increase in celiac patient load in one year! That could bring action on several fronts.
