  1. If you're in the US, all Genexa's over the counter meds are certified gluten-free (by GFCO) and also free of soy, lactose, nuts and dairy. Zarabee's is also labeled gluten-free, and do not seem to contain dairy or soy, but you should double check the ingredients list.
  2. Beyond Celiac has some good information about cross contact & “hotspots” in the home. This is what they say about sponges & dish rags: “Can I use the same sponges and dish rags to clean gluten-free cookware as I use for cookware that has been used to make gluten-containing items?” “The short answer: No, you should have separate sponges a...
  3. Have you tried using the store finder on Canyon Bakehouse's website? You can also sign up there to get coupons, which helps a little with the price:h ttps://canyonglutenfree.com/coupons/ Publix often carries the bFree brand of breads - which makes some larger sliced breads, wraps, pita bread, panini rolls & my favorite gluten-free white...
  4. Hi Mindy, This link details all the follow-up testing you should be having: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/treatment-and-follow-up/
  5. One thing to check is the accuracy of your oven's temperature with an oven thermometer. They often need to be calibrated over time. https://www.whirlpool.com/blog/kitchen/how-to-calibrate-an-oven.html Baking by weight vs. volume produces a much more reliable result in baking. I use a digital scale and weigh ingredients by gram weight. There are...
  6. I also couldn't digest raw veg well while my gut was healing. Cooked/roasted veggies or veggies cooked in soups (or pureed soups) makes them easier to digest.
  7. I actually do eat red meat, but looking at my list I can see why it seems like I might not! Just not as appealing to me in the morning as other proteins. I do sometimes eat it as a first meal, but more often at dinner 🙂
  8. I often don't eat what are thought of as "breakfast foods" in the morning. Anything you would eat at other meals works in the morning too. Some examples I eat as my first meal of the day include: - leftovers from dinner the night before - soup or chili (top with cheese or add beans for extra protein) - salad topped or roasted veggies with a...
  9. If you are menstruating it can actually be quite difficult to get the US RDA of iron which is 18mg/day for women vs. only 8mg for men (then reverts to 8mg/day for post-menopausal women) -- and in pregnancy it is 27mg/day -- on a regular basis. More than 18mg/day would be needed of course if you are trying to replenish and build iron stores. For example, beef...
  10. The problem with frozen veg (in the US at least) is that so many brands produce frozen veg with sauces and other flavorings. It is surprising the number of frozen veggie bags I have picked up that have the potential for CC or are produced on shared lines/facility (or have gluten containing ingredients).
  11. Unfortunately, nuts in many forms can be cross contaminated or processed on shared lines. I imagine it's because there are so many trail mixes that contain nuts and also have gluten-containing ingredients? My go-to brands are Mariani, Fisher, Emerald (some at least are CGF) - I always have a bag or 2 of the snack packs with me. Wonderful Pistachios are...
  12. Hi Marianne, Reading your post a few articles I saved came to mind. This one from an integrative medicine doc: Gut Bacteria And Schizophrenia https://theceliacmd.com/2019/03/28/gut-bacteria-and-schizophrenia/ Schizophrenia and the Gut https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/balanced/201903/schizophrenia-and-the-gut Correcting...
  13. There are lots of recipes online for homemade "ensure" style meal replacement shakes. Easy to make & that way you can control the ingredients and nutrients, as well as "ensuring" 😉 that the ingredients are truly gluten-free.
  14. Gluten Free Watchdog special 2023 statement on the use of oats in the gluten-free diet January 4, 2023 "In the latter half of 2022, four labeled gluten-free oat products from three manufacturers commissioned for testing by Gluten Free Watchdog had gluten test results above 20 parts per million. Three of the four products were certified gluten-free...
  15. There are lots of potential long term risks/long term health conditions that can develop with untreated (and I would say undertreated) celiac. As an autoimmune disease, the body has identified the protein gluten as a danger, therefore triggering the body to attack itself when detected (in the case of celiac, this happens in the small intestine). This damages...
