  1. It is really time consuming to grocery shop at first, though once you figure out which brands you like and which stores carry which things, it does get easier & quicker. But you'll probably have to dedicate more time to it at first (and unfortunately it is generally more expensive). Look for the "certified gluten free" labeling and "gluten free"...
  2. Perhaps you can get her doctor to run the IgA anti-endomysial antibody test? "The EMA test has a specificity of almost 100%, making it the most specific test for celiac disease, although it is not as sensitive as the tTG-IgA test." " It is usually reserved for difficult to diagnose patients." https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening...
  3. This happened to me too. It really is a huge social loss to not be able to eat in a restaurant...I miss it so much!
  4. CeliMomi, There are companies you can order a genetic test from directly if your doctor won't order for you or if it's pricey even with insurance. My family has used https://targeted-genomics.com/ but there are several others too. At $95, because we have a high insurance deductible, this was the most cost effective way in our case. They...
  5. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. It's really hard to be in pain and to also be exhausted from nutrient deficiencies. I would recommend switching to chicken you cook at home (I'm assuming the rotisserie is store bought) to eliminate any chance of gluten contamination. Closely examine any other foods/beverages, medicines, vitamin supplements, spices...
  6. Ask your doctor's office to send you a copy of the complete lab results. You could also try contacting the lab directly for help interpreting the results. What you posted from your doc doesn't have enough info to interpret. This is a link to a sample report for the DQ2/DQ8 test from a lab in the US and how it might read. The DQ2/DQ8 genetic test is also...
  7. Hi Sam, If you haven't yet had the gene test for celiac, I would start there. You do not need to be eating gluten for the gene test. It is a very simple cheek swab, and you can order it yourself (or your doctor can order it- in that case I think it is often done via blood sample). https://targeted-genomics.com/ If you have celiac genes (which...
  8. Ha! Isn't that the truth. Nearly impossible to read that very small print sometimes!
  9. Thanks, Scott! I had been looking for other companies with CGF spices, but have never come across Spicely. They have an excellent selection - can't wait to try some of their blends! Morton & Bassett is one other company with CGF spices (their website says all their products are certified gluten free).
  10. Hi Christina, It sounds like it would be worth going though the testing process again at this stage in your life to get a clear/updated diagnosis. If your sister and other 1st degree relatives have celiac, you have a higher risk of having it (or developing it at some point in your life - people with the genes for celiac can develop it at any age). ...
  11. Hi Makky, The first test you listed - IgA - is not a celiac diagnostic test. It is run to verify that you are not IgA deficient (you're not, you are in range). For people who are IgA deficient, they use different celiac diagnostic tests, but they have to first know if you are IgA deficient or not, which is why they run this test as part of the panel...
  12. She does write about it elsewhere onher website & in her books. It is a topic I am still learning about, but apparently the issue is with Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease) that supplementing with iodine too early in the healing process - and before other nutritional deficiencies are corrected - can "add fuel to the fire" and cause more harm than...
  13. Not sure if this is true for Floradix in other countries, but in the US one of the versions of Floradix contains gluten (wheat germ extract & yeast extract). https://www.floradixusa.com/products/floradix-iron-herbs-liquid-herbal-supplement There is another version labeled "gluten free & yeast free", but double check the label and ingredients...
  14. Not sure if this is the right solution for your situation, but acacia fiber has helped me. The brand I use is Garden of Life; it is psyllium-free/gluten free/dairy free. It dissolves easily in water and doesn't gum up like psyllium (and is much more gentle). It actually helps with both constipation and diarrhea. If you try it, I would start with 1 teaspoon...
  15. Definitely find a new doctor who will take you seriously. You can also order your own bloodwork and labs for celiac panels, nutrient levels, etc (at least in the US) through companies like Ulta Lab Tests.
  16. If your pots and pans are stainless, they should be fine after a thorough scrub , but other materials such as non-stick, cast iron and stoneware can hold gluten residue.
  17. Hi Walter, It can be really tough to eliminate all sources of gluten, but in order to stop the autoimmune attack on your body, which can cause all sorts of lingering symptoms and complications (in addition to triggering other autoimmune diseases) it is really necessary and it sounds like you are working really hard to do that. Personally for any...
  18. Hi Kristi, One thing I have found with gluten-free baking is that I have the most success using recipes with weight measurements (I use grams). It makes the baking recipe much more consistent and is a very quick way to measure ingredients as well. I like King Arthur's CGF measure for measure flour best (they have a table that will tell you the...
